Last I checked the Spurs still had Manu Ginobli and Tony Parker in 2003, they didn't rebuild so much as retool their bench players. That is much easier to do, there is no shortage of veteran ring chasers in the NBA.

And since when does rebuilding = winning a championship? All I'm saying is the Lakers are back in contention after 4 short years, there is no denying that fact. A team consisting of Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, and Kobe Bryant is going to do some damage when healthy and fully integrated together. The best part about it is all the core players are young enough to play at a high level for the next 5 years, at which time the young stars (Bynum) can start shouldering the load.
And, last time I checked, the Lakers still have Kobe Bryant, and got Derek Fisher and Phil Jackson back. Not so much a rebuild for the Lakers then either. And, if rebuilding doesn't involve winning a championship, I'm sure there have been quite a few other examples of quicker rebuilds in the "sports history."

There is a thread for every Lakers loss because the seedings are so tight, that every game affects the Spurs. That is why. Of course we are going to be happy when the Lakers or any top Western conference teams lose-it means we are a step closer to getting a top seed. If you're not happy when the Spurs lose or another Western conference playoff team loses, something is wrong with you. It has nothing to do with the Lakers' rings or how good their franchise has been, so don't flatter yourself with that.

Itz funny suns fans are talking crap yes you have beat us the last 2 years ...but yall have been to what 2 NBA FINALS in history and STILL havent won one?! Spurs are the ONLY defending champs and until they are beaten their fans can talk ...everyone else is trying to get WHAT they have ...the thing about my Lakers we won inthe 50's, the 70's the 80's and the 2000's we may get down but the cream always rises to the top ... celts and Lakers are at the highest peak, Bulls one notch down though the Spurs are just below that (but closing fast)...after that the Pistons, Rockets, Sixers mini dynasties
But only the Lakers and Celts reign spans decades and generations ...

I'd like to see how many teams in the NBA can lose their starting C, PF, backup C, and best defensive perimeter player and still go into UTAH and DAL and whoop ass. The Lakeshow hasn't missed a beat all year with all the injuries they've had, a sign of a truly deep and dangerous team.

Being happy about it and making a thread about it is two different things. Especially when these threads are dismissing the lakers because of the regular season loss. I don't recall any lakers fans making threads on the Spurs when they went thru their 4 game losing streak. Probably because their loss means nothing in the overall picture. Which is to win the NBA le. I really could care less about the #1 seed, the only thing I care about is the Lakers being healthy.

Look at the Laker roster the last year they had Shaq and compare it to now. Outside of Kobe Bryant every single position has changed. That's a complete rebuild from top to bottom. And rebuilding has never meant winning a championship , it means getting your team back into contention. For sakes are you really this dumb?

Stop whining about it? Wtf are you talking about? It just goes against everything that this forum has been based on for the last few years. Regular season losses means absolutely nothing in the big scheme of things. Sure if you're concerned about your teams ability to win it all, seedings will mean everything. The Lakers have won back to back les without being the #1 seed, so it means absolutely nothing! My motto, to be the best, you have to beat the best. So bring it, whoever the opponent will be!

Buddy..were you a Lakers fan back in the 1950's? I mean it is so stupid of you to say look at what the Lakers have accomplished back in the 50's, 70's 80's etc. And Um they started winning les the Minneapolis Lakers.

I do give the Lakers credit for their 3 peat and being a great team, but don't act like a ing dip and tell me talk to Mavs Fan and Suns fan because of what your team accomplished back in the day before the 3 peat.

I haven't minimized the Lakers les at all, I just don't try to live in the past like you are trying to do! Bring up 14 les considering 5 of them were won in Minnesota with a whooping 8 teams in the entire league
That still makes 9 les you , which is more than any other team in the NBA outside of BOS (who won the majority of their les in the 50's and 60's as well with limited compe ion). The Lakers have managed to win les in the NBA in just about every decade it's existed. Participating in half of all NBA Finals is a mind-boggling accomplishment. The Lakers >>>> Spurs as a franchise.

Oh I agree. Some people in this thread forget that the Lakers are without two starters, which happen to be two very good frontcourt players. It's not surprising that the Lakers lost last night and will probably lose 1 or 2 more games before Gasol comes back. It also wouldn't be surprising if they lost more because Bynum still hadn't come back. A lot of Spurs fans on this board like to use 1 game as an example representing a team as a whole, yet they criticize opposing teams' fans that do the same to us. One loss against the Warriors without Gasol and Bynum doesn't mean the Lakers suck against the Warriors or will lose to them in the playoffs.

No, but I have been a lakers fan since the 80's. That's 9 les that I have witnessed and 9 parades I have attended. Just because you're wet behind the ears and only have been a fan since 2003 you have no room to tell me what's relevent and what is not!

That's the only point I was making on this thread. I understand that the Spurs and Lakers are competing for the top spot, but I would bet that neither team cares that much about it. I wouldn't be surprised it the lakers lose tonight to the warriors but I would still feel that they would win with just one healthy center.

Manu was torching Ariza a year or two ago when he was a Knick, and all of a sudden he's the new Bowen?
Bynum had a nice stretch early in the regular season and has not played in months, and now he's your defensive anchor and Duncan stopper?

Are you guys *really* banking your entire championship there?

Nobody said that Bynum would stop Duncan, at least I didn't. To beat the spurs would take a total team effort.

I agree that the Lakers would beat the Warriors in a series if healthy, as long as you don't play their style of ball or they don't shoot insane %'s for the series. But please, PLEASE stop gloating about the team rebuilding so fast. Just this summer 80% of the people in LA, including KOBE who wanted out, thought the team was doing a horrible job and wasting his prime years. They suddenly didn't start doing a good job because Memphis chose to give away a stud PF for nothing. But hey, luck counts too and now the team is in prime position to do some damage.

that just goes to show how ignorant laker fans are, people never paid attention to the warriors for 13 years so they assumed because they were bad that they had no fanbase....its not the case...even with them being the worst team in the league we still would draw 16,000 per home game. We had a very frustrated fanbase , sure, rightfully so but we never actually left them. We came out in numbers to boo week asses like mike dungleavy. Granted we are drawing way more fans now that we are good, but that will happen with any franchise.

Most faker fans are very smug, in fact they are so smug all the smugg that seeps out of their asses at the games blocks the light from shinning over the stands, thats why its so dark!
