Now thats weird...
Mir vs Sylvia was rejected by the NSAC because Mir isn't ready for somebody of Tim's caliber. How far Mir has fallen after breaking Tim's arm.

Morton knock out
He dropped gloves and leaned right into the punch, basic boxing 101 mistake. He's lucky he still has a head attached to his shoulders. If he faced a true stiker he might be in a coma. This is the danger of all of these chaotic MMA start ups going on right now.
I know K-1 is far from a start up but what business did Mortan have in the ring? So they run like one.
Evan Tanner in September? yeah! I miss watching that guy fight. Can't wait.
Here's a couple more MMA blogs worth bookmarking...

Hmmm...Pulver might drop to 145 and fight Faber in the WEC after Penn kicks his ass in a few weeks...
Damn, I just realized I'm going to be on vacation at that time. I hope the hotel has e!! I'll miss the Strikeforce event on the 22nd too...
I did a little write up about that Morton fight, the more I think about it the more I think that fight should have never happened. I wonder if the NSAC would have allowed it?
I really cant believe it happened either, he had been training for only like 2 months or something like that. He could have gotten killed
Yeah it wasn't very long at all. Shameful.
If anything, the Morton fight should be a cautionary tale about the respect the sport demands from its compe ors. It says a lot that a world class athelete like an NFL player, who's accustomed to getting hit, can get destroyed so severely and easily.
You guys are right though. It's ridiculous that Morton would get a match on such a large show with no experience and so little training. I hope this kind of thing doesn't become a trend.

Of course it would make sense if I posted the story...
News and notes
• The UFC is still trying to hammer out a deal with Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko. Talks are said to be going reasonably well but there have been some hangups. The biggest issue has been dealing with all of the people he's affiliated with. His representatives want special concessions, and there is a push to get some of the fighters who train with him contracts as well.

Dana needs to do whatever it takes. The time to spend big is now.
I think the issue is concessions, not money.
If he wants more Red Devil guys signed...SIGN THEM! I can understand how they'd want him to sign an exclusive contract though. He's supposed to fight in a combat sambo match in Sept...that won't fly with Dana I'm sure. It was surprising to me that he was fighting in a sambo match a couple weeks before one of his Pride fights. Combat sambo is full on just like MMA for the most part. Could've easily been cut or something...
I checked your site and found the link![]()
Agree. Although Fabricio Werdum did fight in Abu Dhabi, I know thats not as tough as MMA or for your example, Sambo, but it is still very possible to hyperextend or tear every ligament imaginable. I was really surprised by that. And correct me if I am wrong but I believe it was one of Dana's standard 3 fight deals for new but veteran fighters.
Thanks.

Just started it about 6 weeks ago. Its just a hobby.
Combat Sambo is different than Sambo (ie, sport sambo). It's Sambo plus striking...with headgear and pads on the legs.
From Wiki:
Although it was originally a single system, there are now four generally recognized versions of Sambo:
Sport Sambo (Borba Sambo) is stylistically similar to amateur wrestling or Judo. The compe ion is similar to Judo, but with some differences in rules, protocol, and uniform. For example, in contrast with Judo, Sambo allows all types of leg locks, while not allowing chokeholds.
Self-defense Sambo, which is similar to Aikijutsu, jujitsu or Aikido, and is based on self-defense application, such as defending against attacks by both armed and unarmed attackers.
Combat Sambo (Russian: Boyevoye Sambo). Utilized and developed for the military, this is arguably the root of Sambo as it is now known, and includes practice with weapons and disarming techniques. Compe ion in combat sambo resembles older forms of judo and modern mixed martial arts, including extensive forms of striking and grappling.
Special Sambo - developed for Army Special Forces and Rapid Reaction Police (Militsija) teams and other law enforcement formations. The "Special Sambo" version differ from team to team due to different tasks and aims, however the base of any special system developed in that field is of course Sambo.

Here is Fedor's CS match from Sept 30, about 3 wks before his Pride Real Deal appearance in the US against Coleman...

Definitely closer to an MMA match than a grappling match...
Here's another of his from 2006...

Just from poking around here the past 10 days it seems you really enjoy sifting through sites for links and stories. I highly recommend one day you make your own site or blog.
Its time consuming but you can put as much or as little into it as you want. some guys like ufcjunkie.com try to make a living off of it. I honestly don't know how that guy has time for a job and personal life, the payoff can't be worth it. I totally respect what he does for that site but it seems like it would dominate his life.
Other guys like mmahq.com (Personally I think mmahq is the better site) just find an interesting story every other day and hope the ads cover their server cost, like me. Although my goal is to try to update mine about 10 times a week.
desflood I really appreciate that. Thank you.
I've thought about it. I do a "MMA Quick Hits" email for my buddies that follow MMA about a once a week. I'm still considering it, but there are so many already it's just as easy to hit them up for info...
I'm impressed that UFC Junkie is now in on the UFC conf calls before events and things like that....
I bookmarked MMAHQ...thanks!
I didn't know he got into press conferences. I have never seen his name on transcripts.Thats awesome though, good for him. Thats quite an accomplishment since Dana is weird about MMA websites.
Do you always post your mmaquick hits here?
