Jerome Kersey was a crafty defensive veteran witha good baseline jump shot.

Think of a player on the team that STARTS thats already like that.

TPark- I know what Kersey did for the 99 Spurs. I am hoping big dog can still hit those jumpers.

Well, at the very least he isn't a Hedo Turkoglu. If he's open, he's gonna shoot. He is similar to Ron Mercer but Robinson has three point range.

He doesn't have to play great 'd'. He just hast to buy into the system.

name me the defensive big men that he played with

Why do you guys always act like Pop is a miracle worker?

Wasn't he going to turn Brent Barry into a defensive player too for the same reasons? Ron Mercer? Etc?

Did playing with Shaq turn Glenn Rice into a defensive player?

What the ? Aren't we already a godmanned good neough defensive team as it ing is? What do you want, to hold a ing team scoreless? Aint going to happen...defense isn't the ing problem, it's not why this team loses... ty offense is. You can't ing have Michael Cooper or Dikembe Mutombo at everyu #@%@$%#@$% position.

BTW, I dont think Robinson was in Philly when Larry was there.

I think he was there last year, and it was Chris FOrd, and others.
You might be right about that...maybe it was that they traded for him before Brown left for Detroit or something...In any case, I don't think you can judge this guy by his Philly year, AI seems to have a lot of issues with scoring forwards.

    ^^^ Exactly.

One thing that DOES bother me, is there is a reason New Orleans didn't want him.

The Hornets, I mean, thats a little worrisome.
TPark did he even report? Maybe he pulled a Jim Jackson? Pure speculation though

I don't think Barry and Robinson will get too many minutes together.

Not a bad list of acheivements for a guy we picked up no strings attached:

*In 2003-04, his first season with the 76ers, missed 40 games (37 due to injury; three due to NBA suspension) including the last 20 games. [Well that part sucks.]
*On March 6, 2002 vs. the LA Clippers, Robinson became the second leading scorer in franchise history, scoring career point 11,596 to pass Sidney Moncrief.
    * He became the 159th player in NBA history to pass the 12,000 career point mark in the season finale at Detroit on April 17, 2002.
    * Two-time All-Star (2000 and 2001) registered eight points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot for the 2001 Eastern Conference All-Star Team.
    * Scored 28 points on 2/13/01 vs. Philadelphia to become the fifth player in Bucks history to score 10,000 career points
    * Passed Junior Bridgeman (9,892 points) for fifth on the Bucks' all-time list in points scored when he had 25 at Minnesota on 1/29/01>
    * Also passed Ricky Pierce (1,749 FTM) for fifth on the Bucks' all-time list in free throws made when he shot 9-for-13 from the line at Minnesota on 1/29/01
    * Passed Terry mings for seventh on the Bucks' all-time list in field goals made vs. Detroit on 1/27/01
    * Named NBA Player of the Week (Dec. 11-17) after averaging 28.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg as the Bucks went 3-1
    * Moved into seventh on the Bucks' all-time list in minutes played vs. Orlando on 12/26/00
    * Scored a career-high 45 points vs. Golden State on 2/25/01, the first Buck to score that many points since Ricky Pierce scored 45 on 12/5/89

    * Led the Bucks in scoring (18.4 ppg, 19th in the NBA) and ranked 2nd on the team in free-throw percentage (.870, 7th) and rebounds (5.9 rpg) in 1998-99
    * Scored a game-high 26 points and matched his career-high with 17 rebounds in a 79-75 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on 4/23/99
    * Closed the 1997-98 season as the Bucks' all-time franchise leader in three-point attempts (776), 2nd in three-pointers made (264) and 11th in scoring (6,412 points)

wow that is a long time. I will be heading to Tuscon AZ for the next couple weeks. I have to call on some customersdown in Nogales. Is it windy and dusty in AZ right now? It is crazy how so many people on the board are in AZ.
This trade is a great idea. he can come in and give 5-10 very productive minutes. Last time I checked the spurs usually have a 5-10 minute lull at some point in the game.

Yeah...like Duncan and Robinon hid the deficiencies of Elliott against Kobe in 2001....

    Settle down.

BTW, Pop is a miracle worker.

He took some kid that couldn't play for the freakin Nets, and made him an NBA Finals champion.
Jax always had offensive ability...and he wasn't that great of a defender here...he was just better than poor ole Smitty. Jax lacked discipline...and I do give Pop credit for instilling that in him...

Robinson just sucks at D...some guys just ing do...they just move slower on D and don't have the mindset to play it...that doesn't mean they can't help your team immensely...

Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Barkley were 3 guys who sucked on defense....

The Suns went from lottery team to best record in the NBA by adding the worst defender in the NBA.

Took a undersized power forward, and made him a god among the Sequ's of the world.
Gave him a chance...what he didn't give him was his drive and determination.

Right...and if he's half the player he once was he's about 70 times a better player than Dion Glover.

    Seriously wtf!

I thought G-Love was working out pretty well here...then they just go and throw him out the door and sign Glenn Robinson?! Why is this happening so damn late in the season?! This is crap, and I'm bitter!
Dion Glover was another guy who hustled like but couldn't contribute offensively. Whottt is right (I know I'm a newbie, but that felt wierd); we need a player who can come off the bench and score. As far as defense, here's a small silver lining. Bruce Bowen sits when the guy he's guarding (usually the other team's cheif offensive threat) sits. If Robinson's in shape, and can shake enough rust off to hit some shots, I suspect we'll have a guy who can give us a plus points situation in the minutes he'll play.

No one would've stopped Kobe that year, but I think Bowen would've slowed him down more than a 1 legged Sean Elliott did.

Come on, Duncan Nesterovic will get his guys funnelled to them.

Thats the scheme. Funnel all players to the baseline and let the bigs shut em down.

Settle down whott, Im not saying hes gonna be Bruce Bowen numero dos, but hes not gonna be Ron Mercer either.

But whottt, to win championships you HAVE to play SOME defense, you can't just discount it totally.

If you think you can, you didn't pay attention in 03.

When is the last time the Spurs had 3 current or former all stars on roster (99, Robinson, Duncan and Elliott, now Duncan, this other Robinson and Manu).

More I think about it a great pickup.

I'm not expecting any defense. I'm going to give him the Chuck Person treatment -- if he hits shots, I'm happy.

    P.S.

I find it odd that Whottt thinks dog fighting > domestic violence. If he hit his wife or girlfriend, he's lower s then a guy who makes his dog fight.
