Didn't claim otherwise, but the Spurs at least have an elite frontcourt and superior depth. Indy has little outside of PG.
Cats who depend on the refs blowing the whistle are going to underachieve in the postseason. Just look at the master James HarDone.
The Pacers backcourt is better than the Spurs backcourt from top to bottom.
This Raptors are no different than the Bosh led Raptors who choked in the 1st rd back in 2007 when the Eastern conference was wide open that Baby LeBron took the Cavs to the Finals w/ Boobie Gibson as his wingman.
I would say this is more like Nets/Raptors 20014 when Joe Johnson was the best player on the floor.
Monta Ellis can easily go off for 25+ & win a game. He's playing point guard so he isn't looking to score as much as his Mavs days.
Dude is Richard Jefferson 2.0 in the playoffs.![]()

PG/Turner/Ian should be enough against Biyombo & 'em.![]()
Indy's bigs are marginally better than Toronto's (outside PG who is the best player on the court), but Indy's backcourt does pale in comparison to theirs, regardless of if they're better than the Spurs'. Indy on paper has lesser talent but Toronto is full of chokers.
DeRozan/Lowry are checkmated b/c PG/Hill matchup well w/ them on defense plus Monta is MUCH better than Ross.
PG isn't a guard, and Hill is worse than either DeRozan or Lowry. Monta is a mixed bag; he can either be way better than Ross or way worse. Plus, CoJo > any other Indy guard.
PG isn't a guard but he GUARDS DeRozan & Hill isn't better than Lowry but he matches up well w/ him on defense.
Plus, Stuckey can do what CoJo did if the Pacers were running their offense through him.![]()
The debate was about backcourt vs backcourt, not matchups. Toronto's backcourt is superior to Indy's by a wide margin while Indy's frontcourt is only slightly better, not even to make up the difference on the perimeter. Luckily Toronto is full of choke artists and the Pacers do have the best overall player in the series.
Also, Stuckey may be a slightly better offensive player, but CoJo is better on defense and a better all-around player. There's a reason Stuckey can't get the start on Indy despite how mediocre their starting guards are.
What the is the point of looking at backcourts in a vacuum as if they are going to be playing in an empty gym?
In a vacuum, Porker was MUCH BETTER than Harris ('06) & Conley ('11) but they locked him up b/c they were elite defenders. This is essentially what's happening to DeRozan/Lowry b/c STYLES make fights.
You can look at how Smart/Bradley gave Curry/Klay trouble despite not being on the same stratosphere in a vacuum.
You have to consider both sides of the ball. They may be able to defend but can they contribute just as much or more on the other end to make a difference? Lowry and DeRozan missed a lot of looks they should generally make while Hill/Monta/Stuckey didn't contribute much more than them. It very well may continue over the course of the series, and I actually think it will since both are notorious playoff chokers, but in the end both would generally destroy their counterparts with CoJo at least outplaying Stuckey.
Hill/Monta/Stuckey weren't ASKED to do much on offense b/c PG was rolling. Hill/Monta actually outplayed Lowry/DeRozan on offense too.![]()
They outplayed them because they were choking on a bag of s. If they weren't such playoff chokers they win this game by double digits; the Raptors were able to limit the Pacers outside PG much more than the Pacers were able to limit the Raptors. I see it continuing but with Lowry/DeRozan continuing to fade, though as Harlem said earlier PG may shoot <40% the rest of the series which will sink the Pacers regardless of how much Toronto tries to give the series away.
Unless Carroll is healthy, they have no one to guard PG. We're talking about the same team that couldn't guard the corpse of Paul Pierce.
Besides, they DIDN'T really limit the "others" for the Pacers which is why they were in the game w/ PG scoring ONLY 4 pts in the 1st half.![]()
Paul George is up and down with his shot tbh, he doesn't need to be guarded by an elite defender to shoot poorly.
He ONLY needs to show-up in 3 out of 6 games.![]()
Casey also is one of the worst coaches in the nba tbh....vanilla takes by ESPN about improving raptors won't watching their games....
I think he will tbh. I never said the Raptors were going to win the series (picked Pacers in 6) but not because they have inferior talent but because they have choking/irrelevant talent.
Can't believe you actually had to point that out. People here are clueless.
The argument isn't/wasn't about who guards who; it's about production, backcourt talent, and overall quality of depth.
Production is severely affected by matchups, so it's part of the argument whether you like it or not.
Put Tony Parker on Kevin Durant for 48 minutes, he's probably going for 40+ on 50-60% shooting. Put Kawhi on Kevin Durant and he's probably going for 20-25 on 40% shooting. You can't just remove the impact of matchups on player production.
The original argument was depth against depth. Yes, match ups matter, but when one team is 10 deep while the other is 6-7 deep at best, cross-matching tends to lose it's impact, especially when the talent level is skewed to the deeper team as well.
If George is going to get matched up with Geroge the whole series, he will lose the matchup almost everytime. Lowry is key here. Hes the one that should be winning this matchup.
People avtuslly want us to pay DD mac money after 3 straight playoff failures to show up when his team needs him most?
Fuk that ...if he offers us a hometown discount ...maybe. if he wants max stay the in Toronto ...he playing like ass
Lowry a top PG
