I downloaded the demo for NBA 2k8 (Cavs @ Spurs, two 4 minute quarters). Compared to 2k7, it has much better (more crisp) graphics, a lot better player models (Duncan looks a lot better, Manu looks life-like finally), the atmosphere is in great (Go Spurs Go chants are in, along with AT&t Center specific sounds/music). The sound is great (crowd yells "Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuce!" when he shoots a jumper). Gameplay wise, collision detection is ridiculous, as you can bump into the refs, coaches on the sidelines, and the collision animations with players are great.

For those that have xbox live, it's a very short download, as it's just 325 MBs or so.

The sad thing is it still won't be as good as Counterstrike Source. Though I am really interested to see how the shield from the preview works. Looks like a great FPS, I just hate console shooters.

I'm hoping Crysis is more than just a pretty face. That is the FPS that could truly change everything.

I played CS 1.3-1.6 for a good 5 year stretch...when I finally decided to give that up I downloaded wallhacks to see how it was like knowing they would inevitably ban me.

Back on the topic though, I've never been a huge fan of Halo but I wanna see how th graphics stack up against other FPS games. I'm more psyched about Half-Life Orange Box, GTA 4 and Turok.

I think it's a good thing. They aren't hyping shiny-ness for once and focusing on gameplay.

It's doubly a good thing for them because Crysis is going to make every other FPS on the planet look like absolute trash by comparison. Even if it blows a few GPUs doing so.

However, it's a Geforce 7900 Go. It will run Oblivion on med-high settings at a pretty damn good framerate.

I doubt Crysis will be so kind, however.

TF2 is shaping up to be bad ass - it'll probably be the only PC game I buy for awhile as I have no intention of getting a powerful enough machine for Crysis (and from what I hear, the multiplayer is lame.) Also, if you want a good multiplayer FPS, you should take a look at CoD4 - this is FUN.

Well you're right about the graphics being average, but I don't see a major difference in gameplay. Granted, I've only played half of Halo 1 and multiplayer on Halo 2, I don't see anything that draws me in. Ah well, I guess either you're into Halo or not.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEF7GmE-jc0 its somewhat hard to tell with the low res but 2k8 is shaping up nicely. This is at about 65% complete so I expect a bit of the hurky jerky to be taken out. Much deeper franchise mode with actual player roles that you can define that will impact the morale of each player and the team as a whole, these roles will also play a part in whether a player wants to sign with you or not, IE promises of a starting job or significant minutes.

The new lock down defensive control gives players like Bruce Bowen the ability to lock onto an opposing player and change the face of the game on the defensive side where you really didn't have anything like that before. A much improved post game and post defense engine look promising too.

Its also hard to tell but the crowd is much more involved this year and you can hear them chant "Go Spurs Go" and "Bruce Bruce" after he hits a three. This game has the potential to be one of the best sports games ever. Hopefully it doesn't flop like Madden did. I'm looking forward to Oct 1.

I tried it out a couple of hours ago, is play calling disabled in the demo or am I missing something.

The graphics have really improved, and I wasn't even playing it on my HD TV. But geez, how was Larry Hughes 11-11 from the field? I know it was my first time on 2k8 but damn...

idk if play calling in the real game or not...commentary isn't in the demo so maybe both will be in the full game. But the animations and graphics are sick. i haven't noticed any quacky lay-up attempts like from 2k7. so far so good.

Yes, playcalling and on-the-fly subs are in the game, just not in the demo. My guess is that they left them out to make it a really small download. I can't wait for the real version, as the damn demo is better than any other bball game out there.

Yes. Just judging by both demos, 2k8 > Live, and it's not even close. EA is all about graphics (even though players and crowd look extremely weird) and extra features (like All star weekend). 2k Sports is all about animations, presentation, and realism.
