    Your new avatar is ready.
Nah, you guys abandoned any semblance of respect for personal liberty once you discovered the race and political leanings of the homeowner and taxpayer.

Never talk of freedom or liberty again. You simply don't believe in them.

    Just curious.

The other two officers on the scene (one hispanic, one black) -- we're they also being racists?

Law enforcement officers make assumptions all the time. They have to. Their lives depend on it.

    You're wrong.

    Caps Lock won't change that.
You dont even remember what you were originally arguing. You claimed the police were "utterly wrong" which I quickly debunked.

I dont know why you got side-tracked with this "assumptions" game. The point is the cops cant be "wrong" when they werent claiming there was a burglary to begin with. Someone else did. Its their job to investigate which you cant seem to understand.

Ironic, considering the same people would be all up in arms about Iran and China's treatment of citizens.
I wonder what would happen if a Chinese citizen started screaming at local chinese police who were investigating a possible break-in.

Something tells me it wouldnt be misdemeanor charges that would eventually be dropped and a couple of hours cooling off in a cell.

I'd love to watch Mr. Gates go through airport security.

Can you imagine if they picked HIM for one of those random searches?

I specifically said there was no evidence their actions were racially motivated.

    Their actions were simply wrong.

    Just leave.

    I do. It was fun.

No point in arguing the case itself when there's an obvious core disagreement. You see no problem with the cop's arrest because you feel it was completely full of merit. Others look at the exact same cir stances and see police exercising power they should not. Its a fundamental difference and no amount of message board arguing is going to change that.

the prof should have been calm, but the cop shouldn't have arrested him just because he wasn't, and obama should have never said a word about it

The police were utterly wrong in their assumption that a burglary was in progress, because they were following police procedure based on the assumption that a burglary was in process.

The whole incident was recorded by the officer's open mic. I'm betting he's speaking from a position of knowing what the happened at the house.

Professor head is a racist asshole and picked a fight simply because the officer was white. A normal person would have been appreciative of the fact a neighbor called the police because they thought he was being burglarized.

Not this prick. He decided to make it a racial issue and create a disturbance, breach the peace, and break the law by committing disorderly conduct.

    is this intentional irony?

    All true.

Why did it make it to the level of national media attention? I'm sure the cops didn't hunt down the nearest talking heads.

At some point, Gates crossed a line. Im not sure if it was "I'll see your momma on the porch" line or something else, but officer determined he was being disorderly (who can blame him with lines like that).

The "all sides were wrong" argument is okay...but I dont agree with it. At some point, people have to realize that a cop is only going to take so much before he decides youre being disorderly. Its a minor offense (in this case it was even dropped) but it is the law.

Youre SUPPOSE to cooperate with polce. We state so in our freaking laws!!

When all the information has come forward and if it appears that Mr. Gates is at fault, don't you think he has done a serious misservice to minorities who have legitimate cases against the police?

Kinda like the whole Duke lacrosse fiasco?

it means those other 2 minorities behaved in a way that you approve.

none of it would have happened had gates been an old white man.

Says who? I think Gates' punishment was fair. Let the guy chill out and think about what a clown he's being.

Your argument that respecting police officers means you arent allowed to protest against the inhumane treatment of people in communist China is ing retarted.

He showed ID. Nothing else was necessary for the investigation.

They were done with the investigation.
