I'm still picking the Spurs
Mavs record in last 15 games: 13-2.
Spurs record in last 15 games: 13-2.
How about that.
I'm still picking the Spurs
Just amused that everyone in the media sez the Spurs have been struggling (which they have at times), the Mavs have been the hottest team in the L, and lookie, the same records.
I got owned?![]()
Go play with Ken.
Yeah... playoff series wise... we own you.Unfortunately matchups mean a ton in basketball. The spurs don't matchup well to the mavs.
Seeing how you'll be a 4th seed, you better hope Denver or Phoenix don't get the 5th seed, or your Mavs will bend over more times than you at your local Chip'nDales.
Ok Dr. Ramsey. The mavs don't matchup well to Phoenix or Denver. The spurs do matchup well to Phoenix and Denver.
As I posted last night....
NANNY NANNY BOO BOO!
haha true BUT in all fairness the mavs had been DESTROYING teams while we have been barely scraping by. our record is still fools gold and at this rate we'll still get crushed by Detroit when it matters. This is one of the rare times where a team can have a 7 game win streak and you still know that they're a LONG ways a way from where they need to be
Not to ing mention we've had a load of injury problems.![]()

Took the words right off my mouth.
You can't really blame them though. They're just responding to the Mavs fans that are growing y by each passing win and trumpeting this 13-game winning streak like we've already won the le. But then again, most Spurs fans are equally full of it which is justified since they are the champs, but writing off the Mavs like they're nothing is ignorant.
i never wrote off the mavs, cuz like i said, they are DEF. better this year and much different than the team we faced in 2003. having said that, to beat an experienced spurs team in a seven game series, and especially if you guys dont end up having hca against us and your name isn't detroit......well i just dont think its gonna be very likely!
Spurs have yet to click...AT ALL. The little ponies, PISSED-ons and Rapist Kobe are getting sll the Headers. No biggie.
See you in May
16 of 28, not even tough for this squad!
They'll both foul out trying to guard Duncan - especially Damp.
Psst ... the same was true last year, but in the playoffs the Spurs beat both Denver and the Suns at their own fast paced game. If the Spurs need to play at another speed to overwelm the Mavs, they proved by out running the Suns, you remember the team the Mavs could not keep up with, that they are more than capible of shifting gears. The only thing is, the Spurs can force the action without sacrificing their focus on defense.
It's a no brainer that the Spurs have the rings and the team to prove that they are better than the Mavs but honestly, despite all the fuss about Phoenix and Amare, I think this edition of Dallas would be out this year's Suns.
It's Spurs>Mavs.. like most of us want to believe and well, it is! heheheh![]()
Still don't think this loss to the Nuggets will faze the Mavs though. Based on the way they've reacted to that 62 by Kobe, they'll stay confident.
The suns are easy to run against. The suns forced the speed by jacking up quick shots enabling the spurs to be able to run easily back on the suns because of this. The mavs are not the same run and gun team as the spurs. They prefer a slower pace and aren't able to do this against the suns.
A lot of us respect the Mavs, especially now since they actually have one person in their organization who has ever won anything.
It's just that when the Mavs fans try to come here and talk smack, well, that's like bringing a BB gun to a nuclear bomb test.
Saying " Spurs don't match up well against the Mavs" is basically saying "Spurs have less than a 50/50 chance of winning against the Mavs" which is saying basically "yup I'm another stupid Mavs fan".
I think most would think you are getting just a little carried away calling the Spurs a run and gun team.![]()
But I do agree with the assertion that the Mavs don't want to try to run with the Spurs. This year the Mavs offense has been better in being deliberate with how they attack and not forcing many shots. This equates to less possessions for both teams, and adds to the illusion of great defensive improvement by the Mavs.
I am not saying the defense has not improved. Just that the style of offensive has greatly benifited the defense. This is the reverse of the Spurs, who most viewed as an average offensive team the last several years. Because the Spurs have a proven defense, they often chose to play in a stlye that hurt the flow of their offensive game. Just as Flip has taken the shakles off the Pistons, Pop's conceeding to the big picture by freeing up the offensive development of Tony and Manu have made the Spurs dangerous in all aspects of the offensive game.
Sorry I accidentally put the spurs instead of the suns. what I meant was the mavs aren't like the suns with the run and gun.
Mavs fans were idioticly y like this back in 02 03.
The day they get rid of Keith Van Choke, thats when I'll take them seriously.
No its not the Mavs its the broomsticks. I know you're trying to get 1 million posts or something but you just wasted my eyesight by posting that
I think the iness of Mavs fans is a bit more justified this year than it was in 2002-03. That team defends well and still has some pretty good offensive firepower, so the thought that the Mavericks will be a tough opponent at any stage of the season is quite real. Slowly (but surely) the Mavericks are trying to emulate the Spurs formula by playing the game the way that Pop preaches it -- run and gun in Dallas is over; the fans up there who used to lament 85 points in wins are now relishing those games. And, so far, they're having some success with that.
I do think that the expectations are still somewhat different for both teams -- Mavs fans are mostly hoping (but with good reason) that their team is good enough to win the West; Spurs fans are largely expecting (and with good reason) that their team is good enough to win the West. The playoffs are a pressure cooker and many of the players on this Mavericks team have a pretty solid history of underachievement come playoff time. The Spurs, meanwhile, have managed to win every series they've played against any franchise other than the Lakers since 2000.
With all of that said, I must also say that I'm stunned a bit by the rampant lack of respect that some Mavs fans have for the Spurs and for Spurs fans, but I guess that's to be expected.
