why is my firestrike score so low??

It's heavily AMD optimized to the point the GTX 970 and the piece of R9 380x perform about the same at 1080p.

What's your regular Firestrike score? I'm not too familiar with Time Spy scores. Just right off hand your score is 18% higher than their i5-4590 + GTX 970 score, which sounds about right since the GTX 1060 is about 15% stronger than the GTX 970 and the i5-6600 is about 10% faster than the i5-4590. It's probably only listed at 42% because Time Spy is a really new test that is probably done mostly by people with really high end systems.

seem about right?
Yeah 13000 is about where your graphics score should be with a 1060 and your physics score looks right inline with what to expect from a locked i5.
Well, it appears my kids burned my almost 6 year old 560ti by running 20+ instances of mario64. Luckily I had family travelling so I had them pick me up a 1060 3gb (at the time, the 6gb was 50% more for 5% performance, and I couldn't wait for stocks to come in etc. Plus the rest of the system is kind of old, not much point in future proofing when I'll probably need to update the rest of the system sooner rather than later).
So anyway I've mostly been playing older games lately, aside from Witcher 3 / doom / new deus ex, any recommendations to give this card a workout?
Rise of the Tomb Raider is a pretty good third person shooter. Fallout 4 is awesome, though none of the DLC is worth getting. Dark Souls 3 is also worth checking out. If you haven't played Dying Light, that game is a lot of fun. For Witcher 3 both of the DLC expansions are easily worth the money, might as well just buy a game of the year edition from the start. Same with Dying Light, though with Dying Light the DLC is pretty much mandatory to tie up the main story (it's worth it though). In Witcher 3 the DLC isn't related to the main story at all.
Thanks for the recommendations I'll check em out later
Hey guys I have some old parts and I'm wondering if I added an SSD to it would it be fast enough for an htpc or just too out of date

2GB ram
Nvida gtx 550ti
would be for KODI + Netflix / amazon prime streaming

Holy . This is going to completely destroy the laptop market.
The 1070 is 100% faster than the 980 from last year. And it's cheaper.
Going to have to think about possibly buying this.
There's also a thin and light with a 1060 - still more powerful than any mobile gpu from last year and blows away any non top-tier desktop gpu from more than a year ago. For $1400. Insanity.
Nvidia knocked it out of the park this time around.
That should be fine. Might need to upgrade the ram, not sure though.
The 1070 is like 35% faster at 1080p than the 980 man, wtf are you smoking?
Whatever it is pass it this way
You're thinking desktop vs desktop.
I'm referencing laptops. I could have been more clear.
980m gets about half the performance as the 1070 in laptops this year. That's an incredible power jump while reducing costs.
I thought I wouldn't be buying another gaming laptop... Might be wrong on that front.
They still put real 980s in gaming laptops last generation though.
Almost all of them were 980m, though.
The ones that were full GTX were in the $3k range if I remember seeing them.
This is significantly more power and way cheaper, and also a much better fit for a laptop.

Threw this together today. ing sick. ~15 pound desktop with VR capability.
Probably going to wait for black friday for the prices to fall and then pull the trigger.
I don't think an i5-6500 is going to be great for VR. You're probably going to have to turn settings down in intense games to get 90 fps. My bare minimum cpu for VR would be the i5-6600k overclocked to around 4.5 GHz on a Z170 board with at least DDR4-2800. High speed RAM can actually make a real difference for minimum framerates when targeting 60 fps and even average framerates when targeting ~100 fps. Newegg usually sells unlocked i5s for $200 on Thanksgiving/BlackFriday. At least the last two years they sold the 4690k for $200 then. But you want as much cpu power as you can get for pushing 90 fps. An i5-6500 isn't going to cut it when you need 90 fps minimums.
OCZ has been really crappy the last 2-3 years on quality control. I wouldn't touch their SSDs when you can get Crucial MX300 for roughly the same price.
Also EVGA Supernova NEX psus aren't great. The EVGA Supernova B2/G2/P2/GS are the ones made by great OEMs like Super Flower and Seasonic. I forget the OEM for EVGA NEX, but they're a huge step down from Super Flower and Seasonic.
Definitely be ready to pull the trigger on Thanksgiving though. Newegg typically has some really good deals on cpus, power supplies, and motherboards on Thanksgiving. Last Thanksgiving I picked up an MSI Z97S Krait board for $85 from them, for example. They also usually have some great deals on gpus, but I doubt you'll see anything special on GTX 1070/1080 since they're still pretty new. Where you might find a ridiculous deal is on something like the R9 Fury or R9 Fury X. Probably the 980 Ti too, but I'd never buy a previous generation Nvidia gpu with how badly their driver support falls off once a new generation releases.
Heh, and just today I saw the 6600k drop to $215. I'm guessing I can probably buy this rig for ~$800 on BF. Might even go for a 1080.
The 1080 is nice but it's still only about 20% more powerful than the 1070 for 50% higher price. Better than 980 vs 970 though, where 980 cost 67% more for about 15% higher performance. Too bad we probably won't see a 1080 Ti until Vega releases next year unless Nvidia starts getting really good yields on GP102 (the chip in the Pascal an X).
$800 seems really optimistic even on Black Friday prices, especially if you're building an ITX system. I doubt you see the 1070 get any cheaper. Ballpark I'd expect something like
CPU: i5-6600k on sale ($200)
COOLER: Cryorig H7 ($25 on sale, best bang for your buck cooler on the market right now)
BOARD: Some mini ITX Z170 on sale ($110)
GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 SC ($415)
SSD: Crucial MX300 275GB (maybe $50 on sale)
HD: 2TB mechanical (maybe $60 on sale)
CASE: ITX case (maybe $40 on sale)
PSU: Some modular Seasonic or EVGA B2 550W (maybe $50 on sale)
So about $950 might be a reasonable guess for a 6600k system that can be overclocked. For a locked 6500 system I think you'd be looking in the ballpark of $850:
CPU: i5-6500 on sale ($180)
COOLER: stock cooler ($0)
BOARD: Some H110/B150/H170 mini ITX on sale ($70)
GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 SC ($415)
SSD: Crucial MX300 275GB (maybe $50 on sale)
HD: 2TB mechanical (maybe $60 on sale)
CASE: ITX case (maybe $40 on sale)
PSU: A reasonable 500W unit (maybe $35 on sale)
I would not expect 1070 prices to fall at all for Black Friday. In 2014 the GTX 970 maintained its full MSRP throughout the entire month of November. It was the year old R9 290 that got the big discounts. Considering AMD doesn't even have a 1070 compe or this time around I can't see why the GTX 1070 would go down in price even a nickel.
Looking to buy a laptop to do work on. Mulling whether I should buy with a 1070 or 980M/970M. Basically 1080p, not super heavy, doesn't burn in your lap like a poorsung phone, and battery life is decent (at least 4 hours).
Anybody with a laptop with such GPUs? All I've read from the mobile 1070 is that it burns and eats battery like crazy. Haven't bought a PC laptop in a while, do they all switch between IG and the GPU based on load now?
Thanks.
You should get a second so you can have Excel open to track your inventory while playing Witcher 3.
Good point. I was thinking of doing that in my Alpha iPhone 7plus+, but now that my iWatch is running Pokemon Go, I'm gonna have to use the phone for text messages.
I thought about buying a 23" monitor for that, but it would be kinda inconvenient on a plane... any suggestions, tbh?
