Chris Duel bores the living out of me. To be honest I'm really not to keen on the idea of local sports shows/
Well you might like Chris' style for sports. Who knows.

    In case anyone missed it....

    Chris Duel loses KTSA show
Next month, KTSA's "Chris Duel Show" will be history.

The longtime radio talk host is losing the KTSA afternoon talk show that he's poured his heart and soul into over the years.

BMP Radio has brought in a news-sports figure from a radio station in the Rio Grande Valley -- named Jeff Koch -- to take over that 4-to-7 p.m. show.

Duel is being moved to S.A.'s new ESPN radio affiliate -- 1250 AM, tagged "The Zone" -- which BMP is launching Feb. 4.

Duel will co-anchor the evening show from 5 to 7 p.m. with Jason Minnix, formerly a Saturday morning sports host on KLUP-AM here.

Duel said he'll make the announcement to his listeners at the top of the 5 p.m. hour on his KTSA show today. He'll then bring in Minnix and introduce him.

Mark Landis, BMP Radio's director of programming (for English-language stations here), said the new host will sit in with Duel for a while until Duel waves goodbye to his talk show on Feb. 1.

Listeners can get a feel for Koch, whom Landis describes as having a "fresh and exciting new perspective," when he subs for the vacationing Trey Wares on KTSA's morning show next week. Landis said Koch was an award-winning presence at KURV-AM in McAllen, where he's served as newsman, sportscaster and afternoon drive host.

Landis said Duel's ratings -- which he described as "up and down" -- weren't a factor in the move.

Always a trouper and team player, Duel said of his upcoming KZDC sports gig: "It's a new challenge. I'll greet the new show and new role with enthusiasm and do my best to support it."

Though Duel did his darnedest to sound happy, it's no secret the guy's dream-come-true was becoming part of San Antonio's general talk world of radio eight years ago.

The S.A. native got his big break eight years ago, when he was hired at WOAI. He spent four years as co-host of WOAI's afternoon show, before getting yanked.

KTSA scooped him up as soon as he was free from his six-month non-compete agreement at WOAI. He hosted "The Chris Duel Show" for the past 3 1/2 years.

Mark Landis said Duel is upbeat about his new sports post. He said it's not a demotion for Duel -- though he couldn't comment on whether it would mean a cut in pay for the KTSA talk host.

Upbeat, maybe. Duel always tries to make the most of what comes his way. However, as the radio-TV columnist who's gotten to know Duel's fervor when it comes to politics and other newsy topics, I can guarantee this: Losing his talk forum in a presidential election year must be breaking his heart.

    It's all good.

NateL is a fantastic guy, as is Peter, Mouse and pretty much everyone in here.

Kori, I'm a huge fan of yours, as you know. I told you years ago that you should host your own radio or TV show (and I sense you will).

Since the word is out there, yes, I'm headed to ESPN Radio 1250 The Zone.

Unlike other sportstalk shows in this town, we will consciously and overtly partner with you here at SpursTalk.com

I honestly believe that THIS is the best sports board in Texas. I would be a fool not to co-opt as many of you who want to participate in the ESPN broadcasts as possible.

We will be rolling out some amazing interactive innovations that no one is doing anywhere in sports radio. It will truly be a radio station by and for the sports fan. That's what I'm most excited about.

    More info to follow.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting. As you know (since we have been talking about it on and off for four years ), I would love to work with you on something, maybe on a weekly basis. Nothing that I'd have to actually go into work on a daily basis or anything I think you and Jason will really flourish. I know how much you loved your KTSA show, but I'm sure you can turn this into a fantastic opportunity.

Thanks for thinking of including SpursTalk and its fab posters.

    Talk to you soon.

    --Kori

Duel and Minnix are both good people and have a passion for sports. Honestly, I never listen to radio but this pairing might make me actually tune in. Duel has been a SpursTalk supporter since day 1 and him and Minnix have good Spurs knowledge. Should be a success

    P.S.

Even though I'm not a big fan of Lundy, gotta give him props for posting in this thread.

Like timvp I don't listen to the radio either. But a possible association with spurs talk would make me a listener.

First item is to begin the show at 4 pm....3 pm if you want to compete on a level field with the other sports talk show.

Including Spurstalk in your local sports show seems smart to me. Nowhere do you get th breathe of sportsnews that's available here. MMA, Boxing, Nascar, Spurs, Cowboys, Big 12 sports, UTSA and SWT sports, etc... Good fresh takes are here!!!

btw, kori make the check payable to Pete H.

I like how every new radio show promises to bring something "new" to the table, yet never fully delivers.

But best of luck to you.

How were Taylor's numbers this last ratings book?

that station needs to do something drastic to save itself.

I'm not in SA, so I don't know how bad off the station may be. I agree Duel would do well to have the somewhat built-in audience coming from ST right off the bat. But it won't work so well to run in members from the board to take up space on the show. Some may work if they're presented well enough, but most listeners don't want to listen to the average joe talk.

Listeners obviously love to interact and want to feel as much of a part of the show as possible. With that, the show would need to make itself available to the audience without having them interrupt his talents on the air (such as emails, texts, voicemail line, call of the day, etc.).

How has Taylor been doing, though? Still a bitter pill to swallow?

I think you'll be surpised the following ST can bring. Nevertheless, Duel will bring in the person looking for local talent and Paul Alexander brings way more than Taylor IMO.

taylor IMHO isn't very good. Of course the Dallas thing is weird, but there are other things he says which makes him even weirder. for instance, he continues to tell people how old he is and that he's over the hill. The dude is 32 yrs old, give me a break.

I have no doubts about the following. I'm just saying it might not be the best idea to make the phone lines their playground by always having a regular listener/messageboard savant as the voice of criticism for the Spurs play. You guys will all be a perfect accompaniment if Duel kicks off the show in grand fashion.

if it turns into the spurstalk click then the show will be doomed. I don't think that will happen.

I've always thought it would be VERY wise to work enlist the help of SpursTalk.

Let me do my best Coach Talk here......(Ahem....on the podium)

I think it's great that ESPN is coming to town. The more people we can get interested into the medium of Sports Radio the better. San Antonio is a growing town, and we here at the Ticket 760 are excited about this addition to the AM Dial.

Now please eat at Goomba's today.

    Thank you for your support.....

    Best of luck Senor Duel.
By the way, when's that lunch?

It's ok to plug a restaurant if they pay to have commercials on your show.
But to act as though you wouldn't eat anywhere else but Goomba's...bla.. bla.. bla.....is so cheesy and predictable. And makes the everyday listener not want to eat there ever.
