Rachel Maddow's Brilliant Analysis of the Niger Attack Turns Fox News Heads to Mush

o begin with, it must be noted that the headline above is fake news. The heads of those on Fox News, and their viewers, were already mush.

That said, their exposure to Rachel Maddow's program didn't make that situation any better. On Saturday morning the "Curvy Couch" potatoes of Fox and Friends spent several minutes with stunned expressions and babbling recriminations as they struggled to unwind Maddow's commentary.

On Friday Maddow laid out a detailed and well researched examination of what might have led up to four Green Berets being ambushed in Niger.

The gist is that Donald Trump's curious inclusion of Chad on his latest Muslim ban may have caused them to pull back on their anti-terrorism efforts in Niger. Since they were effective at suppressing groups like Al Shabaab and ISIS in the region, it left our troops vulnerable to attack.

"Maddow Blames Trump For Niger Attack."

They began by asserting that the events Maddow discussed were entirely separate and had no possible relation to one another.

Then he accuses her of spinning a wild conspiracy theory as "the leader of the left." But perhaps the most idiotic remarks were offered by co-host Abby Huntsman, who said this"

"It’s dangerous when the media starts having conversations about this and putting in their own theories that are, as you said, completely unrelated to what actually happened. It’s dangerous, not only for us in terms of figuring out what did happen.

But it’s dangerous to the families that lost loved ones over there because they’re the ones who should be the focus of this conversation and somehow we go down these roads oftentimes and it’s such a distraction and it’s such a disservice to this country and what our job is in the media.”

    Really?

Fox News is whining about media "putting in their own theories"?

Is that supposed to be satire?

And they are pretending to be upset that the families of the fallen aren't the focus the conversation even though Trump has still not spoken of them or paid any tribute.

Huntsmen launched this bit of unintentional hilarity:

"I can’t tell you how many of my friends I talk to, it’s like,

they have no idea where to go to figure out what’s actually going on.

I hear that from my family, my friends, people I just talk to on the streets."

Let that sink in. Her own friends and family tell her that they don't know where to get reliable news. Which means they don't think they can get it from her or Fox News either.

Trump Signs New Travel Ban Preventing Republican Senators from Fleeing

WASHINGTON —Donald Trump on Wednesday signed an emergency travel ban preventing Republicans from fleeing the United States Senate.

In a sombre Oval Office ceremony, a grim-faced Trump signed the ban, which he said would remain

in effect “until we figure out what the is going on.”

The executive order calls for the

relocation of three hundred Border Patrol officers from the Mexican border to Washington, D.C., in order to form what Trump called “a human ring of steel” around the Capitol Building.

Under the travel ban, Republican senators will be permitted to leave their seats in the Senate chamber for meals and bathroom breaks but will be strictly forbidden from speaking to journalists in the building’s corridors.

Susan Collins, of Maine, one of the Republicans affected by the ban, called attention to the

growing humanitarian crisis inside the Capitol.

“If you have a shred of decency, Mr. President, let us leave the Senate,” Collins said.

“Let us follow our dream of a better life.”

In retaliation, Trump reportedly told Border Patrol agents that if Collins is caught trying to escape

she should be returned to the Senate and forced to sit next to Ted Cruz.

Trump Blames Generals for Deadly Niger Ambush

Did President Donald Trump, the commander-in-chief, just blame U.S. generals for the deadly October 4 ambush in Niger?

When asked by reporters on Wednesday if he authorized the mission in Niger that left four U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers dead, Trump said, “No, I didn’t, not specifically.” The generals have “decision-making ability,” he added.

“I have generals that are great generals,” he said during an impromptu press conference outside of the White House before heading off to Dallas. “These are great fighters; these are warriors. I gave them authority to do what’s right so that we win. That’s the authority they have. I want to win. And we’re going to win.”

Trump referred to the leaders as “my generals” and “my military.” He’s used such phrasing before, which has angered the military community.

“When it comes to the military, the military belongs to the country. Our defense system belongs to the country. And it’s not the president’s military, it’s the military of the United States of America,” Leon Panetta, a former defense secretary and director of the CIA, said in April.

This is also not the first time Trump has seemingly placed responsibility for a deadly military incident on the generals. After a botched raid in Yemen resulted in the death of U.S. Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens in late January, Trump said, “My generals are the most respected that we’ve had in many decades I believe. And they lost Ryan.”

During his presidential campaign, Trump said, “I know more about ISIS than the generals do, believe me.” His actions since becoming president, however, suggest Trump doesn’t believe this at all.

This article goes to my point about the bigger picture in Niger and the rest of Africa. Behind these botched missions are failing policies that deserve a significant degree of scrutiny that both the mainstream media and congress will continue to avoid.

... won't get any. The MIC is out of civilian control, just like CIA/NSA/FBI are.

GWOT was started by Repugs for BigOil, it, like all wars, enriches the oligarchy, so it won't be stopped.

Endless war while 10Ms of Americans live in poverty, food insecurity, futures with no hope.

If we are going to have boots on the ground, you have to have support.

If you want security here, you have to make sure that you minimize the "Gap". (ref: P.M. Barnett's Pentagon's New Map )

revitalized "red menace" theme in the form of the "terror threat" narrative supported by the neocons of both parties. reality is closer to the U.S. being more concerned about the chinese and russian influences in africa than they are with any legitimate ties to ISIS in the region. meanwhile, most countries in africa continue to sink further and further under the characteristics of colonialism. difference is that the insurgents no longer fight oppression; they are closer to being sadistic gangs more than anything else, and spreading terror among their own civilians more than anyone else. the only moral objection the U.S. has is with whomever of these sadists would interfere with our business interests.
