    Via PETA.org:

To bludgeon a 4-ounce animal to death, it takes either a small man or a totally unthinking one—with no respect or consideration for lives humbler than his own. This is a time when athletes in particular need to be on their best behavior around any animal and show that they have brains and a heart, not just reactionary brawn.

Bats always try to avoid contact with humans, and there are plenty of easy ways to keep bats out of a basketball arena (or your home). We hope that the next time someone’s life is on the line, Manu Ginobili will take just a few seconds to think before he acts.

I understand trying to advocate for animals and wanting to save them but PETA is way to extreme with their views and especially what happened in this case (by the way the bat didn't even die like they said). They're more concerned about the safety of the bat then they would be with Manu or any other person there. Say what they want to say about how bats are so harmless and all this stuff but what if the bat did go bite someone and had rabies? It shouldn't of been there in the first place. By the way they should know that Manu loves animals. These were on his other facebook page .

By the way it's interesting now to hear Manu say on his facebook that it wasn't a good idea and that bats are a good part of our ecosystem .

    Manu Ginobili

Update Bat deal // Actualización tema murciélago
Just wanted to give you guys an update on the bat situation. As many of you already know, it wasn't a great idea. Not only for the fact that bats are great part of the ecosystem, but also, because some carry rabies, which is an incurable disease...
If I were that dog I wouldn't feel comfortable in Manu's hands ... I see that dog is scared for Manu's smile

BTW ... did that bat pay the ticket? or just be there for free, Mr Stern should consider that some revenue is flying around.

Blair's life was on the line.
or the life of his of his teammates.
one more turn of the bat an he either is scared to death or he bolts in panic. you know what could happen when the 260lbs beast stampedes.
    people get hurt. see Pamplona!
Manu just did what had to be done.

Oh PETA... they continuously try to compare human lives to those of animals. I'm all against cruelty to animals; but let's put this in perspective. Bats are disease carrying mammals and this one was trapped in an arena. Several methods were used to get said bat out of the arena (none worked). So if a flying rat that may have rabies is flying towards your baby do you...

    a) Try and reason with it
    b) Sing a "happy" song to it hoping it will calm down
    c) Let him bite your baby because we are all God's creatures
    d) Check him for rabies before he bites and then buy him lunch

Times like these, show how out of touch PETA is with normal human logic. Can't have much respect for an organization that puts half naked people on street corners to try and get attention. Go home PETA and eat some tofu turkey... Now I'm leaving to enjoy my stay at the top of the food chain with some Rudy's BBQ and that does NOT make me a bad person.

PETA's comments are ludicrous, but so are most of the posts here.

and I did not know there was such thing as a "sense of humor" concept in the USA (well, I've just lived there for three years)

I'm a huge animal supporter..my long-time GF is in school to be a vet, and I've even enrolled in a month-long course in Africa studying wild animals next Summer..but PETA does really annoy me, and they make animal supporters look bad IMO..

With that being said, I didn't find the Manu incident funny, especially not as funny as so many people found it..I didn't see the big deal though..the bat could have had rabies, it could have potentially hurt some people in the arena, and the people involved tried different ways to capture it..

Whoever brought the bat in the arena is clearly an idiot though..

In the context of what happened, it meant nothing.

These PETA idiots are making it sound like Manu kills bats for a living.....

It's going to be hard to lose a healthy Ginobili, but there's no way he's not going down for murder. 30+ years if he's lucky.

This was on Shaq's twitter. Yeah I can see PETA going all out riot against Shaq especially stepping on the poor little bat with his big fat foot . The poor little bat wouldn't even have a chance to survive.
