Bonner was selected #45... second round.
Baynes was undrafted.
Okay... that's at least 5 players on the championship rotation that were either 2nd rounders or undrafted.
So.... you think its a waste of time to look at 2nd rounders?

Dude was the 7th best player on spurs summer league, glad he got a thread
From that article:
The former UMass player agreed on draft night to spend the upcoming season with the Austin Spurs in the NBA Development League.
Actually like that more than him going overseas. Gives him the minutes he needs to hone his shot. Hopefully the Spurs get a couple of decent camp-contract guys from the SL team to put next to him. He'd going into next summer as the first or second option for the Vegas squad.
This. The Spurs think his shot has some potential, so if he can get some quality time with Chip Engelland, he could be a much more complete player a year from now.
I agree. It's usually a financial sacrifice for the player to play D-League versus Europe, but it's probably better for his development to be close to the Spurs coaches (Chip!) and in the Spurs system.
Nice find
It's a good news that there were an agreement before the draft between Spurs and Lalanne being stashed.
It sucks when a team is trying to convince a player to go overseas or in D-League and the player wants to try playing in the NBA. Spurs have faced this situation in the past with Jack McClinton.
BTW, it's really something to consider when analyzing mid to late second round picks. Fans being surprised that their team drafted X over Y might be just explained with X having agreed of being stashed while Y hasn't.
He could have come in (from Haiti) as a minor illegally. If the got in at a certain age, he's at least eligible for the Dream act to stay temporarily. I suspect that he did come in at a young age based on his lack of having an accent.
He's still looking for a job though and the Spurs are well connected to find him a place in Europe to be stashed.
If he's agreed to play in the D League, he has a job, right?
From reading the article, it sounded like Cady was always heading to the D League. It says that he has untapped scoring potential that was never reached due to lack of opportunity. Makes sense he'd head to Austin to work on his game.
Cady showed a one-dribble pull-up in that first game in Utah. If he can legitimately develop moves like that, he may well end up being a decent player. I hope the Toros (really, forget calling them the Spurs, as that's stupid) get someone like Ndoye to play center next to Cady. While he's plenty big enough to be a five in the d-league and will probably be an undersized one in the pros, he would benefit greatly from developing as many PF skills as possible.
Cady needs about 2 years of work with the Toros (let's just call them that so there's no confusion). He's got length, but he's too small to be an NBA center. He needs to work on his shooting and his footwork.
Ndoye also has some decent size but also needs a couple more years to become a servicebale center.
It is tough these days for bigs because the opportunities aren't as plentiful as the guards or forwards. In Europe, most of the bigs playing are European. The team usually add Americans for athleticism on the guard or forward slots, very rarely do they hire an American for a center role. Probably same issue even in Asian leagues.
This one Darkwaters
Agreed. Put a few of the Summer League guys there and practice getting them used to certain sets. Some of those guys might make it if they can develop just another reliable skill.
He really struggled to make it in America. Glad to see him drafted this year. Anyways, he'll get some nice playing time with the Toros just like Anderson last season. Then he'll eventually get the opportunity to play on the team after he improves his jumpshot. Love his defense.
