I didn't know he got into press conferences. I have never seen his name on transcripts.Thats awesome though, good for him. Thats quite an accomplishment since Dana is weird about MMA websites.

Do you always post your mmaquick hits here?
It's usually pieced into the appropriate thread around here...most of the same info, just not in one big post...

Yea, getting to sit in on the conf call and ask questions is a pretty big step. I don't know if he gets credentials for the shows or not...most likely does if he's on the conf calls.

You know whats odd about that? Sherdog does not have true press credientials. I know there is a story behind that but I can't remember what it is excatly.

I herad about this 6 months ago or so on Sherdog's site in a story, maybe its changed since then but last I heard that was the case.

That's still the case. Dana never gives a reason when they confront him about it. He just blows them off...

Funny that Sherdog is doing the MMA coverage for ESPN.com, but they don't have credentials...pretty lame on Dana's part...

It saddens me greatly that sherdog is representing MMA media to the masses...ugh.

I wish they had picked tapout.com (great magazine) or mmaweekly.com.

Sherdog gets a bit of a bad rap because of the # of idiots in the forums. I like Josh Gross' work...

MMAWeekly would've been a good choice.

I'm not big on MMA magazines because by the time they come out it's all old news. Tapout is still a good company though, despite the whacky owners...

See I think a lot of the writing is slanted but Josh is certainly good. They could control that forum better if they wanted to.

Yeah I read the magazines you read for stories and interviews since the up to date info is about 3 months behind.

    UFC and boxing ppv dollars?

UFC Prez Dana White is always quick to pull out the “boxing promoters are crooked” line during his frequent discussions about boxing. I would argue that the UFC Czar is just as crooked.

Why did Chuck Liddell and Rampage Jackson only make about $500,000 for their recent UFC 72 showdown. UFC 72 did about 1 million pay per view buys at $40 a pop, Zuffa made 40 million alone in ppv dollars. Not to mention the live gate, over seas viewing rights, and sponsors that ponied up money for this fight. Why do UFC fighters get such a small piece of the pie in a sport that’s supposedly on the upswing? With the rise in of popularity of the UFC why aren’t their fighters paid MUCH more.

I’m not saying there aren’t boxing promoters that don’t short change their fighters, but boxers can make alot more money over a career than a UFC fighter can. Shannon Briggs was paid 1.8 million for his meaningless le defense against Sultan Ibragimov last weekend. GO ahead UFC fans, defend your boy Dana White.Additional Details

Nice try, as demand for the sport builds up so should the fighters salaries. I’m not buying that one. Zuffa is keeping as much as they can of the 100 million they made for UFC 72. They should be ashamed paying two of their top fighters $500,000.

    Best answer

White and the UFC basically want to pay the fighters like a third rate sport but at the same time want to claim to be a legitimate sport. The average UFC fighter doesn’t even make a middle class living it is ridiculous. Even the elite MMA fighters are way behind other professional sports.
White wants to say that Mayweather wouldn’t make it in the UFC and he is right Mayweather wouldn’t step in the UFC ring for the peanuts they pay. Why would he take about 1/20th of his normal pay?

UFC fans are in serious denial about this issues. They will say things like well athletes shouldn’t make that kind of money. Well somebody is making it so why should it all go to the promoters? Or they will say that it takes time but again the revenues MMA is generating is huge so it is a matter of changing the structure not time.

UFC fighters need some kind of union to make a larger share of the pie since it is the fighter that literally rolls the dice with his future health and even his life not the promoters.

The pay is definitely low overall, but Chuck and Rampage shouldn't be the target if somebody is trying to make that point. They'll both end up in the $2M-$3M range if the PPV buys is along the lines of UFC 66 (Chuck and o both got around $3M before it was all said and done).

Not to alibi for the UFC but they more than any other sport re-invest the money back into the growth of MMA so its not like there is piles of money stacked in corners of their head office.

But the fighters certainly should share more of the money.

As far as a union...it will never happen. Not ever.

Methinks several of his friends had his password and it just got spread around to someone who had the balls to log in to do that. The guy seems to be pretty intense and I am sure he has annoyed the out of a lot of people he is close to.

Should certainly put the rest the internet forum created drama that there is a huge rift between the two.

Not sure why exactly but I am completely pulling for Aleks to turn things around and have a healthy career. And hey, Gilbert doesn't have the greatest record but he is no joke. Tough fight for Aleks but if he is what I and many others think he can be he should win this.

I would love to see a Russian MMA organization. I hope this does well and turns into a stable league.

Yea, they're not really on the radar for most. I haven't checked out their last 2 cards, but did DL all the fights for the Jan card to see Kiril's debut (Fedor's star pupil, age 19) and Roman. Fedor was at the event with a bunch of the Red Devil guys, which is probably why the videos hit the internet. Hard to find others...

This was discussed on the SDS today and they basically said that they don't get credentials because they cover all MMA org's, not just the UFC. They said they got credentials for UFC 71, but they were yanked a few days before the event.
