Spurs should try to get Beasley... yeah I know... he's not the kind of player the Spurs usually get but who knows... maybe he's matured after playing in China.

Besides, we got players like West who'll make the effort to discipline him.

Spurs just need the additional edge to play small ball.

    Luxury tax.

    Kawhitstorm:
Big Dummy, the whole point of "dumping a salary" is to save money/tax. (The Worriers dumped Lee which saved them a whole lot of money even though they are a tax paying team......Do you think they wanted Jason Thompson rather than Lee?)

Because they would have had to pay dearly. Warriors dumped RJ, together with Biedrins to Utah for 2 first round picks ( unprotected! ) and 2 seconds. Obviously things turned out great for them, but they paid a premium in cash and assets for RJ's short time there.
Big Dummy 2.0, PATFO paid 'dearly" to dump his "team friendly" contract in the form of a 1st rd pick that ended up being Ezeli when they could have dumped his EXPIRING contract for the same price. Do you really think the Worriers valued more so than they wanted to get rid of Jack & get a 1st rd pick?

The Worrier giving up two 1st rd picks to dump TWO bad contracts ( /Biendrins) & as their ransom to acquire Iggy. Iggy >>>>>> Jack.

Easy to spend someone else's millions, isn't it
That's what said while stealing money for not playing.

Sure, if you want to give away a bunch of other assets to make someone take that big a salary.

What were you willing to give up back then?

    Let's see your list.

You can't dump a larger salary for the same price, genius -- because it's a larger salary.

Big Dummy, teams WITH SALARY CAP SPACE don't care about a large EXPIRING contracts but don't want anything to do with mediocre vets on a reasonable LONG TERM contract unless they are swapping players, getting away with highway robbery or have owners who are willing to buy them out. They simply make transactions to collect assets & don't care about paying for assets as long as they remain under the cap. What everyone cares about is freeing up cap space to sign free agents in the summer which is why expiring contract are so valued.

Basically, it wouldn't have taken more than the same 2012 1st rd pick to dump 's expiring contract if PATFO didn't care about keeping him on board. The Pacers dumped Hibbert for just a measly 2nd rd pick b/c he has an expiring contract.

Of course they do. It's not like they don't have to pay the player. If a team has to pay the player twice as much, the return price goes up.

Again, Roy Hibbert's corpse only required a 2nd rd pick.

That was a fire sale by Indiana to a team that actually wanted Hibbert.

    All true, of course.

In a crazy turn of events however, with the rising salary cap next 2 seasons, and with a lot of teams potentially having difficulties reaching the salary floor, the dead money large contracts might actually become valuable.

^ I can't think of a buyout I'd care less about. I wish there were legit guys on the market like Brewer was in 2011.

So you're telling me that there are teams that are willing to take on bums on a ty contract.

Dre/Simmons would be a deadly lob combo against 3rd stringers

I think locking in Hibbert, if he gets bought out, is a good Duncan retirement/Boban bolting insurance policy.

Then again the lakers probably think he contributes to making them bad this year so that they can keep their pick.

I think the Spurs would definitely sign this guy if he were bought out. And we would probably resign him. We may go after him this summer if he isn't bought out.

OMG, a MUCH better third PG candidate than Miller. Team should have waited, especially since Udrih may not sign for a few more weeks as he recovers.
