Can English do anything other than shoot?

While a summer league stint and perhaps a second D League season are possibilities for Brown, his Canadian national team teammate Carl English isn't thinking about taking that rout.
The supremely confident English, who hasn't been in an NBA camp yet and toiled last year in the lightly regarded Croatian league, said he's not about even thinking about the D League.
And a summer league stint? Not a chance.
"I like the (private) workout route because you can prove yourself more," said English. "Summer league, you're not sure what's going to happen, if you're going to sit, if they've got draft picks.
"I'll see how the workouts go and I'll assess but at this point in my career I'm not going to go sit on anybody's bench at summer league. I'm past that, I'm better than that."
English has workouts scheduled with Houston, Dallas and San Antonio in the next 10 days and has already had one with the Indiana Pacers.
Can English do anything other than shoot?
He can be arrogant.
It would take Finley opting out for the Spurs to even consider using all of their MLE on a player, because I sincerely doubt the Spurs use most or all of their MLE money on a kid that won't crack the rotation until a year from now.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Spurs should make a play for this guy in 08 if he just signs a 1-yr qualifying offer and not before then...
SPURRED TO SAN ANTONIO: There are those in the Raptors organization who think they will lose out on Grant Hill not to Detroit or Phoenix but to San Antonio.
The Spurs may be willing to give Hill a starting role – bringing Mike Finley and Manu Ginobili off the bench – and Hill would get a chance to finally play alongside Tim Duncan, seven years after they were supposed to hook up in Orlando.
I know the Raptors are going to put on a full-court press but it might not be enough.

No ing way this happens. If it does:

a player I didn't pay much attention till now is Ersan Ilyasova. mostly because I thought he is already 24, had something mixed up. he is just 20 in fact, so he should have quite some roome for improvement. added to what he already showed, he might be a very good player in 2 or 3 years.
he is restricted, but it will depened a lot on who the Bucks draft, what offers they are willing to match. they have a similar player in Villanueva (and Markota is also somehow similar), so they won't be willing to overpay for Iljasova IMO.
maybe they will make the same mistake they made with Pachulia, when they let him go two years ago. their GM is still the same.
So Brevin knight got released today by the Bobcats.
he would be a much better option than Vaughn imo.
If we could get him for around the same money as it would take to get Vaughn, I say do it
I don't like Knight a backup PG. He isn't a great for as Spurs' backup PG and Spurs need a reliable player to backup Parker : Knight isn't reliable because he is injury prone.

Clippers Waive Ewing, Deline Option On Singleton
June 29, 2007 - 7:58 pm
RealGM Staff Report -
The Los Angeles Clippers today waived guard Daniel Ewing and declined to exercise the third-year contract option on forward James Singleton, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor.
In two years with the Clippers, Ewing averaged 3.4 points, 1.4 assists 13.3 minutes per game. Ewing was the 32nd overall selection by the Clippers in the 2005 NBA Draft.
Singleton, who originally signed with Los Angeles as a free agent prior to the start of the 2005-06 NBA season, averaged 2.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 10.1 minutes per game over his two-year career with the Clippers. In a related matter, the Clippers also declined to tender Singleton a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent as of July 1st. [READ]
I wonder if the Spurs will give Devin Brown and Jannero Pargo a look if they get rid of Beno and Barry?
I'd be down with Devin and Jannero replacing Barry and Beno.
That would be great...
DeShawn Stevenson, I missed any discussion of him on this board, might be a very interesting prospect - I understand we were interested last year when he went to Washington for the vet min.
Good jumpshot -overall EFG% 51, 40.4 3Pt%
Strong wing defender
6'5", 210 (roughly Bowen size)
Expected contract ~$10million/3years
Not sure by whom yet, but it appears Varejao has been offered an above-MLE deal. Would you pay over MLE for him to be a Spur?
Cavs' Varejao gets hefty contract offer
Move puts team in danger of paying luxury tax
By Brian Windhorst
Beacon Journal sportswriter
As expected, the Cavaliers may have a difficult decision upcoming with free agent big man Anderson Varejao.
According to an NBA executive, Varejao has been presented with a hefty contract offer in excess of the league's mid-level exception, which is around $6 million for next season.
Such an offer could be for up to five years and around $40 million or more. Only a handful of teams have cap space to make such an offer, but the one likely after Varejao is the Memphis Grizzlies.
An active player and rebounder, he fits with the up-tempo style of new coach Marc Iavaroni.
Varejao is a restricted free agent, which means the Cavs would have the option to match an offer sheet he could sign with another team.
Offer sheets can't be signed until July 11 and the Cavs would then have a week to match.
Team sources indicate the Cavs would like to keep Varejao but they are wary of overpaying as they head into the luxury tax next season. Which makes the decision complex, especially with Drew Gooden as the team's starter.
Varejao is currently out of the country and is preparing to play for Brazil in the FIBA Americas Championship in August.
Reminds me of Devin Brown.
He had some growing pains early on in this league because he wanted to be a shooter/scorer, so his efficiency and percentage were very low. When he concentrated on defense and let the game come to him, he became a solid player.
I certainly wouldn't mind him on this team for the right price...
It's Memphis.
Posey Willing To Do Sign-And-Trade
July 3, 2007 - 3:00 pm
Miami Herald -
The agent for veteran forward James Posey said Monday his client would agree to be used in a sign-and-trade deal if the Heat was unwilling to offer a new deal to stay in Miami.
Posey has attracted interest from Utah, Dallas, Denver, New Jersey, Cleveland and the Los Angeles Lakers , agent Mark Bartelstein said.
Posey is an unrestricted free agent and free to deal with another team without having to work out an arrangement with the Heat. But Bartelstein said Posey is willing to wait for the best opportunity.
''When it gets to this time of the year, you have to have an open mind about everything,'' Bartelstein said. ``[Posey] would like to go back to Miami, but he's going to make the best decision he can for him.''
Posey, 30, earned $6.3 million last season, his second with the Heat. Most of the teams interested in Posey reportedly plan to use either part or all of their midlevel exception salary of $5.5 million to $6 million a year. Any deal above that amount likely would require a sign-and-trade. [READ]

All or part of the MLE?
For the Spurs, I'd say no thanks.
We've repeatedly brought in international FA's as well - they may as well be considered on this list. Draftexpress is doing what I think is a series, starting with this article: http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=2159
A couple of profiles caught my eye. Can any of our international observers give some of their viewpoint on:
Erik Daniels, 6-8, Power Forward, Biella (Italy)
Marcus Slaughter, 6-8, Power Forward, Pinar Karisyaka (Turkey)
Particularly how do either of them project as SF's (ie. can they shoot, do they move well enough to defend on the perimeter).
Aaron Miles, 6-1, Point Guard, Pau Orthez (France)
I think he has been mentioned a couple of times on this board already as a possible Beno replacement.
Marcus Slaughter's gonna be on the Heat Summer League team.
Wasn't yesterday the day kerr gave Hill and his familyb "the call"? We haven't heard anything about Hill today..Y'all think that's good news for us?
Marcus Slaughter has even signed a two years contract with Miami.
Aaron Miles will play with Wizards summer league.
Erik Daniels will play with Bulls summer league. Let's dream and say that they are interested in him because they will soon S&T Nocioni to SA.
Wizards are talking S&T of James Posey now. It doesn't sound like the Spurs are really pursuing him at all. Hopefully that indicates that Nocioni is close.
Grizzlies have offerd Nocioni 46 million/5 years, it's reported this is a number the Bulls won't match. I fear Nocioni is further away than ever.
