We lucked out with this storm. It picked a damn good place to come ashore. I know there are certain people there, and I know there is going to be a big impact, but the 3rd strongest storm in Atlantic Basin history won't go down as one of the more destructive ones.

Well, barring post landfall floods if it stalls, but all things considereded this is possibly one of the better ways this scenario could have played out.

Not sure which track the Weather Channel is following but they have Rita coming over us here in SA by Wedensday. Honestly I don't think anyone has a clue as to what she will do after getting into land, but I thought I would just mention what I was hearing.

I heard that on the Weather Channel too, that they said it would hit near SA by Wed.

They are following the model runs from earlier today. But the only one that has deviated from that is the last GFS. It is really hard to tell though.

Man, the power of these storms never fail to amaze. The KSAT coverage is awesome.

I am amazed at the turn this thing took. It could have dealt a critical blow to the Houston refinery area.

The only area of concern is Port Arthur, but so far it looks like Rita is giving Louisiana a second enema.

So all those folks in Austin who cleared the shelves of water, canned food, bread, ammunition and toilet paper opened their bunker doors to the most pleasant weather in a month.

Here's to you, Mr. Panicked Toilet Paper Hoarder....

f'ing Hurricane Rita cost me alot of time, money, stress, my car.. and that didn't even do anything here.

let's see, Wednesday I leave early from the Red Cross and H.Katrina people.. my mom has a fit and demands me to leave Houston and pretty much makes me feel like if I don't leave then I don't care about the family, etc. It is hard for me living here on my own with my dog, with a crappy car, I seriously didn't think I'd make it all the way to San Antonio. I live in Pasadena, TX so when I saw we would be under Mandatory Evacuation starting the next day, I pack up some things and I leave to go put gas in my car.

oh yeah, there is NO GAS TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE. I go to store to store and find those stupid bags covering the gas pumps or all the prices taken off the gas signs. I finally find one with a long ass line and it's 3 bux a gallon. Takes me about an hour and $50 bux to get gas in my car.

I then take off to what I think is gonna be a normal road trip to S.A... almost six hours later, at 1:30 a.m... I WAS STILL IN FRIGGIN' HOUSTON! The traffic was unbearable, and I had been up since 4:00 am the previous day and was already falling asleep at the wheel. I couldn't even exit because SO Many cars were on the freeway AND the feeder roads. Finally I was able to get out and I went to the first hotel I saw. I had already been crying out of frustration and the hotel actually had a room but said only for one or two nights. they charged me $100 and that is where I stayed Wednesday night/Thursday early morning. The next day my sister had found me a place to stay, at her friends house in Katy, TX which is around where I was at. I was already in Katy, but to get from the hotel, to his house took me about 2 1/2 hours. Again gridlock. It was soo frustrating, it was hot, and slow, and I seriously wanted to get out of my car and beat something up. my little dog was dying of heat and thirst and I couldn't even find a stupid corner store that was open, wasn't already filled with people, or had any drinks. I finally found one that we had to form a line just to get in and they let us in two at a time.

I stayed at said friends house Thursday night but couldn't handle it there. Seven kids there, we all were in one room, and I had my chihuahua that doesnt take well to strangers and kids, let alone strange kids that all wanted to tease my dog. I left on Friday and headed back towards Houston, by this time the Hurricane was a Cat 3 so I wasn't scared anymore. My car starts to break down on the freeway so I exit the first chance I get an coincidentally end up at the SAME HOTEL I had stayed at Wednesday night. My car died right at the entrance. I call up my boss and he and a worker comes and pushes my car into a parking space, and they pick me up and we head back to Houston.

I spend Friday night and Saturday with my friends and boss and we go through this "Hurricane" together. All it was was strong winds and not even alot of rain.

Now I'm finally back freakin home and I just got back from getting my car towed all the way from Katy over here, $120 bux, not to mention whatever it's gonna cost to fix it. Right now I have no car to drive, like it even matters, since there is absolutely no gas around here anyway and most all the stores are still closed.

Before anyone says it, yes I'm thankful that the storm weakened, yes I'm grateful I'm alive,....but screw you Rita, seriously.

Dude that seriously sucks ass, I'm so sorry that you had to endure all that crap. For someone as caring and good as you seem to be, you definitely didn't derserve all that to happen to you. I hope things start to look brighter for you in the near future!

I have friends in Beaumont who are now forced to be gypsies for 2 to 4 weeks, since Beaumont is now cordoned and closed, prohibiting anybody from returning because there are 1000's of trees to be cleared, 100s of tons of garbage to be collected, no water, no sewage, and no electricity, whose distribution network has 20+ serious breaks. Same situation for Port Arthur, Vidor, Orange, etc. The hotel and restaurant bills are killing them.
