I said he had a good game...but you guys make a big deal about 8 and 9 games or 14 and 2 games....it's just for a starter those are not that great. It is typical.

ok now, Since Wottt started covering his ass in this thread just after the game finished last night, and them He started talking about Bonners career night in his 3rd NBA season, all I'm gonna say about it is:
I reather have a guy in my team who can put up about 14/8 on the daily basis tham a guy who can't even average 5/4 and only have 1 good game in ing three years, most of them points in garbage time.

    18 pts/14 rbs. that's all I have to say

no matter what you quote back, you'll still look like a re in this thread wottt.

Um...if Scola was putting up 18 and 14 on a daily basis we wouldn't be arguing about if he's good or not.

If putting up 18 and 14 once every 15 starts is your proof that he's good...then Matt Bonner must be really good because he put up 25 and 17 in only 3 starts.

3rd season? Scola is older than Bonner is. You want us to wait 3 seasons for Scola to be able to play in the NBA? Duncan will be retired. , Scola will be retired.

His basketball IQ is to high not to have made the Spurs a little better. The guy can flatout ball. Do you not think you would have a few more wins with Scola on your roster.

how is that? The SPurs have the best record in the Western Conference right now! There is nothing that is guaranteed. Scola looks like a good fit for Houston and good for him that doesn't mean he was going to be a fit for the Spurs. The same can be said about Beno!

since when does a smart, scrappy, hustle player become a bad fit?

    I said,14/8 no 18/14

14/8 will most likely be Scola's stats in the NBA next year, and for years to come.

If putting up 18 and 14 once every 15 starts is your proof that he's good...then Matt Bonner must be really good because he put up 25 and 17 in only 3 starts.
Scola had better games in international compe ion vs NBA first level players, and now He's getting there in the NBA,Bonner(in other hands)have been playing in the NBA,and never was/been or will be as good as Scola is in his roockie year.

3rd season? Scola is older than Bonner is. You want us to wait 3 seasons for Scola to be able to play in the NBA? Duncan will be retired. , Scola will be retired.

NEW YORK, March 3, 2008 – The Atlanta Hawks’ Al Horford and the Houston Rockets’ Luis Scola today were named the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played in February.
For every point scored by the players named the T-Mobile Rookie of the Month, T-Mobile will donate $20 to the New Orleans Recovery School District. This month T-Mobile will donate $3,040 on behalf of Horford and $3,040 on behalf of Scola. This philanthropic component is new to the T-Mobile Rookie Program and builds on T-Mobile’s strong appeal to the nation’s youth as the official wireless partner of the NBA. Other highlights of T-Mobile’s partnership with the NBA include the T-Mobile Rookie of the Year, T-Mobile Rookie of the Month Awards, and the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam, an All-Star compe ion between NBA rookies and second-year players. During NBA All-Star 2008, T-Mobile Huddle Up and NBA Cares will host more than 5,000 local students in the lower bowl of the arena to watch this year’s Rookie Challenge & Youth Jam.

Among rookies, Horford is ranked first in rebounds with 10.6 rpg and double-doubles with 16. He set career highs of 20 rebounds on Feb. 6, vs. Lakers, and 20 points on Feb. 29, vs. New York. In addition, Horford recorded seven double-doubles, including three straight to finish the month. He also became the first Hawk to grab 20 rebounds in a game since Alan Henderson did it on Nov. 26, 2002.

While helping lead his team to a 13-0 record for the month, Scola led all rookies in field goal percentage with .629 percent. He is ranked 15th overall in the NBA this season in field goal percentage with .530. In addition, Scola was ranked third among West rookies in scoring with 11.7 ppg and recorded a career-high five steals vs. Memphis on Feb. 29, 2008, setting the most by a Rockets player in a game this season.

Here is a recap of the month for both Horford and Scola:

    Al Horford, Atlanta Hawks
Feb. 6 vs. LA Lakers: Registered 15 points, and a career-high 20 rebounds in a 98-95 victory over the Lakers.
Feb. 13 @ Charlotte: Recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds in a 100-98 overtime loss to the Bobcats.
Feb. 25 @ San Antonio: Posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds in a 89-74 loss to the Spurs.
Feb. 29 vs. New York: Tallied a career-high 20 points, along with 11 rebounds in a 99-93 victory over the Knicks.

    Luis Scola, Houston Rockets
Feb. 7 vs. Cleveland: Tallied 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists in a 92-77 victory over the Cavaliers.
Feb. 9 vs. Atlanta: Recorded 14 points and nine rebounds in a 109-89 win against the Hawks.
Feb. 21 vs. Miami: Registered a double- double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three assists in a 112-100 victory over the Heat.
Feb. 29 vs. Memphis: Posted 15 points and five rebounds to go along with a career-high five steals in a 116-95 victory against the Grizzlies.

Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month were the Los Angeles Clipper’s Al Thornton, Philadelphia’s Thaddeus Young, Seattle’s Kevin Durant and Toronto’s Jamario Moon.

Scola got most of his points on layups. That is against DPOY Camby. Plus he got way more rebounds than Camby too.

I've never thought Camby was a true DPOY - he gets a lot of blocks cleaning up the mistakes of the other Nuggets players. He is an OK one on one defender at best.

The Nuggets are a mediocre defensive team overall IMO. Martin is not nearly the player he used to be. Iverson and Carmello aren't interested in D. I personally can't stand the Nuggets because some of their key players are ignorant fools who can't speak English in complete sentences (Yao Ming speaks better English than Allen Iverson, Kenyon Martin, and Carmello Anthony).

The Nuggets were allowing Scola to get position right at the basket with little or no resistance. Scola knocked a bunch of jumpers down where he had no defender within five feet of him for some reason. It was almost like free throw practice out there.

Scola's a good player and could have helped the Spurs. However, Scola and his agent had no desire to sit Scola behind Tim Duncan for three years (Duncan is signed for the next four or five years now). The 4 spot is the only one Scola can effectively play in the NBA. His spots on the floor are the similar to Duncan's offensively. Scola is a below average defensive player lacking quickness and long arms (Popovich does not like that).

I believe Scola would never have signed with the Spurs because he could have been a 30 year old player three years down the road (at the end of his rookie deal) who would have received limited playing time. He would not have had the opportunity to display his offensive abilities to the max in SA.

Houston offered an opportunity for a lot more PT the next three years and Scola is now a starter in Houston. Duncan (assuming good health) will still be a markedly better player than Scola when Scola's rookie contract runs out and Duncan will still be under contract in San Antonio.

SA has a couple of promising young PF's (22-23 years old) coming to the roster full time next year with Splitter and Mahimi. These two will help the Spurs at the 4 and the very possibly the 5. It was a crowded situation in SA, and Scola was allowed to leave. SA would have preferred to send Scola to the Eastern Conference (Cleveland), but that unfortunately did not work out. I personnally would have forced Scola to stay with Tau Ceramica and not allowed him into the NBA unless it was with San Antonio. Luckily for Houston, the SAS front office was nice enough to let him go for nothing.

The Rocket people acting all y about Scola in this thread should take a hard look at their own team as it sits today. There is real possibility that their best player Yao Ming (on the books for the next four or five years) is another Bill Walton with serious medical issues. Their second best player McGrady (on the books for at least a couple of more years) has a bad lower back that can go out any minute. The Rockets have a nice team right now, but without a healthy Yao in place this year, Houston has little chance to win more than one playoff series in 2008.

The really tough thing for Houston is they are committed to Yao for a long time with his new contract (4-5 years on a Max deal). Yao will not have played a full season in three years now. When stress fractures start occurring on a big person like that, he is now reaching the point where one has to wonder if he will ever be healthy for a significant period of time again.

If Yao continues to be dogged by injuries, the Rockets may be in a position of being stuck in the middle of the pack in the Western Conference without any way of getting out in the next 4-5 years. That's too bad for Yao - he does seem like a really nice guy and a hard worker.

Well, look to the bright side Rockets fans, at least Luis Scola will have the chance to pad his stats the rest of the year with Yao out.

If Scola was still with the Spurs he and Duncan would be starting together.....

Scola is MILES better than Umberto......it is not Fabricio who is winning all the awards it is Luis.

It was equal to the Barbossa trade.....but......the Spurs don't need Luis to win it all....

    They already have enough.......

As a Rockets fan, I am glad we got a few scraps from the table though.

Please show Fab Oberto a little respect and spell his name correctly. He made a number of significant plays in last years championship run.

I am not sure Scola would start alongside Duncan full time. Oberto and now Thomas will spend long stretches guarding the opponents "5". Duncan only does that in spots and key situations end game.
