I guess it's safe to say that Sanikidze is back on the basketball map.
That's my point when I post his stats.
I'm just happy for him that he is able to play (and be good even if the level is weak) after one year off.

Sanikidze needs to stay in Europe.
    Agree with that.

    Thanks Bruno.

No matter what the compe ion you want to see a young man stand out and put up some dominant numbers. He definitely has the talent, and has the chance to be something special.

Do you think he can turn himself into a defensive monster? I know he has the laterall quickness, but I don't know how much he is dedicated on that side of the ball.

    I haven't a clue about that, I haven't seen him play.
I've read some reports from Dijon fans last year who said that Sanikidze played with a lot of heart on the defensive end but that he needed to work on his offense.

BTW, he is playing the final against Macedonia.
    At the halftime : Macedonia 49 - Georgia 45, Sanikidze 17 pts, 9 rbds, 2 ast

Sanikidze is just toying with the compe ion. I know is division B, but nonetheless you want him playing his best against any type of compe ion, and thats exactly what he was doing.

Dijon is a good place for him. I wonder if he goes back to the French League. It would be amazing to see him and Ian at Pau Orthez....so that they can start getting a feel for one another.

We are all basically in the dark on how Viktor plays the game. San Antonio is a long way from Tbilisi, and I don't think JDA Dijon has ever played in a broadcasted game on NBAtv.

So far the only apparent negative is his outside shot which looks like it needs work.

If there is an MVP Sankidze must have snared it.

He shot 6/10 from 3 against Czech and 2/5 from 3 against Netherlands this last week. So it looks like his perimeter game is coming along.

Not bad production for his age.

He definitely still has the potential, ability to score, and the knack to rebound.

I want to him in the Pro A in France....if he can put up good numbers there, then people can get more and more excited. So far so good....kid's got talent.

For the tournament he was 19/55 for .345 from a 22 foot three. Not too bad. Not great. But he's only 20. .345 doesn't rank in the top 25 three point shooters in the tournament.

Yeah, his perimeter game is not his strength.

He probably has a nice low post game or is getting the points by attacking the basket.

If he can pat down his game inside 18ft consistently....the he still has plenty of time to work on his 3.

Congrats to Sanikidze for taking it home. Even though it's probably low, low compe ion, it's always good to come out on top.

What would people in Europe compare the compe ion to? I'm guessing like Division III college basketball. Maybe worse.

Well, one big difference is that Division A mainly consists of the Big European countries that have big leagues and that heavily produce NBA talent....Serbia Montenegro, Spain, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, France, Greece, Russia, Germany, etc....

Division B clearly are smaller countries with less known talent....Georgia, Poland, Finland, Macedonia, Ireland, Austria, Ukraine, Portugal, Netherlands, etc....

That may be one of the reasons or it may not.....Sanikidze definitely deserves to be playing in that A Division.

and he will, Georgia earned promotion to Divison A in 2007 and so did F.Y.R. of Macedonia

    Link

its says they got a promotion to Division B but that is a typo since they are already in Division B.

    Link 2

that talks about Macedonia getting a promotion to Division A in 2007

Great but in 2007 Sanikidze will be too old to play with the U20 team.
We will know what he is worth when he will play in 2 month with an european team.

Is the number of teams in a division set? does the promotion of one team to A = the demotion of another team to B?

also his rebounding stats look quite impressive ... i haven't had the time to read the entire thread and am curious as to what position they play him at ... from those board numbers i'd assume a 4 ... but those 3 pt field goal attempt numbers make it look like he chills on the outside a lot. not comparing him to dirk ... but it would appear he has that kinda game.

Yes, there are 16 teams in the division A

He played PF but it's a youth tournament. His future in nba (if he has one) is at SF.

Don't know exactly, maybe Germany and Belarus. If I see something on that tomorrow, I will post it in this thread.

edit : I've googled : it's Germany and Belarus for Georgia and Macedonia.

Any word where he might be playing next?

I hope he can go and play somewhere big....like in the French, Spanish, or Italian league.

However, those big clubs might want long extensions, while I'm sure the Spurs have told him to stay clear from that.

Slovenia wins bronze in Division A (Italy gets owned again):

Emir Preldzic scored 29 points as Slovenia secured the bronze medal at the OSTCHEM U20 European Championship Men with an 83-75 victory over Italy.

Preldzic scored five points in a crucial 9-0 fourth quarter run as Slovenia pulled ahead 72-63 with 3:28 remaining in the game.

Italy would not get closer than five points during the rest of the game.

Besides Preldzic's performance, Slovenia also received double-digit scoring from Jaka Klobucar (15), Dejan Hohler (13), Gasper Vidmar (10) and Aljosa Remus (10).

Ivan Scarponi and Luigi Da Tome each scored 14 points, and Luca Vital and Luca Lechthaler chipped in with 11 points apiece for the Italians.

Slovenia pulled ahead 21-14 after the first quarter and then extended the lead to 11 points - 33-22 - with Klobucar's free throws midway through the second quarter.

After Slovenia led 39-35 at half-time, Italy took their first lead of the game 42-41 on Da Tome's three-pointer.

The teams were tied 57-57 after three quarters only for Slovenia to pull away with Preldzic`s scoring run.

    Georgia Win Division B le // 23 July 2006
Georgia defeated FYROM on Sunday night to claim the Ostchem European Championship Division B le.

Tournament MVP Viktor Sanikidze was once again the driving force for Georgia and his 30-point haul included 11 of 21 shooting, four three-pointers and a couple of thunderous dunks.

Combining with some smart play from his team-mates and in particular point guard Giorgi Gamqrelidze, who netted 15 points of his to go with his 8 assists, the Georgians took control in the last quarter running out winners 88-96.

With both teams already qualified for Division A, some thought the game would be a formality, but with serious bragging rights at stake both teams sought the win from the tip-off.

Some spectacular play from both teams had the crowd applauding through the game, and the intensity saw emotions and tempers rise at one point.

However ultimately with five Georgian players in double figures, FYROM could do little in the last quarter to prevent their drive for the gold medal. FYROM's center Samardziski tried to rally his team but his 23 points and 12 rebounds could not halt the sweet Georgia victory
