A DPOY is not a wasted number one pick.
That would be better than complete bust for sure.
Gobert would still be a wasted 1st pick though, and he has to bulk up to play like a defensive center consistently.
Still have to see how Miller and Scoot work out.
A DPOY is not a wasted number one pick.
Gobert had 6 First Team All D selections, 3 DPOYS, 4 All NBA selections, and 3 ASG selections. You’d have to go back to AD in 2012 to have a #1 overall pick put up that kind of bling. Having him become a modern Gobert would not be a wasted pick.
A French channel just aired a very interesting interview of Wembanyama this evening. It lasts 40 minutes and many topics are discussed, such as his mindset, the influence of his parents, but also his daily routine. He wakes up at 6:30 and is a the practice at 7:50, saying that normally the practice starts at 10:00 but he wants to be there all the time and the coaching staff always forbid him to go to the gym all the time. He also talks about his nutrition habits now that he’s in SA.
So yeah, that’s in French, so many won’t understand what they say, but you can really see that the kid is clever, he speaks like a veteran at 19. Impressive…

They just had to give him the tiniest hand mic possible, lol.
Maybe it’s the whiskey but I had tears in my eyes watching that. We are god damn blessed.
Marcus Camby says otherwise
But it wouldn’t help us in any way shape or form. This isn’t the 2010s anymore. Your big man has to be a threat to score. There’s a reason why Gobert teams get trounced in the playoffs. You pic n roll him to death and defend him with a small. If Wemby is Gobert then we are ed.
Lmao I'd draft Wemby number one this year purely on defense alone. Yall are gimps.
Some people have a very selective memory regarding #1 picks and forget Anthony Bennett, Greg Oden, Kwame brown, , Markelle Fultz, Michael Olowokandi... were #1 picks. You shouldn't necessarily expect MJ or Kareem every year. If your guy is a pernenial all star, that's already a sucess.
Sure it would. Our worst aspect last year was defense, and he’s going to be All Multiverse at that. This also isn't the 90s. Almost no contending teams lean into their bigs for scoring. It’s guard/wing league now.
Speaking of Gobert, that 2013 draft was dreadful. The first 9 picks were awful other than Victor Oladipo, who was good until injuries got him. CJ McCollum at 10, then the rest of the first round was mostly crap. Other than Giannis, Gobert would be the first pick in a redraft.
Thank you for the link. I would probably never have stumbled across it. FWIW, I had to use a VPN to watch it. It gave a generic error message when I tried to watch it directly from the US.
I thought about that indeed, sorry…
Thanks. It was fine. I have a VPN subscription just for that kind of thing. It was more of an explanation for anyone else who got the cryptic error.
It really was a great interview. He is much more relaxed in French, as you would expect.
It’s premature, but will Wemby eventually replace Timmy as Spurs best player ever? And even goat PF? Ir would he be playing 5 eventually and surpass Jabbar? It’s silly but just a thought.
he may very well be a better scorer but Timmy holds the weight of 5 championships over wemby
For now. While also Wemby may do something that Timmy have never done, that’s string championships together. A long way to go. It’s just healthy comparison.
What struck me the most is how mature he appears when he speaks. You have way older guys who aren’t able to speak like that. You see that he thinks a lot, about so many things. He already has a great basketball IQ.
Highly doubtful. Tim is a top 5ish player ever. That is an extremely high bar for Wemby to clear
I thought the same thing about Tim early in his career (in respect to David).
I am interested in whether or not they can improve Wemby's shot like they did for Kawhi, Vassel, KJ, and are attempting with Sochan.
I hear ya. I would have no complaints if this is a legit argument in 10 years
