I don't agree with that. I don't think everyone who watches these debates has already given careful consideration to every issue of policy that is discussed. This is a good opportunity to go beyond the superficial bull that dominates election coverage and actually educate the American audience on something.
And if everyone has made up their minds about the issues and who they're voting for, why even have the debates?

Assuming, of course, the major political parties have nominated candidates who are capable of doing that.
That, and Americans "just don't have time for nuance" any more. There are iPhones to look at and there's Netflixing to do.
Maybe I'm just cynical -- probably that -- but engaging in actual policy discussion that isn't anything more than black/white, good/bad, liberal/conservative just isn't something that the electorate tolerates well. The nuance is absolutely vital to governance, and it's particularly important to finding compromise, but we've made the bulk of the electorate into such partisans that they see any nuance in major policy positions (and, by extension, any compromise by their preferred candidates) as intolerable capitulation to the opposing forces of evil.
Perhaps it's always been that way and I've just been too naive to see it so clearly, but I really do think we've reached a point that nuance and moderation make a candidate unelectable rather than smart.

Like I say, I'm cynical and that may inform my view of things.
Still, it does seem like there was a time when moderation was accepted and respected, and accepting moderation requires (I think) appreciating the details and trying to understand them.
People used to read stuff like The Federalist Papers.
Politics needs its own Neil Degrasse Tyson.
Trump doesn't even know what the he talks about. One day he says something, the next thing he contradicts it. Kaine and that video are using the worst points Trump has said, but they don't even know what his position is because he has taken 50 different positions on each topic.
Who knows.
Personally, I think he's sincere in wanting to beat Hillary. Why? , maybe she turned him down for a blowjob Megan Kelly style or some . Dude is ing re ed.
But at the end of the day, he's still a business man. Specifically, a business man who will dance to any song as long as it fills his pockets. He's got assets in both China & Russia. They'd let him live out the rest of his ignorant, miserable existence there I'm sure. , they'd prolly give him his own t.v. show to boot--Apprentice China style. He can dangle a whole lot of money in front of whoever he has to after all. He can save face that way. But only because people would be so stupid to believe him (& he's shown an impressive ap ude for exploiting that in this election clearly).
Regardless, I hope his business & his brand flush down the toilet as he's a sore on this country.
I'm 27 so I don't know how it was "back in the day" but one thing I've found out is that the Internet for all its advantages, is basically information overload. People aren't filtering out they need to. It also doesn't help when two of the biggest social media trends to come out--Facebook & Twitter--basically only give people the option to "like" or "follow", or "block" someone/something. Nuance is at an all time low right now. I think this is honestly the beginning of the end for this country if people can't self-correct that. Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but I think 100 years from now kids will be reading about how & when it started to crumble, & they'll point to now.

Yeah, that's about the time period a lot of people I've heard refer to too. Can you elaborate (really generally, like bullet points) on why that is?
That's when you started seeing like GM going to Mexico and we started transforming into a service economy.
And I guess that's why Trump's message resonates w/ people (not enough to warrant incuring all his other baggage).
