Not really a knock on him since he's one of the most famous actors in the world so its difficult to separate him from that. Like i said, he plays his "type" very well but he isn't on the level of DDL or Gary Oldman when it comes to range. Not sure why Mono is melting down tbh.....

Every actor looks great on paper when you just list their role descriptions. Tyler Perry has played a sassy black woman, a DC detective, and a high ranking space commander. Great range tbh

Leonardo DiCaprio is a solid actor, and I loved Wolf of Wall Street, but he was not robbed.

If anyone was, it was Ejiofor. He's been off-the-radar brilliant for years, and his performance in 12 Years a Slave is amazing. I'm happy with McConaughey's win, though, because I am fully in support of the McConaughaissance.
I haven't seen 12 Years a Slave, but Eijofor has brought the goods in a lot of roles, especially Children of Men, where he was great as a liberal baddie.

As for McConaughey, I think it was just the culmination of one of the greatest rebounds or renaissances I've seen. Travolta had one with Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty etc... but this has been more of the real deal. Basically McConaughey finally living up to his potential as an actor.

I thought he stole Wolf of Wall Street. It was like Alec Baldwin in Glengary Glen Ross, it kickstarted the whole thing, and as great as both those movies were, they lost something when Baldwin and McConaughey's characters disappeared.

As for DiCaprio, I think he is a really good actor. I think his biggest flaw, imo, is he can't shake that spoiled brat or sullen look at times. But he started out very good in What's Eating Gilbert Grape (or Critters 3 if you watched that back in the day like me). I think Django and Wolf have been his best work in awhile. I'm sure he'll get an Oscar at some point. no one was robbed like Scorsese, Kubrick or Hitch .

It's all personal opinion. It's easier for us to suspend disbelief with certain actors than with others. I never could get through the Sandra Bullock in space thing. I couldn't accept her as knowing anything about science or technology. Her putting the circuit boards in (and pulling them) hot and turning the wrench in the wrong direction didn't help. I just don't see the "hottie" in serious films. She's a decent actress, but I think a lot of the "awe" is how these low level people get a higher level gig (Jamie Foxx). Were it not for the amazing visuals and music, Sandra doesn't even get considered. Her acting wasn't any better than the acting of Tom Cruise in "Oblivion" tbh.

McConaughey, Hawke, and Ejiofor were all better than DiCaprio this year. Leo was most deserving of a win for Django, and he was not even nominated. He should just stop crying and enjoy the inevitable lifetime achievement award he'll get.

Leo didn't even give the best performance in wolf of wallstreet, tbh. Matty Mc came in and shat all over him in the 10 minutes of screen time he had, tbh....

Good to see 12 Years win the Best Picture award--it was by far the best of the 9 that were nominated. It was funny to see all the DiCaprionics get all salty over his loss to MM, but Leo did not deserve it for Wolf but he should have at least one already based on his past work. Anyhow, only caught the winning speeches and left out all that morose filler that plagues this award show. First time watching any of it in years...good to see McQueen's exuberance and I don't recall an Oscars being talk at ad naseum before...this could be the way it is from now on.

John Ridley has always been an outspoken fella. Both of them by all accounts are divas and it wasn't a surprise they'd be feuding. I believe I read somewhere that Ridley scoffed at an early awards that McQueen had mentioned that it was a creative twosome that came up with the screenplay adaptation. Ridley said to with that and got mad and so they're probably beefing. Sad because they just etched their names in the pantheon of cinema. They will be ensured a spot on the In Memoriam when the time comes. Interesting and I'm sure you won't see them pairing up on any 12 Years a Slave pt. 2 - The Carpet Bagging Years...

Until Leo gets all ugly in a role he won't win an Oscar. He's a great actor, however until we see a major physical transformation (weight loss, hair, face change) he's going to be nominated at best. Look at:
    Day Lewis (all his work)
    Theron (for Monster)
    Bale (The Fighter)
    Rusty Cohle (Dallas)
Tom Hanks etc....the list goes on and on.

I believe Wolf was the closest he's got to stepping outside his persona and gravitas as a celebrity.

I'm guessing he could've starved himself for his role as Howard Hughes in The Aviator...I don't think he really deserved to win for Wolf--I had Matthew M. and Chiwetel ahead of him by a margin for this year's award. I felt that he should've won for The Aviator but that year it seemed like the agenda to give the award to a minority proved to be what got the vote. I'm certain he'll finally take one home but he'll have to wait for another year.

Also, for all the Leonuts, they shouldn't fret--Peter O'Toole was nominated 8 times and won zilch. To his defense, he went up against the likes of John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Marlon Brando (declined), Ben Kingsley, and Forrest Whitaker (and Leo himself) and lost every time. He played some great roles, too. Lawrence of Arabia, in Lion in Winter, and Goodbye, Mr. Chips.

yup, and it took 8 nominations for Al Pacino to win one aswell, yet DDL has 3 already

He is the leader in the clubhouse with 3--that's more than Brando, Cooper, Hanks, and Tracy! I like DDL but he maybe deserved it for My Left Foot and Daniel Plainview was meh for me...but Lincoln I didn't think he deserved it for that role however since it is an American Icon, I think it was a forgone conclusion. I think Leo could've won for his role in a number of movies. I think in the end he'll get the nod but we'll see. I don't think he's losing sleep as he beds Victoria Secret models, is a lock for any Scorsese film, and is renowned. I know its that mark of winning an Oscar that gives you immortality in the business, but being Dan Marino of the acting world (so far) isn't all that shabby.

Finally watched Captain Phillips and damn, Barkhad Abdi was amazing in it. Yeah I know the story is somewhat of an ode to Obama and his greatness but the Somalian can act. I thought he did a good job and I could have seen the Oscar going to him instead of Jared Leto or perhaps a tie.
