FBI made a ton more edits to water down James Comey's statement on Clinton email probe
The FBI did far more editing of former FBI Director James Comey’s statement on their probe of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s private email server than previously known, edits that erased serious concerns the FBI initially had, according to a key senator.
In do ents provided by Sen. Ron Johnson, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, there were three major edits to Comey’s statement that seemed to absolve Clinton.
The changes included reducing Clinton’s “culpability” in the scandal, removing references to the intelligence community’s role in the probe, and downgrading the likelihood that spies had penetrated Clinton’s private server stuck in the basement of her New York home.
Johnson is now demanding that everybody connected to the process of writing and editing Comey’s statement be identified. “We are asking for everyone that edited the speech,” said a committee official.
He is also looking into the pro-Clinton, anti-President Trump bias in the probe.
To show the changes in the statement, Johnson produced a copy of Comey’s original statement with the edits that he planned to give in May 2016 closing out his investigation. They are dramatic and show the FBI went soft on Clinton.
Initially, the only major edit revealed was that FBI insiders cut out the reference to Clinton being “grossly negligent.” But it went much further.
For example, they cut out Comey’s initial plan to refer to the “sheer volume” of email on Clinton’s server. Johnson said that was in an effort to “deemphasize the amount of classified information” held on Clinton’s private server.
Johnson’s letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray also cited another major edit. “The edited version also contained a sentence that read, “This is especially concerning because all of these emails were housed on servers not supported by full-time security staff, like those found at the departments and agencies of the U.S. government.” Comey did not use that sentence in his final statement.
Comey was also planning to give credit to the intelligence community for helping in the Clinton probe, but that was cut out.
And there were edits, said Johnson, to “downgrade the likelihood that hostile actors penetrated Secretary Clinton’s private server.”
Before: “We also assess that Secretary Clinton’s use of a private email domain was both known by a large number of people and readily apparent. Given the combination of factors, we assess it is reasonably likely that hostile actors gained access to Secretary Clinton’s private email account.”
After: “Given that combination of factors, we assess it is possible that hostile actors gained access to Secretary Clinton’s personal email account.”

I wonder if Chris even knows that crafting such a letter and then double down by doing a press consference is really really rare and not something the FBI does when they dont intend to indict someone. They just close the case.
Yet Chris is complaining they weren't harsh enough. lol
I understand it gets rating as HRC gives the legion of misogynist whities a focus for their angst but she is not politically relevant anymore.
She has no office, the dem platform was making concessions to Sanders, and the DNC has been purged of her allies and scions in this past election. If the conservative echo chamber wants to waste time energy, and political capital beating her up then more power to them. She doesn't matter anymore.
Putting words into my mouth. Shameful and SAD!
Typical rhetoric from the Left. "She lost." "She doesn't matter anymore" "She's irrelevant" It's like the compulsive liar trying to distance themselves from the crime scene.
Good stuff, John, but I’m glad the public got to read those texts.
Maybe the texts were hacked by Russians.
Maybe Trump should get someone to fire Mueller.
Why? Mueller is doing a good job exposing the corruption within his own organization. Better to let it play out and stack up the evidence. Trump and Sessions didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday.
I think Mueller is doing a good job, so far.
Rut-roh Raggy!
Former Clinton Strategist Thinks Hillary and Democrats Peddled the Trump Dossier to FBI
A new Harvard Harris Poll reveals that a majority of Americans believe the special counsel investigating supposed Trump-Russian “collusion” has a conflict of interest, and a former Clinton strategist says the country is facing a “crisis in public confidence” over it.
Mark Penn told Fox News’s Martha MacCallum the response to the poll shows “there is a crisis in public confidence in both the FBI and [special counsel] Mueller."
The pollster and former Bill Clinton strategist wrote in The Hill that people who don’t like Donald Trump believe “these investigations have veered off course” and that the FBI has gone rogue:
Our polling in November showed that 61 percent say the funding of the salacious GPS Fusion do ent should be investigated. Fifty-eight percent say that if Hillary Clinton and the Democrats funded the work, it could not be used by law enforcement.
Sixty-three percent of polled voters believe that the FBI has been resisting providing information to Congress on the Clinton and Trump investigations. This is a remarkable finding for an agency whose new head said a few days ago that the agency was in fine shape. No, it isn’t.
Fifty-four percent say special counsel Robert Mueller has conflicts of interest that prevent him from doing an unbiased job,
In The Hill, Penn suggested the Democrats “peddled” the salacious Trump dossier about this specific issue. Real Clear Politics reports this is how it went down when MacCallum asked Penn about it:
“You also suggest that the dossier may have been peddled to the FBI, what you mean by that?” FOX News host Martha MacCallum asked the former Clinton insider.
“Well, I think you see here, meetings that were held with FBI officials, the wife of one of the FBI officials was paid for [by Fusion GPS]. What I'm saying is theories that seemed far-fetched two months ago that this dossier was paid for by the Clinton campaign by the Democrats, peddled to the FBI, and then used to start the whole Russia investigation even though it has tremendous amounts of clearly false information. I would have said that was preposterous. But now that these facts emerge, the public is saying maybe this is true,” Penn said.
Penn says the poll was taken before the latest bombs revelations of text messages between an FBI investigator and his mistress discussing with the FBI Deputy Director “Andy” McCabe having an "insurance policy” in case Trump won.
Penn wrote in The Hill he thinks he knows what that “insurance policy” was:
Former FBI Director James Comey, in showing the do ent to President Trump, didn’t tell him that it was funded by the Democrats because it was all an attempt to entrap him anyway — the insurance policy. A few months ago this certainly seemed far-fetched but today, with each new fact and with the failure of the officials to respond meaningfully to Congress, there is certainly more evidence behind these theories.
To top it off, most Americans now also see that the treatment being given to Trump aides is far harsher than occurred with Clinton’s aides, despite their being caught in obvious lies, claiming they did not even know about the email server.
Penn said the “crisis of public confidence” seen in this latest Harvard/Harris poll could escalate into a full-blown “cons utional crisis” unless someone has ”the courage to cleans it up.”

Dim. She doesn't hold office. She did not get to dictate the platform during the convention. In the past DNC election her people were replaced with Sanders or Obama people.
I get that she is relevant to you but your party is not going to be able to use any election in the future as a referendum over her like you were in 2016. It's been a year and you and your mouth breathing brethren have no ability to move on. Have fun losing the next election.
Great minds think alike.
Here's Why Trump Would Be Making A HUGE Mistake In Killing The Mueller Probe
Should President Trump kill or impede the Mueller investigation?
The calls to do so have been growing louder after the revelation of new text messages between FBI top agent Peter Strzok and his FBI paramour, Lisa Page. As I wrote two days ago, Strzok’s anti-Trump texts aren’t particularly troublesome — government agencies have opinions on politicians — but one text regarding an “insurance policy” in case of a Trump win certainly is. Here’s the text message:
I want to believe the path you threw out for consideration in [deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe’s] office that there's no way he gets elected -- but I'm afraid we can't take that risk. It's like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before you're 40…
That sounds like a setup. And Strzok was both involved in the Hillary Clinton email investigation and initiation of the Trump-Russia probe — plus he was part of Mueller’s investigative team until the text messages were unearthed.
Now we’re hearing rumors that the Trump administration might fire McCabe:
And, of course, President Trump signaled this morning that he might pardon former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, which would effectively end any cooperation between Flynn and the FBI.
So, should Trump move here?
No, he most certainly should not.
Why should he? He’s winning. Right now, a majority of the American public believes that Mueller has a conflict of interest thanks to his relationship with former FBI director James Comey. That’s thanks to a bevy of stories about members of the Mueller team with serious connections to high-ranking Democrats and serious bias against Trump. Furthermore, every charged leveled so far has nothing to do with election collusion, including Flynn’s guilty plea. In other words, this investigation’s legitimacy may already be fatally wounded.
In 1998, the Ken Starr investigation was fatally wounded publicly before it reached a conclusion. By February 1998, 62% of Americans thought Bill Clinton was hiding something, but 42% of Americans had an unfavorable opinion of Starr, as opposed to 25% who had a positive opinion. Fully 58% of Americans thought Starr should stop his investigation. That’s even though Starr did his due diligence and demonstrated that the president had perjured himself, a fact Clinton admitted by August 1998. A discredited investigation does little or no damage to a sitting president, no matter the outcome.
Trump should remember that. Clinton didn’t just survive impeachment. It drove his popularity skyward. Trump doesn’t have to stop Mueller. Mueller has done a bang-up job stopping himself.

Calling me dim and mouthbreather doesn't elevate your argument. It only cements your status as an angry Liberal who prefers feelings over facts.
I called you dim because you could not grasp what I was meaning about how she was no longer involved in the DNC. If you want to continue to deflect from that fine but this is boring.
They're all protecting one person.

People in power and relevancy are protecting somone who's not and basically put out to pasture?
Not very smart.
The rabbit hole goes deep.
So you think the Clintons have no power? Odd that Bill met with Lynch on the tarmac, seeing how he has no power.
