I should have been more specific. I am not saying defend the cheating..because you are correct. There were a lot of people saying because of that, their les were tainted. There was no proof that it went on before they got caught. (Although I think they did). Nobody defended Belichick's actions. It was about the overreaction of every other team, especially when they know full well that every other team does the exact same thing. Considering how quickly Goodell swept this under the rug, it sounds to me like he doesn't want a league-wide scandal to develop.
Word out of Boston is that when Belichick gave up all his "material" he also gave Goodell every piece of footage that the Patriots have kept as records of their opposing teams videotaping and cheating as well. Just in case someone like Mangini would be a rat, the Patriots had plenty of dirt on everyone else and unloaded it on Goodell.
