Oh please, of course he's gonna say that publically. He surely wouldn't want people to think otherwise now would he? Duh.
Numbskull. No one is saying he would say that publicly or privately. It's sarcasm. There's no way Popovich
    a) goes into coaching on the premise that he will successfully tank enough games to win a lottery. I repeat, WIN A LOTTERY.
    b) has the sense of security that if another team or two tank more than him he'll still win the lottery. What? Do you think he's a gambling addict?

"Hi, I'm Gregg Popovich. I decided to be a coach because I truly believed that I could make my team lose more than anyone else in the league, and even if I failed to lose the most, which I did, I would still win a longshot lottery against a Team that had two picks and much, much higher percentage of winning than me"
Do you now see how ridiculous your claim is?

That is so insulting to Gregg Popovich and the entire San Antonio Spurs organization.

There's a difference between wishing he coached a loss to the Bobcats and calling him a s bag. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. And do go to try to dampen it and say, "Pop thought he had a good chance of being a coach in a good situation." BULL . You flat out called him a cheater. You have to own up to this. Man up.

The things in the previous post I said Popovich thought, you know the things you thought I was saying he actually thought, I said "he would have to think". I'm saying it's nuts. The fact that you believe is evidence of how nuts your 'theories' are. They're like dweeby X-Files level conspiracy junk.

Think about that. That's your level of enjoyment of the NBA. Of the San Antonio Spurs. You give your faithful attention to a team headed by a man you claim is a cheater. Is Barry Bonds your favorite baseball player?

I'm not sure what your ranting about in the 2nd half your argument, how is tanking the year "risking the future of the franchise"?

because there's a huge chance of NOT GETTING TIM DUNCAN. and instead getting Keith Van Horn, Antonio Daniels, Tony Battie, Ron Mercer, Tim Thomas, Adonal Foyle, Tracy McGrady, Danny Fortson, Tariq Abdul-Wahad, Austin Croshere,

You don't think that's a risk? Do you seriously believe that the last place team always wins the lottery? What the heck? What place was San Antonio in? THIRD LAST. Yes, Vancouver was excluded from 1st pick but there was still Boston and Popovich as a GM had to know that if they tanked too they had TWO chances in the draft. Look at the odds. At the point that Popovich took over they were playing poorly. They were also injured...but they were losing. There was no way to predict the success of the rest of the league but he had to know about Boston's situation. At the end of the season Boston was the ENTIRE WORLD'S PREDICTION for winning the lottery. Did you see #s in the other post? Do you know how the lottery works?

Do you know the history or teams who win the lottery's rank? Do you know the history of the last place team winning the lottery?

I don't think you do. Otherwise we wouldn't be wasting time on this offensive garbage.

It's a theory of mine and I don't really care if you find it insulting to Popovich or your mother or your dog or the hookers you have on your speed dial.

You say its nuts, I say its a defenite possibility that it could have been a factor weighing into his decision. Funny how his contract runs out at the same time as Duncan's huh? I guess that was just pure luck that happened.

LOL they wish they were owning me. Deep down, they know all is not right with Popovich's coaching but they will defend him to the bitter end.
    whatever you say.

I've always seen our players keep a lid on emotion until 4th quarter heroics are needed. They know it's a 48 minute game and an 82 game season, so why get worked up in the first half? We have a very emotional team, but I highly doubt they throw their pabst blue ribbon at the TV as you do.

Why can't you just make this the OP? What the does this have to do with your beloved, "fools gold"? Are you a really old person who used to be named Smeagle? Maybe I'm being insensitive and you have a seriously problem that I shouldn't poke fun at. Are you autistic with compulsions to use elementary metaphors to relieve stress?

Yeah seriously, TJastal. You just claimed that in December 1996 Popovich fired Hill to be a coach because he just found out that he won the grand prize lottery pick of the decade when the lucky ping pong ball was pulled in May 1997? Nice job, way to raise the bar.

Copy/paste the same thing? Well, allow me to use the same thing as well, USE THIS AS YOUR ORIGINAL POST. The fool's gold thing is 's gold as this point. Come on, you don't want to end up a "poor's man's SequSpur" do you?

DUDE, Finley hasn't even come back yet. What the are you doing wasting everyone's time arguing that Pop ed up a rotation THAT HASN'T EVEN HAPPENED YET??!?!!?!? This is so stupid. I mean, at least you're dropping the pyrite crap. God, you're so full of yourself. The Spurs lose a game and it's about how YOU are affected. You think they like losing? You think the players think Popovich is "Fool's Gold"? You think the players would laugh at you if you tried to spew this incoherent baby-talk about how the Spurs would win 82 games if only they didn't have FOOLS GOLD for a coach? Well, sorry, at least you dropped the FOOLS GOLD thing. But modulating into Michael Finley's role on the team is not any better. It may be worse since AGAIN, HE HASN'T EVEN PLAYED YET!
You wouldn't have made so many enemies if you just said,

"Hey this team looks really good on paper. At times they play with brilliance. I think the reason they are inconsistent and haven't won 32 games yet is because Gregg Popovich isn't using rotations that bring out their strengths."

Yeah we know you couldn't actually construct three coherent sentences but you also have the totally obnoxious element of "I'm totally right. I'm right. I know I'm right. I'm totally right. I'm a better coach than Gregg Popovich. I would say it to his face and take the team if I had the chance."
So we just think that you are the actual FOOL in this thread.

Oops, my bad. Yes, the FOOL'S GOLD metaphor is absolutely one of the most stupid rant in recent weeks. There are so many idiots on the board that their pants at a loss. Out of all the weirdos with emotional problems and disassociation with reality, this has the elements(no pun intended, not that you'd get it anyway) of a championship, re ed fail.

    1) the catchy metaphor that is supposedly emphasizing your opinion of Gregg Popovich is lame. It doesn't make sense.

    2) maybe in your head there's a decent idea but we'll never know because your writing is just as awful as your metaphor.

    3) if your thought process is this messy then we can only guess the same goes for your knowledge of basketball

    4) furthering an already bad metaphor by calling the team the real gold. you've ironically 'burned' yourself by exposing how stupid the original FOOLS GOLD-POPOVICH is. Do you ever know what the FOOLS GOLD means? Pop has been here since before Duncan. Pop's only losing season was during the 96-97 "Murphy's Law" season. Pop's had success with full rosters and with injured stars. Pop's always had a winning season whether it was with a cast of journeymen, lottery picks, late draft picks, free agents, undrafted players, past-their-prime veterans, past-past-their-prime veterans, offensively handicapped players, star vetarans, etc. This is not a losing season. Are we a losing team right now? How long were we sub .500? Are we going to be a losing team next week? Next month? End of the season? Are we going to make a deep playoff run? Are we going to be healthy? Are we going to win a championship? ....The first few questions are NO. So shove the FOOLS GOLD. The last few questions are answered by QUIT THIS FREAKING OUT AND EITHER SHUT UP OR GO BE A LAKERS FAN.

You better NOT EVER criticize a player on this message board. Seriously, don't even think of it. I'm sick of you idiots getting all high and mighty thinking you're special so we should deal with your crappy threads. You claim the team is gold and coach Pop is FOOLS GOLD, then DON'T EVER ING TRY TO BLAME A PLAYER FOR A LOSS!

Put your 'money' where your mouth is.

Listen PARE, I recommend you read what you post first before questioning other peoples reading comprehension. It will help you in future discussions.

Just some helpful advice, take it as you will.

And as to 'my' Pop messing up the Spurs; well as I said: It's almost unintentionally satirical how overwrought some posters get.

Pop is by no means a perfect coach (no coach is), but he is one of the best in the league and in league history. And if your criticism is "he no like players who show emotion"...well. Ok then.

Pop is a good coach. The only thing He's lacking is Trust to young players.

LOL this is why your name is Duhoh I take it? This is the absolute dumbest thing I've ever read in this forum, bar-none. Congratulations, that was quite an accomplishment.
oh, sure. like your logic is full of win right?

if you can see the kind of bond the timmeh and pop have, that is a huge part of them being able to successfully believe in themselves and their system.

morale is a tough place to examine i'm sure, but i can't name another player that had this deep of a relationship with a coach. please let me know if that's not the case. we've had plenty of players that respected their coaches, but so one case to my knowledge where coach and player are father-and-son-style.

that really shows how much trust tim has in his coach. that trust has turned into great communication, and into great success.

thank you for meaningfully responding to my previous post.
