    Interesting thread

I'm not sure how much intelligence you can tell from a message board. Of course, you can tell who is well read, writes well, or argues well. As for intelligence, there are a lot of people who can recall facts, history, etc. They are very good trivia experts with good memories, but not necessarily intelligent. There are others that will only talk about subjects they know well, but aren't well-rounded in their knowledge. Others are very good at logic, mathematical and otherwise.

I know that we have posted IQ test results here before and the scores were astronomically higher than any average group of people. My only conclusion from that is that SpursTalk attracts smart people and/or good liars.

You know your realm well, and rule fairly with your velvet fist.

PS I'm can be either subtle, or subtle as a sledgehammer, but few people get that. Oh well.

Interesting trend of new "who's the most . . ." threads.

I agree that the tests that RG talks about don't really tell you who's the most intelligent because they seem to be general knowledge tests (and biased towards things related to Amercia).

Other tests such as IQ tests would definetly tell a more accurate story.

I still believe you can tell from how people write about different topics, who is an intelligent person.

I agree. Research has shown time and time again the extremely high correlation between a good vocabulary and intelligence. And while this may too be biased against our non-American peers, I believe anecdotal assessments of vocabulary and prose mechanics are more than useful in forming our own opinions about the intelligence of other posters.

Edit: There's plenty of research out there that I'd like to cite, but stupid google books and JStor show everything in .pdf. Here's a link though:

I think a great deal of it has to do with the particular subjects that are discussed here. There are people who show their insight or education with regards to sports, or legal issues, or political issues but that does not necessarily make them intelligent, possibly just well-informed or well-read. There are entire arenas of human knowledge that are not even touched upon at all on here that may require higher levels of natural intelligence to grasp.
