I'm a physician who does many nasal surgeries. The nose has small arteries that are much larger and more superficial than other areas of the face. I think the one that Nash had severed in the collision was just not going to stop without several minutes of him lying down with direct pressure on the area followed by cauterizing or tying it off and s ching up the laceration. The "styptic" they were using is just inadequate for such an injury, and the small band-aids were a joke.
It was a travesty that he was allowed to play for so long with that amount of bleeding. The safety of the other players is also a consideration. Nobody suspected that Magic Johnson was HIV+
