A couple of months ago, Parker set aside a day for listeners to submit questions regarding the inner workings of the show. Anyway, Parker stated he had received a lot of questions about Tony Bruno, and he proceeded to relate the contract renewal dispute between Bruno and Asswood. He got most of the facts straight, but displayed his ignorance when he stated that Tony "had a local show" on KNBR in San Francisco before moving over to Sporting News Radio. That is incorrect...Bruno would call in for a daily 15-minute segment with KNBR host Gary Radnich, but he never hosted a full-blown show. I know, because I used to listen to the segment every day over the internet.
Most interesting of all is that Charlie claimed Tony is "a good friend" (doubtful, unless meeting him the one time Tony and Andrew brought the Extravaganza to town for the Final Four qualifies Parker as his "friend"), and that during all the years that Parker has had a show on 760, including the original Parker show in the '90's, Parker's numbers have consistently and handily beaten Bruno's numbers. Can anyone verify this claim?
By the way, as a loyal Bruno listener, I find it interesting that Clear Channel bigwig Red McCombs still comes on Bruno's show on a regular basis to talk sports, but I've only heard him once on Parker's show (during the Saints flirtation period). McCombs clearly is a huge Bruno fan. Hmmm, I wonder who McCombs would rather have in the Clear Channel stable....
