Monta Ellis can easily go off for 25+ & win a game. He's playing point guard so he isn't looking to score as much as his Mavs days.

Indy's bigs are marginally better than Toronto's (outside PG who is the best player on the court), but Indy's backcourt does pale in comparison to theirs, regardless of if they're better than the Spurs'. DeRozan/Lowry are checkmated b/c PG/Hill matchup well w/ them on defense plus Monta is MUCH better than Ross.
PG isn't a guard, and Hill is worse than either DeRozan or Lowry. Monta is a mixed bag; he can either be way better than Ross or way worse. Plus, CoJo > any other Indy guard.

The debate was about backcourt vs backcourt, not matchups. Toronto's backcourt is superior to Indy's by a wide margin while Indy's frontcourt is only slightly better, not even to make up the difference on the perimeter. Also, Stuckey may be a slightly better offensive player, but CoJo is better on defense and a better all-around player. There's a reason Stuckey can't get the start on Indy despite how mediocre their starting guards are.

In a vacuum, Porker was MUCH BETTER than Harris ('06) & Conley ('11) but they locked him up b/c they were elite defenders. This is essentially what's happening to DeRozan/Lowry b/c STYLES make fights.
You can look at how Smart/Bradley gave Curry/Klay trouble despite not being on the same stratosphere in a vacuum.
You have to consider both sides of the ball. They may be able to defend but can they contribute just as much or more on the other end to make a difference? Lowry and DeRozan missed a lot of looks they should generally make while Hill/Monta/Stuckey didn't contribute much more than them. If they weren't such playoff chokers they win this game by double digits; the Raptors were able to limit the Pacers outside PG much more than the Pacers were able to limit the Raptors. Unless Carroll is healthy, they have no one to guard PG. We're talking about the same team that couldn't guard the corpse of Paul Pierce.
Besides, they DIDN'T really limit the "others" for the Pacers which is why they were in the game w/ PG scoring ONLY 4 pts in the 1st half.

The argument isn't/wasn't about who guards who; it's about production, backcourt talent, and overall quality of depth.
Production is severely affected by matchups, so it's part of the argument whether you like it or not.
Put Tony Parker on Kevin Durant for 48 minutes, he's probably going for 40+ on 50-60% shooting. Put Kawhi on Kevin Durant and he's probably going for 20-25 on 40% shooting. You can't just remove the impact of matchups on player production.
The original argument was depth against depth. Yes, match ups matter, but when one team is 10 deep while the other is 6-7 deep at best, cross-matching tends to lose it's impact, especially when the talent level is skewed to the deeper team as well.
If George is going to get matched up with Geroge the whole series, he will lose the matchup almost everytime. Lowry is key here. Hes the one that should be winning this matchup.
