    Bombs.

How often have you seen a soccer game where one team completely outplays the other and the weaker side wins anyway based on a fluke goal? The answer is — all the time. I understand there’s luck and fluke plays in all sports, but they are not as critical when they are not the only score in the game...

But despite my affinity for a game I actually grew up with (I was raised in Turkey and New Jersey, both soccer hubs), I can see its faults clearly.

The Turk here saw the light in this case when exposed to much better American/Canadian sports as a kid.

Or they can just widen the net. One thing I'll say is that soccer is not the only one using archaic rules. Basketball hasn't adapted to the post-shot clock era. All sports have outdated rules really but some, such as hockey, adapt. Soccer likely won't because its popularity will likely remain the same.
Indoor soccer was basically "the fix" in this case. But indoor sports are never as atmospheric, aesthetic and "epic" looking as sports played on large fields. I also think Gaelic Football makes soccer completely obsolete, as I've said before.

I like soccer because it requires great skill to work without your hands. But that doesn't mean rules laid out 100 years ago have to be set in stone.

PKs look easy but like FTs in the NBA Finals ( o Nick Anderson and George Hill), but pressure and field conditions make them a challenge even for the world's best... And sometimes the goalie guesses correctly and stops the shot.
I agree not the best choice to end a match of that magnitude but they are given 30 extra minds beforehand to try and avoid it.
    is exciting none the less
The goal for the US is to make a similar run like Russia did this Cup as host team underdogs was impressive.
    US has no excuses.
    Bold is absolutely false.

To stop a shot the keeper has to:
    1) guess the spot
    2) jump slightly before the shot
A skilled PK taker usually checks the keeper, if the keeper jumps slightly before the shot the PK taker changes shot direction -> goal. If the keeper stays pat then the PK taker shoots with enough power to make sure the keeper never gets there -> goal.

Penalties are missed. They are never saved.

Ridiculous. Another team I like seeing losing is England, and those ers advanced against Colombia without even properly putting the ball into the net . First goal was a Kane PK and then they advanced after they won at Mario Party. The poorly designed "sport" of soccer can easily fix this by allowing larger rosters and unlimited subs (the excuses I've heard about why soccer doesn't allow unlimited subs are poor), which would allow for indefinite overtime, like in ice hockey

And at all these povertypenalty fans defending PKs. Shootouts were introduced in the 50s or 60s to make the sport more "fan friendly." They were never historically a part of the game, and teams would play until there was a winner, continuing the next day if possible. It's a jackass way to decide important matches. It's a ing minigame that barely resembles the main game and based on more luck than skill. The team who goes first (decided by a coinflip ) wins 61% of the time. So win the lucky coinflip and the odds are in your favor.

Soccer fans will continue to defend it because they're "exciting," and if conversing with Divekick fans on here has taught me anything, is that they value shallow entertainment above all else.
commenting on something you don't understand. true american tbh.

One of the best WC finals ever, love to see scoring. More like a hockey game than soccer.

Also, congratulations France. Time for me to celebrate by making myself a croque monsieur, egg, and french music from Youtube.

Why the doesn't England play with a unified United Kingdom team? They do for the Olympics. That'd be like Texas competing internationally or Ontario.

Mistake filled game. PK was re ed. Goals 3 and 4 for France were huge mistakes by the Croatian defense. Goal 2 for Croatia was just an embarrassment for France.

Maybe, you never know. The Soviets always won more than Russia does. Besides, my point is it's weird for soccer but not the Olympics and vice versa, heck it makes WAY more sense for them to do it in the Olympics but be a unified country for soccer.

Bull . Normally true and I get that the best PK takers don't miss... But in this World Cup there hVe been legit PK saves made by the Russian and Croatian goal keepers.

problem with england squad has always been lacking that left footed player on the left wing midfield ....that was probably their weakest position for the last 20yrs

My favorite 2 foods are egg-flour fried chicken and jambalaya, two "black" foods... and I'm not black at all. My (black) wife made me fried chicken tonight. She's the greatest.
