Travis????
No.I didn't get to fire Travis as he left on his own.
No, this guy was a columnist who liked to write things for the sake of getting reactions out of people and is too smart for his own good.
After I (rightfully) got a talking to about letting his writing go without revision (although I do hate editing columnists for their thoughts, since it is their thoughts and not ours), this columnist was pissed that we didn't give him a chance to respond (which we had made our policy when I came on and duly informed him and the others of the change).
One morning, I wake to an array of e-mails berating me for not responding quickly enough (he gave me about a day when I was out of town), so I fired him.
Then he started ing that he had worked at the paper longer than I had and wanted a "going-away" column with carte blanche to say what he wanted. And, since he also threatened legal action with the state, he kind of saved me some grief since at that moment, it's out of my hands.
Anyway, that's the long story in a short form.
And I owe you $20.

You know, one of my former students had me sign up for facebook. I felt like grandpa there and I was 25 at the time.
