I can't see the Spurs trading Tony though, if only because he's a franchise icon. All signs point to the Spurs salary dumping Danny Green as their next big move.

It needs to be for something. I don't want the Spurs to Splitter him.
Spurs have no leverage, though. Everyone and their grandma knows the Spurs need to shed Green's salary to make a run at Chris Paul.

Yes but Green has a good contract, has leadership experience, and plays high level D while having a good rep as a three point shooter. If he were a free agent, I'd bet he'd get some good offers.

In a Danny's trade, only acceptable scenario for the Spurs would be making space for CP3.

I would hate if Houston or any other WC rival get CP3 and we lose Danny for nothing.

Duncan is still getting paid two years after retirement. Manu Ginobili just got paid $14M as a 39 year old. Bonner was gifted a 10 year 27.1M career by the Spurs for being a career garbage time player. Parker isn't going anywhere.

If Spurs plan to keep Parker as a backup for CP3 it's not a bad idea. Imagine Curry having to chase around CP3 and Parker on the court at the same time, lol. That is if the Spurs can sign CP3.
    Chasing Parker.

    That's a good one tbh

He had Mike Conley, a better defender on the run.

Ruptured Quad Parker wouldn't outrun Boris Diaw even if his life depended on it.

The fact is the Spurs cannot stand pat this free agency period. They have to make some moves to keep our team compe ive. The loss of Kawhi during the Golden State series showed that we don't have enough creators on offense. We have guys that play off a dominant player, but when that player goes down, where does that leave us? Even if Parker was healthy during the Golden State series, we would have still got blitzed. Kawhi cannot be the only initiator on offense. LA was brought in to a presence in the frontcourt but his beta mindset is screwing us over. That means you need a creator at the guard spots. Point or shooting guard positions, we are old or unathletic. Simmons brought some energy to the lineup but he is not a reliable option at the 2. I am not saying that we go all out to bring CP3 here because he is not the solution to dethroning Golden State. We need team speed and athleticism to match up against the Warriors. Our current structure of using post players as perimeter threats is not working. When our offense was at the best we had a dominant post presence and three point shooters on the perimeter. TD reincarnated has not appeared but we need to have a strong post player to offset the loss of a weak backcourt. I hope that we can shed Greens salary but his trade value is not high. I would rather we bring in talent from overseas or use our draft picks on players that can immediately contribute. We are not going to get to the Finals with the current team we have. That is reality. We need to either embrace more role players or we need a dominant All-Star that Kawhi can take a blow on the bench and our team not lose our leads. It really sucks because we invested in Aldridge heavily and it has cost us any chance of building a compe ive team. I really hope that LA rediscovers his love for basketball and desire to win but honestly I don't know if he ever possessed that quality.

Let's not forget that besides the obvious - Parker is a lifer - the Spurs can actually get a return for Danny Green, even if its small as he's a valuable player on a good dollar contract. Parker is essentially a salary dump as he can't play most of next year, and would require assets to trade away.

So don't consider it Danny or Parker. Consider it, say, keep Green+trade 29 to dump Parker, or keep Parker+get late 1st for Danny.

What if the spurs were able to clear enough space to sign cp3 without salary dumping parker but cp3 refused to come because the spurs won't cut ties with Tony unless parker is out of the picture and another piece could be brought in.

For purposes of an example, what if demon walked and Paul insisted they bring in a big with pick n roll diving ability who is a decent alley oop guy.

If Paul insisted on it would you just say off or would you then be willing to salary dump parker? Anyone who says no and is hanging on to tony's own pipe dream that he will be back in january playing his best basketball is delusional.

It's not Parker. It's always been Green.
Some people's refusal to accept this reality has been interesting. If he actually gets moved, it has to be a good sign they like their chances with CP3. Love that the FO always has a plan.

Pointless hypothetical. CP3 would come here because the Spurs sell him on their vision of surrounding him with the right talent to compete for les. There is also no controversy with Parker, who has already said he'd accept a bench role in the future. That future being CP3.

Danny Green is a damn good role player and defender. They don't win game 5 against Houston without his clutch shots
Sure they dont win game 5 without him, but they lost lots of playoff games because of him.
