I'm not assuming anything. There is no proof of any kind that a gay gene exists. And we know it's not heredity which was my point there.
"I never thought about it" makes no sense. You are calling sexuality a choice but are now saying you never chose yours.
Smoking drinking and drug use come from peer pressure a lot of times. Depression. And then addiction. Crimes like theft usually come from those desperate for a buck.

I don't know about proof of a gay gene. I haven't done a bunch of research on it. But it's clear that some men are born with something (a gene or whatever) that makes them more effeminate and/or with a predilection for the same sex. And vice versa with women. Sometimes this gets accepted and fostered and sometimes, parents and/or society forces them to fight it. I'm sure in some cases, it could be something learned or developed due to a traumatic event. But I believe that a large part of gay people were in effect "born that way".
If sexuality was purely genetic "you got it or ya dont" thing it would have been wiped out a long time ago due to natural selection (a theory you don't believe in). There are many things about people's personalities that aren't purely genetic but at the same time are not "choices.
Gene expression is a very complicated concept. Two people born with the same gene might not express that gene unless it gets triggered
