the same court that decided Plessy vs. Ferguson found no ambiguity in the law 128 years ago yesterday

the language of the 14th Amendment isn't ambiguous, that was by design

Rand Paul wants to nuke the 14th Amendment

Rand is wrong about the original intent. Making former slaves who were smuggled into the US from foreign countries citizens was fully intended.

Making everyone (except the children of diplomats and "indians not taxed") born to foreigners in the US citizens was also originally intended.

“Under current interpretations of American law, anyone born on American soil automatically becomes a U.S. citizen, regardless of whether the parent was here legally or not,” Paul wrote in a lengthy post on X. “This is wrong and not at all the intent of those who wrote the 14th Amendment.”

The quotes are from John Bingham, principal framer of the 14th Amendment -- birthright citizenship was without any doubt the original intention

The original creedal liberalism of the United States invoked natural rights and the civil war vindicated them

Any legalistic revocation of those rights is a usurpation of the founding and the second founding and is a perfidious coup

    Justice Story, 1830

"Nothing is better settled at the common law than the doctrine that the children even of aliens born in a country while the parents are resident there under the protection of the government and owing a temporary allegiance thereto are subjects by birth."

    Inglis v. Sailor's Snug Harbor (U.S. 1830).
