More importantly she has very long legs for her body, which makes her appear very elegant during her routines (apparently those long legs also make it more difficult for her to execute certain elements). A former Russian gymnast, Chorkina, was also described as elegant for the same reasons, which she considered both a compliment and a curse .

My problem with female gymnasts is how unhealthy they look. Believe me on TV they look a million times better than in real life. Anybody who has seen World class Gymnasts in person will agree with me. They have very pale, almost translucent skin and often very dark patches under their eyes - they look like they're going to fall down any minute (their constant frown as they concentrate on the compe ion also doesn't help).

I don't know about alot of them, but I saw Dominique Dawes about 2 years or so after the Atlanta games beside me at a light, she looked ALOT better in person than she ever looked on television. But like I said, that was just her.

I never said she was attractive, but judges and gymnastics comentators always described her routines and posture as elegant, an attribute that is now used a lot when refering to Nastja.

I've attended quite a few top gymnastics tournament (long story) where the USSR, Romanian and other top teams regularly performed. I've actually met Nadia Comaneci (sp?) a few years before her retirement. And the way I described them is how I saw them. Maybe it was the pressure of the compe ion (believe me they were taking that stuff very seriously). But if it's not true for others, I'm glad because those little girls looked like they escaped from a hospital.
