Perkins was the fear factor for the Celtics. The very soul of that team. He knew our deepest fears and thru that knowledge, that innate capability the Celtics as a whole were able to exploit us.
I just pray that "knowledge" doesn't travel.

One of my fave oldies growing up. My brother and I would reference the "That don't add up" whenever we were confused about something.Classic.
me too .... i still use that when the old lady tries to say stupid I know she's lying about .......
If you really want to get down to it, Sheed was the bigger loss than Perkins. As soon as his grey patch rode into the sunset last summer the Celtics le chances were ed. They tried to mitigate with Shaq and JO but it just wont work.
No. Wallace could no longer do it to us "alone" as he had in Detroit. Once Perkins went down last June Wallace was finished and everybody knew it, especially the Lakers. There was blood in the water and Kobe about when cuckoo with the anticipation.
Wallace was to Perkins what Powe had been to him. The loss of Powe was a harbinger for the Celtics. They've been retreating ever since.
Wallace was the reason Boston got up and stayed up early in game 7. He gave them the shooting of Kristic + the toughness of Perkins. Soon as he retired, along with Perks injury, it was game over.
If they'd have kept him last summer and not signed anyone else, they'd be good as gravy going into the playoffs right now. Oh, he'd have coasted regular season again, just like last year. But come gametime that boy came ready to play. My biggest fear this spring was that he was just waiting for the PO's, biding time, and would resign with the C's for the April run.
Lucky for us, the only green Wallace is seeing is the Mr. Nice Guy in his pipe. Old trusty from the dorms at Carolina, probably never threw it away.
Instead they signed Troy Murphy, and traded their only remaining interior. If the O'Neal boys dont rise out of the lazarus chamber like Ra's Al Ghul, they'll have only themselves to blame for what comes next.
But, Wallace wanted to come back this season (late), he just received no encouragement from Ainge & the Celtics front office. Gotta be the money. He (Wallace) was foolish enough to walk away from that multi million dollar contract and the Celtics weren't going to let him back in. There's a gentlemen's agreement there in MA. over all this messy business with Wallace & Perkins. Media & the Celtics are in league together to keep it off the "papers."///like Tiger Woods and his piccadillos. Like Woods though, if it goes South for the Celtics in the playoffs they'll have to lift the gag order and then we'll get "the once upon a time." And it's gonna be a doozy.
Sheed played the best that he could that Game 7, and I won't fault him for that. However, with Perkins down, we had no other reliable C. If we had Perk/Sheed for Games 6 and 7, things might be different.
Yup. I half-expected them to sign Sheed for the playoffs too.
