A team option for year two would be ideal but I don't view this as a bad contract regardless. Better than tying us up for 4 years imo considering we don't really know what we're going to get out of him with extended playing time this year.

It’s fully guaranteed per Bertans. SA has not done a good job (taking Kawhi out of the equation) this off season. Adding 13M in guaranteed salary to the books next year for Beli/Bertans is not wise and does not help with rebuilding or flexibility.

This makes no sense to me. If you are ok with Bertans at 2/14.5 then why would you not be ok with Bertans at 2 more years for just 2.5 each year?

Sh*t sucks man. Everything SA is doing points to not caring at all about retooling or maxing cap space, but trying to fight to be a mediocre playoff team even after Kawhi.

I don’t understand it. I can see trying to win if you can get good young-ish players for Kawhi, but not giving yourself max cap flexibity while doing that? That’s what I don’t get.

I get wanting to be a playoff team and I agree with that but you can get 1 year deals instead of Beli/Bertans and be no worse off there.

Spurs may have given this knowing they will get out of the Mills or Gasol contract including him in a Kawhi trade.

Maybe the Spurs are anticipating trading Kawhi for a big contract like Lowry or DeRozan and they're just trying to clear cap space for 2020. Basically punting on cap space next summer. It explains giving $13M to Beli and Bertans combined while letting Kyle walk. If the Spurs unload Mills in the Kawhi deal it's more reinforcement.

Didn't like 5 million per year, really don't like 7.25 million a year.

Noy saying I wouldn’t be ok with it I just prefer the flexibility of not being locked down more years

So they wanted two year deals instead of one.

    Big mystery.

he's doing a really weird thing trying to downplay a 2 year contract by saying "next year, there will only be one year left!"
I’m saying it because the Spurs have no cap space anyway this season and would have to otherwise replace Bertans with the minimum contract. I look at it as a minimum deal this year for that reason + a 1 / $7.5mm going into FA next year.

Pop is gone. He is braindead . He is on life support . The Spurs are trying to make Pop comfortable for the next 2 years.

I think Bertans natural position is small forward....

    What do you think guys?
