The Spurs can either trade Kawhi to the Lakers or they can watch him sign there while SA gets nothing in 12 months.

If there was another deal to be made out there, it would have been done. Boston/Philly/whoever would want KL in tow so they could see his condition and start building around him. It's not happening. No bidding war. No agents from Bos/Phi players leaking demands or denials. Nothing.

My assumption is that the Spurs are giving KL the "Kobe 2007" treatment where the Lakers just strung him along until he dropped his trade demands, but that was a different situation. Kobe wanted a FO change and basically got the owner to come out of retirement and take back the reins. Kawhi wants PATFO to die.

    Spurs need to face facts.
Just like Paul George you mean?

The leverage that the Spurs have is the agency. The narrative has already changed. Kawhi’s group is almost universally seen as having botched this. Impact sports wants to sign more NBA players, and Kawhi is their test case. Even worst case for Spurs - Kawhi barely plays and walks at year end for nothing - is way worse for the agency than for us. You think anyone signs to an agency that created that much bad PR and cost their only client nearly $100M by screwing up the relationship with one of the most respected franchises in sports? They are done if that happens. Signing an extension now, or trading to some team that can extend with bird rights, is their only hope of maintaining any kind of functioning business in the NBA.

So the team that drafted Russell #2 just to dump him, drafted Randle #7 just to let him walk for free because they didn’t view him as all that special is really going all-in on their draft prowess and player development on Ingram/Ball/Kuz. What could go wrong there with their stellar history???

Also, there is such a risk they are running if they really want Kawhi/Bron. Imagine if Bron gets badly injured - is Kawhi or anyone going there? Sure that can happen anytime, but you pair the superstars now and risk it happening on your watch, not someone else’s. What if Kawhi gets injured and now you are relying on some other stars to come who might not even make it “truly” to free agency?
What’s worse is the Lakers have had so many chances to draft impact players with high picks. They whiffed on Porzingis and Donovan Mitc . They do relatively well at the tail-end of the draft (Kuzma, Hart, Bonga, Wagner, Newman, Zubac), but they’ve more or less ed up their high picks. Their last chance at something great from all their years of horribleness is Brandon Ingram and it will be absolutely laughable if they gave him up for Kawhi. Going to be my hottest take but if Popovich gets Ingram that’ll be fantastic. He won’t get anywhere near Kevin Durant but a guy with a developing scoring ability and a condor’s wingspan will look great in silver and black.

Lakerfans everywhere trying to act like they're cool with wasting an entire year of the tail end of Lebrons prime
I kind of like LeBron to Lakers will make for entertainment because Laker fans already hate him the ones that are die hard Kobe fanatics lol.

They will mock him forever if he does not bring the Lakers a championship and call him a failure.

LeBron is just there to live the LA lifestyle so if fans feel used it's the truth basically.

They say that now but watch LA be a 500 team and/or LaVar go nuts when Rondo starts over Lonzo and see what happens. Kawhi is being very stupid - all he has to do is help is value out some and SA will move him.

Talk, say you will commit to just 2-3 teams so LA knows you are serious and make sure everyone knows you are healthy somehow.

Play at the Olympic camp, show videos, play in Drew League. But he can’t really do that because I think this entire ploy was because he didn’t want to risk getting injured while not having another contract

    Sh*T!!

doubtful tbh...kawhi will just find a doctor to say he's not cleared and sit out
Then everybody will know for certain he's made. Besides it doesn't make sense for him. Losing two years of your prime doesn't seem like a good idea, also he would lose a whole lot of money.

Last season was their best shot at a ring; I think this is gonna end ugly for Houston. Melo and MCW ..
MCW on the Rockets? What the for? So they can miss 27 threes in a row next season too?

While the Spursfans think that they'll bring Kawhi into camp on a leash and he'll sit & roll over like a good dog? Please. If dude sat out the last half of the season because he was pissed, he's not coming back to be a good boy.

Unless of course you fire PATFO, give him the Supermax immediately and make Unc the GM.

Nice of the Lakers to want to help the Spurs by giving them something instead of leaving the Spurs nothing in 12 months. Aside from the Lakers’ patented generosity, what reason would there be to trade for Leonard if he eventually ends up there next year? Why even offer young assets if the Lakers can get him next year? Please, we’re dying to hear how benevolent the Lakers front office is.

I'm telling you all: Let this go into the season.
Watch the Lakers lose games the media thinks they shouldn't have lost.
Walton will be brought into question.
Lebron will be asked 8 times a day about it.

    Watch what happens.

Kawhi comes in and actually plays, things change.
Kawhi comes in and holds out... Talk about cutting off someone's nose to spite their face.
    I relish it.

    NO TRADE!!

Trying to act tough when you are actually ting your pants of not getting what it seemed like a forgone conclusion not too long ago.

I guess the reports that indicate that Kawhi now prefers Clippers to Lakers don't mean anything to you, right? What about the report that he would sign with the Sixers if he gets traded there?

Kawhi to the Lakers on free agency of next season is veeeeeery far from a sure thing. If I were you I would offer the farm to see if I can lock Kawhi now. Lots of things can happen in a year. Just ask Paul George.

Better to get him now than a year from now - a lot of stuff can happen. Injury, insanity (see: George, Paul), baby mama drama, bad drug test, etc.

Of course, neither LeBron nor Kawhi want the Lakers to be too generous - they both like Lonzo, Kuzma, Ingram, Hart, etc., so we can only give up one of them . . .

    1. No one likes Lonzo. The only way anyone trades for him is if his father stays in LA.
    2. So there’s a reason to flip a deal. If the Lakers had that much faith in their young players it doesn’t make sense to deal for Leonard this year. The Spurs aren’t giving up a Finals MVP and a 2x DPOY for players who will be mediocre at best. There’s no deal now, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t one later on.
    3. It’s not insane for George to stay in OKC. Only a homer would think that. The Lakers have accomplished nothing in the last five years, even with high draft picks.

Regardless, the Lakers have allegedly moved on. If and when they strike a deal, all of this is just bluffing on the Lakers end. What’s fair to both fan bases are relatively and largely different concepts, but if the Spurs’ front office doesn’t think it’s good enough then it probably isn’t. I won’t take a Laker fan’s word for it especially with the bias and that tire fire of a roster the rest of them keep defending.
