decent take. if Manu still has fire in the belly, i think we need to retain him, as long as its sensible. If if its true that he won't be playing for the national team, that might be good. Perhaps cut down on the wear and tear...
I hate that Bonner chokes and that Pop puts him in a position to choke. I've met Matt personally, talked to him, he's the nicest guy. I don't want any Spur player hurt.
Manu will be paid whatever the market for him dictates he should be paid. He left money on the table the last time he re-signed, and he probably still makes the Spurs a lot of money even when he doesn't play.
He's still a valuable player, even at his age and his perceived injury proneness.

I'm going to wait and see how Manu finishes this season. If he gets another injury I hope for his sake he retires. I'd rather see him go out with something left. Why play until he has nothing left and can't help the team anymore?
If the Spurs win it all this season, Manu will retire. Timmy will come back one more for sure. Manu's body is telling this could be the last season, make the most of it. Or this and one more is all you got so go for it. But Manu will not change his style of play. It works for him.
Guy definitely needs to retire after this season, its gettin real ugly
Manu can be a role player for another year or two tbh, but him running the point/bench is over.
I missed that quote tbh![]()
How long ago was it when we pulled up the "Ditka couldn't stop Manu tonight" thread?
Much like Manu's play, it seems that ST's views on Manu swing more wildly than a pregnant woman's emotions.
I know Manu will come up big when needed in the playoffs. He was never the most consistent player even in his prime. Heck, check his numbers in the 05 Finals, which I saw as his best finals series. In games 1 and 2 he scored 26 and 27. Amazing. Both wins. In games 3 and 4 he scored 7 and 12. Both losses. In game 5, the Horry bailing out Tim's free throws game, Manu scored 15 on 5-16 shooting. In the game 6 loss he scored 21 and in the game 7 win he was huge with 23 points on 13 shots.
Dude is going to have plenty of games and will make up for them with pure brilliance. All in all, I trust him to make plays in the clutch on both ends of the floor in big games, especially come playoff time. His performance in the game 5 OKC loss still sits well in my head, friggin carried us. He also keyed the game 1 and 2 wins against OKC tbh. Quit overreacting because he puts up his stinkers and turnobili appears here and there
Let us pray for Manu being able to play at least one more time in a PO game.....
amen
i thought about bumping this, but proud Brazil went to work.
im just bumping threads I'm supposed to bump tbh
Well I've been calling for him to retire at the end of the season because it's been painful to watch him to go down this way and I don't want to watch him end his career this way. I know we're all ripping him but whether he retires (which I still hope he does) or not it's been fun watching him play all of these years and bring everything he had to the team. He's never been the best at anything but he gave it everything he got even if he made mistakes. It's been fun watching make all of these crazy highlights. I still enjoy watching all of his earlier highlights in his career. I'm thankful for his sacrifice on this team when he could've been a starter anywhere else all of these years but he went to the bench to cover every other SG the Spurs got. Thanks Manu. Honestly with all the basketball Manu's played in his career that I'm amazed he hasn't retired four or five years ago. People say he's fragile like he's weak or something but if you think about all the contact he's taken throughout his 11 years he's been here in the NBA plus all of the international basketball he's played in his career I'm impressed he even survived. He might not be as durable other guards but he's given everything he's got. Ok now I might have to go watch some 2005 playoff tapes. Ok there's my eulogy.
I agree, we are going to miss this guy! He would hit timely shots when we needed them or get a foul and get to the line! That or a key steal or play. He was a gambler and made some bad ones like the stupid TO in game three at SAC which lead to Martins fluke layin or that Foul on Dirk, but in other runs he made flat out key threes or plays to win it! He was ice at the FT line too, he was our ace there in tight games and you knew he would make them. I will miss this guy when he is done! He sucks this year but I try to remember the one that I rooted for and got his jersey for support after that 06 Mavs series! He is a Spurs legend and bball HOF player.
No need to get emotional, dude will extend for at least two more seasons with the Spurs which should translate to roughly 15-20 more games...
I still love watching those plays on KG
Thanks tmttrio and Sean, finally a couple of posters who understood the spirit of that thread.
the spurs w/o Manu are not going to have the same flavor but time for him indeed to take care of his kids and wifie and think about coaching.
bump
Manu needs to give all his minutes to TMac tbh
