Amazing night of fights. I still can't believe that GSP dominated Kos with takedowns.

That was a more than fair stoppage with Couture and Gonzaga. No question about it.

Best night of fights so far this year. I love me some Randy Couture, but watching him always makes me feel bad. He's in such awesome shape at 44 and I'm in such bad shape at 29...

Roger Huerta - no more hating, Leonard! Pure genius, using the screen to locate Crane's head and pound on it some more. Had all of us here rolling on the floor laughing.

Side note, Joe Stevenson actually had his jaw broken during his bout last night.

Huerta scored a lot of respect in my book last night. But now I want to see him fight a higher caliber fighter. I'm actually looking forward to his next fight which in my guess is around December.

I didn't know that about Joe...I have avoided reading too much about the fights until I see the undercard bouts. Now who will BJ face for the le (assuming sherk gets stripped....the bas )

    ......hmmmm

I wonder how much Randy has in the tank at this level!?!? Maybe 3 fights? 4?! Simply amazing.

And man o man do I hear ya about the guilt desflood...I pounded down queso and battered fish tacos for dinner last night and I feel like such a lazy sack o sh-t today because of all of this. In a bit I am taking out my bike and hopefully ride away some deep seeded shame. lol

I agree with both. The ref kept telling Gonzaga to fight or he would stop the action. It wasn't early, and in fact, I'm surprised it didn't stop sooner. Gonzaga was a mess.

GSP looked like a man posessed last night. Best fight I've seen of him. I'd love to see him kick Matt Sera's ass before the year is over.

Roger's fight killed me. He was watching the megatron and elbowing Crane. I was cracking up. He looked good escaping many submission attempts. I want to watch him fight someone real though, which he should get. Before t he fight, most people wondered who he was. After the fight, most were impressed.

Cote's win was as I said it could be -- a lucky KO

GSP looked like an animal. It was funny to see Kos on his back all night. GSP has great take down defense. I figured Kos would have more takedowns.

Randy looked great in his fight, though. It was a bad call for me.

Overall, great night of fights. Anybody able to find the dark fights? I want to see the Renato, Guida, and Mir fights.

    Leonard

    "Crane by Armbar"

Randy, GSP looked sharp, great win for Guida, much needed wins for Mir, Babalu, Cote.

GSP out wrestling Kos was amazing to me.
Couture's slam on Gabe resembled the one he landed to Chuck in their first bout. Huerta impressed me but i'd like to see him fight a guy like Ken-Flo, Spencer Fisher, or Guida.

I believe it was the Sobral fight. Which we never saw because the UFC wastes so much d-mn time on PPV's.

Randy broke his arm during the fight. Tough as nails.

    ************************************************** ************

What’s happening in the world of mixed martial arts now …

By Loretta Hunt ([email protected]) and Brian Knapp

    COUTURE BREAKS ARM

Even Superman feels it from time to time.

Following yet another feather-in-his-cap performance Saturday at UFC 74 in Las Vegas, real life superhero Randy Couture (16-8), was informed Sunday by doctors that he’d broken his arm during his third round TKO stoppage of Gabriel Gonzaga (8-2).

Couture, 44, sustained the injury Saturday blocking a Gonzaga right high kick with his left forearm, cleanly separating the ulna bone with a “nightstick fracture,” a break common in law enforcement circles. The injury placed the UFC heavyweight champion’s arm in a splint for six weeks. The appendage will not need a cast.

“It’s not displaced, so the doctors think it will reattach in about a week and a half,” said Couture, who embarks on a South African adventure to shoot a leading role in major motion picture “The Scorpion King – The Akkadian” in nearly six weeks. It is believed the injury will not effect Couture’s shooting schedule.

To watch Couture's reaction of his bout and for a re-cap of all the fights, check out The Fight Network's original series "After The Bell" in the homepage's video player.

Apparently Heath bated bablu a bit at the weigh in, then wore a shirt with a mug shot pic of sobral from some arrest...

So Sobral decided it was best to put this to sleep...and did so...Poor sport, but he was out to make a statement.

I had to laugh just a little. I remember seeing that kick and commenting out loud, "Wow, you could break your arm blocking a kick like that. That's what happened to Forrest Griffin."

    I'm a little late...had a business trip to Deleware Sun-Tues...

First off, great night of fights. Second, my picks/bets sucked...

Hugely disappointed in Grove. He should've pushed for a takedown much harder. Damn those punches behind the ear will mess you up...

Glad we got to see Leites...I was impressed with Jensen actually, but he must've learned his armbar defense from Lindland... Leites is a MW to watch in the (near) future...

Crane made it interesting early at least...Huerta showed excellent sub defense and cardio. I thought he might be in trouble a couple times but he powered thru. The end of the fight was just sad to watch...would've been more sad had Huerta not been able to finish Crane off given how gas'd he was. Huerta is still over-rated until he fights a top 20 LW in my opinion. Surely that will happen in his next fight...SURELY!!

Kurt vs Joe was a good fight...no shame in losing to Joe.

Very impressed with GSP. His gameplan was perfect...great to see Koscheck's talk before the fight about their wrestling abilities and then get taken down and held down several times. I think GSP will beat whoever wins Matt vs Matt in Dec...

and Randy...I was very happy that he won...there are so many fights that I'd rather see with him than Gonzaga (I can't pinpoint why, but he annoys the out of me!). Randy is the man. However, it does take a little from the win to have Gonzaga's nose crushed by Randy's head on the slam. I don't know if people are ing or not (I haven't looked at any forums yet) but you could argue it as a no contest (ie, Fedor vs Nog 2). I know they'd never do that to Randy, especially in a le fight...but technically speaking, it was an incidental headbutt that caused significant damage. My thoughts on it are tough ...don't let a guy that's 25 lbs lighter slam you on your back. The broken nose certainly impacted Gonzaga, but he was still throwing kicks and punches that had me fearing a viscious KO. The headkick that Randy took about 30 seconds before the end of the fight looked like an ender live...very impressive that he walked thru it. The broken nose took away from the fight for me...although seeing Gonzaga spitting blood down Randy's back was quite an image...

Downloading the undercard fights now... (have already read the play by play on them)

Roger Huerta - no more hating, Leonard! Pure genius, using the screen to locate Crane's head and pound on it some more. Had all of us here rolling on the floor laughing.

Side note, Joe Stevenson actually had his jaw broken during his bout last night.
My thoughts on Huerta are above...

Stevenson broke his nose actually...which sucks, because it puts a Nov le fight with BJ in jeopardy due to his medical suspension, training time, etc...
    http://ufcjunkie.com/2007/08/28/nsac...again-in-2007/

Lots of injuries at UFC 74...

Score one for the old dudes. Randy Couture is (still) the baddest man on the planet!
He's the man, but he hasn't proven to be the "baddest man on the planet" yet...he has to fight Fedor. You know, the guy that Randy said this about after beating Sylvia...

"Fedor is the best pfp fighter in the world"
    -Randy Couture, UFC HW Champion

I'm afraid Fedor has signed with K-1 Hero's though...maybe we'll at least get to see Fedor vs Barnett, assuming Josh follows him there...

For the record, I'd pull for Fedor if he fought Randy...but if Randy win it'd be cool as too...

i read on sherdog that herb dean stopped another fight early? i heard gonzaga was protecting him self and randy was punching his arm and
    Try...I don't know...watching the fight maybe?

What the was up with that dude choking after the Tap? He should be suspended for a long ass time.
He was docked $25k of his $50k...and everybody boo'd him. Babalu...I've officially turned on him now...

Josh Barnett rains on Couture's parade...kinda have to agree with him, but not because Josh has the belt...he tested positive for roids after beating Randy. But Dana saying that nobody in the world can beat Randy is ridiculous. Maybe he's just trying to sway Fedor to sign...
