didn't understand, why the league skipped the dunk-contest for several years...now I'm all for it to be never done again...such a waste of time!
my idea: replace it with a layup contest!...its more interesting to see, if lamar odom can make a layup with his right hand!

lets go through some ideas to improve the contest:
1) bringing in the stars! can you force kobe or lebron to participate? no, of course you cant! but how about creating an athmosphere, were they really want to win? how about handing the winner the appearance on the NBA-live cover or doing it for a f***in' cadillac escalade slam dunk premium edition.
...if that doesnt work, how about making every NBA-player a sponsor for a child in the third world...only the winner getting the name and location of "his" child + some help been sent to him. for gods sake: just call it the HELP HAITI - dunk contest for the next decate, giving a dollar to haiti for every tuned in TV at the contest! "so you dont want to help haiti lebron?"
2) have a participant from the dleague...you can be sure, some of these guys will spent days only practicing for that few minutes, presenting themself to the world.
3) insert a rule, that you can't participate anymore, if you already have 3 dunk championships...I can't stand nate anymore!
4) now the best...make it a playoffsystem!...every team has to make someone the teams participant...one dunk only per round (max of 2 tries)!...winner gets free tacos/burgers/donuts for all fans at their next homegame!...maybe there will be some weak dunks, but these players will be eliminatet emidiately. should also improve the chances of having some more stars (ok, shannon brown and jamario moon probably would participate instead of kobe and lebron...so forget about it)...we could send dejuan! I bet he could get like 5 rebounds per dunking!
