I don't normally do white or chardonnay either, but if I can find it I'll cook something white-wine-appropriate do drink it with. BTW, Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc is really great for cooking most seafood with - dry with lots of citrus - very tasty.

Brunello di Montalcino by Banfi is by far my favorite. I don't like spending $60 on a bottle of vino, but this is worth it.

I fantasize about the day when I can afford a $60 bottle of wine. It won't be while I'm working for AmeriCorps. This is why I stick to more New World wines - better QPR.

I really would love to get into Italian wine, though - any recs for less than $30?

If you ever get downtown to el mercado.. there is this woman selling what she says is knockoffs for like 40-120/each.. they are REAL.. they fell of a truck somewhere.. she won't tell you that cus she doesn't want to get shut down.. but she has Coach, LV (i HATE LV but some like it), Prada and occasionally others...

Not really, but it sounds like you'd be a Barolo fan. Most Barolos start between $30-40 though.

Stick to reds from either the Tuscan or Piedmont region to start. You will not be disappointed.
