5:30 p.m. update: Will Texans see In-N-Out expanding to other big cities like San Antonio? No, says Van Fleet: “We really aren’t considering anything outside the Dallas/Ft. Worth market at this time. That market is plenty big and we don’t plan to change our rate of growth

    Butthurt Five Guys got.
Dude...have you even tried Five Guys? If you had, you wouldn't think they're . I've had burgers from every kind of burger joint in America (including some you've probably never heard of) and Five Guys is the BEST, hands down. Five Guys has won "best burger" awards in every city they operate in. In-n-Out is good stuff, but when you get right down to it, they're basically just a glorified McDonalds. Five Guys serves REAL hamburgers, and their fries OWN.

That's the same line they used when they said In-N-Out wouldn't be coming to Texas at all.

I don't expect it will happen anytime soon, but if they've got the distribution centers here and business booms, my bet is that they will expand eventually.

Double-Double with grilled onions and an extra tomato. Perfection.
And the fact that it's a 4 minute walk from my place to the closest In-N-Out is simply awesome. Where I live though, the draw is Chick-Fil-A. There are only 4 in the county of San Diego but they're opening a 5th one that's about a 9 minute walk away.
It's a shame that they're close on Sunday, but I respect why that is...

They have one in my neck of the woods, but its is actually a 20min drive, so I'm not always able to grub there.

Well, it did take forever for Texas to get one. It was probably not in In N Out's plans 20 years ago, but things change.

The original owners have long passed away and their belief that it should stay in California began to wane as the company was splitting in their path for the future. I believe there is a huge fight over control of In N Out that happened recently...I'm not sure if it was resolved, but it pitted a former CEO against the niece or grand-daughter of the owners...

Wrong. But it is an interesting argument...there are tons of places in L.A. that burn both Five Guys and In N Out, but from a pure standpoint--Five Guys is good, but not the greatest.

He may have been talking more about chain burger joints. Five Guys is definitely among the best of the chain places. But people will ALWAYS find little hole-in-the-wall spots, or local joints that are better than Five Guys, Mooyahs, In-and-Out, etc...

Oh okay, he had mentioned that he tried places that the person he was responding to, may have never been to--so I assumed that he was referring to all burger joints. The one thing I think makes me a fan of Five Guys is their choice of toppings...the fresh jalapenos is always a good thing and if anyone is ever in the L.A. area, The Counter and Father's Office have a wide array of burgers that range from the exotic (reindeer) to over a 100 different combos...Like a Goober Burger...

well there spending all this money on a distribution center in dallas so there not going to make a distribution center for just on in and out burger and the vice president said that it will be a big enough to cover a "few restraunts" so my guess is that if dallas in n out is a huge success then they will open more in that area and start expanding around to other big citys in texas(houston, san antonio, austin,) to see if they get the same success they just said there not think of expanding right now becuase they just want to make in Dallas work first IMO

Five Guys used to just be a local deal in the DC area, with just a few stores. I used to live right up the road from one of their very first stores. I was surprised that they expanded so quickly. Glad to have them down here in Tampa, though!

As far as local joints go, they are often hit or miss. If you're ever up in Juneau, Alaska, you gotta try the Cookhouse. Their burgers are off the hook! It's easy to find...it's right next to the Police HQ in downtown Juneau.

BTW, anyone here ever try the burgers at Green Iguana? They're pretty damn good, too.

Cool...I'll put that on my list. Reminds me of the Brickskeller in DC...they have a variety of exotic burgers...and a ton of different microbrews. Yummy!

Also try the Apple Pan, which is pretty good, for their burgers and of course, they're very delicious Apple Pie selection...

Here is the menu to The Counter:
