    midway through the season?

Skankees will be nowhere near the playoffs come september

    Great prediction.

    You were right.

But its not how you get in the playoffs. All a team needs is a chance at the playoffs. After that anything can happen.

6 games left and the Yankees trail Boston by 2 games.

Yankees need 1 win or a loss by Detroit to clinch the playoffs.
    Good .

    Whats October without the Yankees??

Yankees lose again!!! ARod has another slam, but it is not enough. Where would NY have been this year w/o ARod?

Boston needs to win 3 of last 5 to clinch.

    Boston already clinched

But yea the division is looking bleak
If the Yankees go 4-0 and Boston goes 1-3 then Yanks will win the division

    But the Tigers are done.

    Yankees are in the playoffs.

    Good .

    Now anything can happen.

How fun does a Boston/New York ALCS sound?

Yanks achieved their goal which is just getting into the playoffs. They NEVER miss the postseason. Homefield is so ing overrated that it literally means as much as the last I just took. Health, mental toughness and execution is all you need to win in any sport. The home crowd isnt going to cover up any of those 3. That being said, can the Yanks end their current Boston curse. Remember they have yet to win a playoff series since the 2004 alcs. I am not shocked to see the yanks playing in october. I knew even after their terrible start they would make it. Should be a fun month for october!

Oh I am not a Yankees fan. Well they arent my #1 team. That would happen to be the Texas Rangers.

Home field advantage is important with the teams that are in the playoffs.

Angels and Indians rely heavily on it and the Yankees are much better at home than on the road. Boston plays better on the road than of any of them.

Sports Illustrated did a take on this issue a few days ago online...

    4. It's important to earn home field advantage.

No, it's not. Home teams in postseason games in the wild-card era are 208-182, a .533 winning percentage -- not too different than if you flipped a coin 390 times. It works out to roughly one extra win per year for all postseason teams combined.

But, hey, you say you really want that last game in your park if the series goes the distance, right? Doesn't matter. First of all, 79 percent of Division and League Championship Series never go the maximum number of games (57 of 72). And in those 15 series that did go the distance, the home teams went 5-10.

Now, having World Series Game 7 in your home park might mean something: Home teams are 8-0 in those ultimate games since 1979. But the site of that game is determined by the outcome of the All-Star Game, not by how many games a team wins during the season.

Bottom line: Playoff-certain teams should forget putting the pedal to the metal. Rest your players, especially your pitchers. The postseason -- no matter what myths you want to believe -- as Billy Beane so well put it, really is a crapshoot.

As I said it depends on the team.

Boston's home games account for only 52% of their wins

    NY 57%

    Cleveland 55%

    LA 58%

So as I said, it matter the least to Boston and the most to LA.

But even with those numbers, they can fall within statistical oddities. If NY was able to win 70-75% of their playoff games at Yankee Stadium (gosh knows they've had enough there) you might have a point, but 58% is just too close to normal.

If you cant have success on the road, then you arent good enough to win it all. Homefield, homecourt etc is something you would like to have but it is not something you HAVE to have in order to win. Health, execution, mental toughness, talent is what you truly need. As long as you have all of that, it doesnt matter what ballpark you are in. If you lack in those areas, homefield wont do a god damn thing to cover it up.

    Very true.

The AL should prob be worried about the bunker mentality the Yankees have.

Do the Yankees have enough pitching? Prob not.

They have the friggen bats though.

IMO right now, its the Indians and Angels gonna fight it out in the ALCS.

The Indian's pitching is almost too much.

As the saying goes offense wins regular season series, pitching wins playoff series. If the Yankees lose this season, could they possibly be heading towards implosion? They havent won a le in 7 years. They keep increasing their payroll yet havent won a playoff series since beating the Twins in 2004. They are under the 2004 curse still. We will see what happens come next week. Should be a fun postseason.

Yea I figured you wern't a Yankees fan.

And I'm nervous about the playoffs.
Every year I get dissappointed and get closer and closer to Blowing my ing Brains out with a shotgun.

And I still think we have the pitching to do it.. PLUS the bats.

We got Wang, Pet te, then Roger?? and maybe Hughes, Moose, or Kennedy will step up in the playoffs.
I still like our chances but every year it seems we fight so hard getting out of our whole that we dig early on that we are flat in the playoffs. I would'nt care if we lost our last 3 games as long as we won the World series.

And it will be an exciting post season.
I'm loving the NL Race right now.
Not a single team has clinched.

Look at those red Hott Rockies.

    Rockies/Yankees World Series.

Damn....Becket lost last night and now Boston must win 2 of last 3 against a very good Twins team, and with Santana pitching one of them....it looks bleak for my Sox.

santana aint pitching in any of the three games. at this point, it really doesnt matter. the sox are guaranteed a playoff spot no matter what happens. winning the AL east is great and all, but it doesnt mean . let the starters rest and start preparing for october

Yea winning the East doesn't mean . Yankees win the East every year and we havn't won a World Series in a while.

If we win the World Series I wont give a about Boston winning the East for the first time in 12 years.

But Congrats on winning the East.
Yankees arn't in last place anymore

    ing Mo Choked tonight.
Hopefully he gets that out of the way before October.

    and @ the Mets.

Would rather have faced Cleveland over LA in 1st round, because of the cross country trip to West coast, but I'll take it. Now we need to win last 2 games to clinch HFA throughout the playoffs.

That is the bright side about not winning the East is that we wont have to face the Angels.

I think we can beat them in a 7 game series But I am not a fan of 5 game series. They seem to short. However I wish the 2004 series vs Boston was a 5 game series

Oh well. If we can get past the first Round I think we can win it all. :elefant:

i wonder if this is going to be like the end of the 2000 season.

nobody here will remember, but on the last weekend of the 2000 season - the Birds swept the Yankees for the first time in years. O's fans were happy that they had ended the season on a high note.

However, that sweep gave them a better record than the rangers, so when the 2001 draft rolled around, Texeira went off the board before their pick. (their consolation prize was Chris Smith - who never played an inning above A ball)
