I'd take Vaughn as backup and suck it up for a year. As one of the few guys on the roster with any value, Beno needs to be used to package in a trade.
My Back-up PG depth chart
1. Vaughn
2. CJ Watson
Beno should be dealt away. He hasn't recovered since Finals 05. Vanx of all people was taking his minutes in the playoffs. Your value sucks big time when simply dribbling for a PG becomes a factor. Management has lost confidence in him and I think he will be dealt to one of the "several teams interested." For a second rounder/cash/decent role players/package deal.....

Vaughn is a pretty nice addition. He's probably the best defensive PG the Spurs have had to back up TP since AD if you think about it.
Vaughn was used in two ways by NJ. He spotted Kidd, but he was also used a lot when they went small alongside Kidd. Vaughn defended well, thus he was used to pressure either guard. His role wasn't to score but to be an extra ball-handler and to D-up. For instance, Vaughn was good enough to defend Fred Jones, a very strong player.
The problem he will face with the Spurs is when the ball swings back to him late in the shot clock and he has to shoot. That's a case where Beno provides better results.
Beno is the better overall option, but if they can package him with Barry or whomever to get a good young SF, you have to do it. He's expendable. Getting rid of him for a draft pick wouldn't be the way to go.
If Beno isn't traded, he is TP's primary backup...agreed. He is a great passer, particularly up the court in transition and in feeding the post. Offensively he is very gifted.
If the Spurs want to get a stop or pressure full court, or are having trouble under pressure themselves, Vaughn will be a nice option.
I'm looking forward to what the team can cook up here to get a young SF. Or maybe their solution is Rich Melzer and we go with what we've got?
@ everyone saying
Man maybe this Melzer guy might have something.
Watch Melzer will become a decent player and then everyone will be back on the FO bandwagon again.
the only guys i would want from this team are donta smith and mahimananamimimi
How many summers did it take for Devin to make it?
If you ask me, Mahinmi looks a lot bigger than Tayshaun Prince. The guy can still put on some weight but he is no twig. I'd like to see him at 10-15 more pounds and that's it.
Does anyone remember the leading rebounder and one of the leading scorers in the RMR last year? He made the All-RMR team? The long SF, 6'10" 215 lb. Britton Johnsen? Lots of people were singing his praises.
He ended up playing for 2 different teams in Europe (Spain and Greece) last year. Sometimes there are lots of factors we don't see.
I remember Johnsen. Our summer league team last year was pretty pitiful, but he had some games where he hit tons of shots, and true to form we got briefly excited about him coming over.
Every player is different. KG is skinny as a rail and still great but in general players need to be around a certain weight for their height and position. He could be thin and still be effective though-the best center I ever saw, Hakeem Olajuwon, (gotta admit it much as I hate it) was never a big muscled up bruiser.
Here is a nice recap of yesterdays games.Link
Great linkthanks.
Somebody start a thread for tonight's game against Seattle.
, you're going to tell me that Noel has added a consistent 3-point game now?![]()
The Sonics had him add it to his game. He taped off the NBA 3-point line at the Fresno St gym for the last two summers and worked on it.
He hit 3-for-4 from 3 yesterday and a 20footer. Today he missed both 3's but hit a 20 foot.
So yes, he has some perimeter game. They are making him into a defensive minded guy who can bang down low, step out and hit a jumper, and play both forward spots.
Sounds familiar to a Spurs need.![]()
