Don't know about symbian but Androids can easily access a network share and copy files back and forth. This has been possible for years.

being able to talk smack only about my #5 device in the list
    yeah but it sucks

Actually, iCloud isn't just another Dropbox. Arguably, it's quite different than DB. It's more of a sync service with metadata capabilities than a remote file system. Can't really discuss the APIs due to the NDA.

This is exactly why I was terrible behind the movie theater concession stand.
Yup. I used to give we were supposed to charge 'extra' for free all the time. I never used the canned 'would you like to try a $100 combo' line even though I made commission on each one.

DropBox is not simply remote filesystem. You can also sync with all your devices.

    this was a year ago:
Dropbox Launches Android App & Mobile API, Gives iPad Cloud Sync Apple Should Have Built

    http://techcrunch.com/2010/05/04/dro...ld-have-built/

One of the best parts of the new mobile API is the fact that it works with iPad applications. There are plenty of things to love about the iPad, but Apple has badly botched the flow to actually share files created on an iPad with your PC or Mac — the convoluted process involves syncing with iTunes, ( lefty) which isn’t the first application you’d think of when you’re trying to save, say, a Word do ent. With applications that integrate the Dropbox mobile API, you can skip that entirely: just tap save from your iPad. Your file will sync to your Dropbox account, and it will immediately pop up on all of your synced computers. In short, this is the file syncing service that Apple should have built (but better, because it works with Android apps too).

DropBox is not simply remote filesystem. You can also sync with all your devices.
We support DropBox in our apps. I'm very familiar with their service since I wrote the code using their APIs. DropBox *IS* a remote filesystem, and it also will do incremental diffing on the actual files (which is what they call sync).

iCloud is very different. There's no 'create directory', 'rename', 'upload', 'download' or even directory listing on iCloud. You just mark a do ent to be in the cloud, and a domain where you want to store it (a domain being basically what kind of file it is: Do ent or something else). iCloud at that point will handle all the uploading and pushing to other devices. The other action you can do from your app is run a metadata search on the storage domain. iCloud also provides an asynchronous notification mechanism to let your app know that data in the cloud has changed. With Dropbox you have to poll for changes, since it's a REST-ful API.

In a nuts , they're just different services. Dropbox was born as a remote file system, then added sync capabilities on top. iCloud is inherently a sync service, kind of like iSync but over the internet.

I really like Dropbox as a remote file system. We integrated it in our app and people love it. I don't think we can implement the same functionality with iCloud without jumping through a lot of hoops. We could use iCloud for something else, like storing the actual app database there and we would get free sync basically. But we already offer Bluetooth and Wifi syncing, so it's somewhat irrelevant for us.

We'll probably add an iCloud option to store and retrieve database backups (we already support Dropbox for that). That's the only thing that makes sense for us.

Have you looked into this, hater?

    http://lifehacker.com/5817477/how-ca...-my-old-iphone

Whited00r is a replacement firmware for the iPhone 2G and 3G (as well as iPod touch 1G and 2G) that's designed specifically for aging iOS devices. It's exactly like iOS, except it's optimized to run fast on old devices while also introducing many of the features old iPhone's can't get from the most recent iOS updates. Among other features, Whited00r supports:

    Mul asking
    Folders
    Homescreen wallpaper
    Batter percentages
    MMS
    Bluetooth and USB tethering
    Tap-to-focus camera
    Emoji
    Video recording
Essentially Whited00r offers a ton of upgrades to old iOS devices without the serious slowdowns you'll experience if you try upgrading to iOS 4. (Which isn't even an option, depending on how old your device is.) Whited00r devices are also jailbroken out of the box, so you can also enjoy our favorite jailbreak hacks.

To install Whited00r on your device, just follow along with Whited00r's installation guide. When I installed Whited00r on my iPhone 3G, I had to follow the instructions in the "Solve installation errors" section, so if at first you don't succeed, troubleshoot! Be sure to check out the post-installation scripts if you want to squeeze even more performance from your device.

but then the screen broke I think my phone is officially dead.

Hey I'm an unbiased person. While I will miss iphone and iOS and its niceties., I will never ever buy an Apple product ever again.

Sorry to hear your hardware broke. I guess it's a great time to try something else.

I've been switching between Apple and Win for my desktop computer at home for years. There's nothing wrong with 'switching' and trying to find what you're more comfortable with at any given point in time. It's actually great there's more than one option out there, IMO.

yeah, i'm the moron because you have no idea how to properly convey what you're thinking in written/typed form?

iOS and Android are two different OS's, iOS3 and iOS4 are two different versions of the same OS. uh...

as for "Apple supported OS", i believe apple supports all their OS's even jailbroken, but once you jailbreak it, you just don't get the tech support to help with your pirated apps and such.

i totally agree even though i despise winOS no matter the version... after in' around with protools on a win7 install, i really hate that ty OS. i'd rather spend all day in linux in' around with some opensource recording software than try my hand at protools on a winOS system again, that was a pain in the ass to get going, maybe my friends computer just flat out sucks.

    Here is your chocolate sandwich:

    http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/artic...t_att_verizon/

    Juste a taste:

Even Apple’s two year old iPhone 3GS is doing well. The analyst wrote, “Interestingly, our checks indicated continued strong demand for the iPhone 3GS at AT&T as this older generation product with a reduced price of $49 often outsold new Android products.”
