NBA Draft: Players That the Spurs Are Working Out

I want Swanigan to do well in the NBA. I just can't convince myself that he's going to. Unless you consider Dejuan Blair a great success.

He's another one of those guys they list as 6'9", and I think he's more like 6'7 1/2". He's a good rebounder, like Blair. But a lot of people are showing interest in him because he hit a bunch of 3's last season. I'm not crazy about having my rebounding specialist standing out around the 3P line. Besides, Pop doesn't let guys like Blair pursue offensive boards for very long, before they go to the doghouse.

He's heavier and stronger than Anderson, and maybe not quite as slow. But he's never had the kind of athleticism that would make him a top NBA prospect. As a rookie, especially, I'm not sure what he offers over Slo-Mo.

I hope he finds a good team, and gets paid. But I really can't see the Spurs spending their first round pick on him, and he won't be there at 59.

I wanted to say in my post that I'm not sure he's worth it our number but definitely with an early second. Probably be better two way players when we select...

If Swanigan falls to the mid second round I think that's great value, his skills offensively are much different than Blair and who knows, coming off the bench he could be successful.

That's an example of why I hope the Spurs try to buy a second round pick. I'd take a flyer on Swanigan with a mid-second round pick. I think (hope) they can do a lot better at 29, but if he's exactly Dejuan Blair, that's a reasonable mid-second round pick. There are a number of others I think will go that low, and I'd love to see the Spurs get one for just cash.

Swanigan is a more skilled player than Blair ever was. He actually has a solid jumper (shot 45% from 3 on 85 attempts last season), and he's a great rebounder. He's also 2 inches taller than Blair at 6'9.

I can't argue with most of that. (Other than the height with and w/o shoes thing, and I think you and I have danced on that one in the past. ) He is taller than Blair, though, either way. But Swanigan's max vert was something like 29" which is not good, and about 4" less than Blair's was. His lack of athleticism is a pretty big liability in the NBA.

Yea no I don't want him at 29 either. Way too high. But if we were to trade up midway through the 2nd round, he could be a target. He's a bruiser/hard-nosed guy who will likely give some team some good minutes off the bench.
