2015 OL Patrick Vahe has plans to visit Austin on July 10th since he missed the June 9th summer camp (HornsNation):

“I missed the camp because I was in Alaska for some church business,” Vahe said. “We were gone for the weekend and came back that Sunday night.”

    “I’m really excited,”
Vahe said. “I’ll finally get to go out there and meet the coaches. I just want to go out there, visit the coaches, see how the campus is and come back and tell my parents.”

“It’s a match to watch when we (Vahe and the Teuhema brothers) compete,”
Vahe said. “These guys are both really good. Especially when I went against Sione, that was good compe ion. We went head-to-head three times.”

“He (Sione Teuhema) was the hardest guy I went against. Let’s just say I won two out of three.”

“Right now I’m going to wait until I visit their campus, and maybe that will support my decision or make me think about it more.”

I think it's Bobby Tatum from Fort Worth (class of '04).

Yeah, it's Tatum. He transferred out in 2005. Here's another pic of him I came across. He's a big-time trainer in Dallas now:

Great news on the recruiting front and something to look forward to. According to 24/7, Texas is basically doing a round-up of the key 2014 and 2015 recruits on the weekend of July 27th and 28th. Sounds like they're aiming to have 25 to 50 guys on campus right before they all have to start two-a-days. The first annual "Sop re Day" received amazing reviews back in March, so hopefully this will be similar and a way to start building momentum in case Texas has a nice season.

24/7 also saying Texas is in the beginning stages of recruiting an in-state DB that is currently committed elsewhere.

It's not ATH Nick Harvey because UT has been on him since he committed to A&M and will continue to recruit him through NSD.

My first guess for the mystery DB is CB Nick Foster of Keller Fossil Ridge who is committed to TCU. If I remember correctly, Texas had plans on offering him in February but ne never made it to Austin for either Junior Day.

Good news on S Arrion Springs. He told 24/7 his visit to Texas today was "crazy" and UT did everything they could to make an impression. He had a meeting with President Powers, ate lunch with the current secondary, toured the campus and had talks with some of the NFL DBs (Ross, T. Brown, etc.) who are currently in town for summer workouts.

Quotes from S Arrion Springs (OrangeBloods):

"The visit went real good," Springs said. "I had lunch with some of the players and just toured the campus."

"Umm, let's just say I got some thinking to do," Springs said. "What was different about this visit was how well I bonded with the players. It was a real family and it definitely made an impression on me."

"It is simple," Springs said. "Be a part of a great tradition or starting tradition. DBU is something not to take lightly. I looked up to a lot of those guys that paved the way. I guess I need to figure out if I want to be a part of carrying on that tradition or if I want to go to Oregon and try to help start a tradition of defensive backs at Oregon."

"I really don't know," Springs said. "They are such opposites. It'll be a great decision either way. I feel like I can't really lose no matter what I do. I just need to take some time, talk to my family and friends and come up with the best decision for me."

Not a UT fan, but how any kid that plays DB and wants to make it to the NFL doesn't choose UT is beyond me.

^Pretty much what we've all been saying for years. Now if they go to somewhere like LSU it's understandable but choosing Oregon over Texas as a DB is laughable.

son. the last few years have been obvious flukes. certainly, they have exposed Mack's coaching abilities as a fraudulent. however, this isn't about coaching, it's about just putting the best players on the field and letting them do "dar thang". Texas will get back to where it belongs soon if we can get some players who can actually play (i don't care about the Rivals.com rankings since they don't mean ).

Texas is #3 in wins all time, I'd say you have a better chance of winning at Texas than just about any other school.

Don't forget, a down year for Texas is still 9 wins. , aggsy win 10 and they think they are gods.

This is true. All said prospect has to do is sign on the dotted line and said prospect's only worry will be whether or not Sally Brown will be serving chocolate chip cookies during half-time.

...and of course she will, so needn't truly worry.

I admit that right now Brown and his family atmosphere has created a environment that resembles a little kids soccer league where everyone gets a trophy for participating, but that is not the University, that is Mack Brown, he won't be here forever. And even with such a environment, he has had success in the past so he has stuck by it.

When you have a environment like this, you need leaders on the field that can rise above it and force the rest of the team to their level, that is what has been missing the last 3 years, leadership on the field. I will say that if Texas can field some leaders you will see a return to the good days, if not, you will see Texas continue to slide and Mack will be gone.

A few quotes from 2015 CB Kris Boyd of Gilmer (24/7):

“I was very impressed when I was there (in Austin) a few weeks ago,” said Boyd. “I loved it there and Texas is my favorite. There are a few others, like Texas A&M, TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor and Alabama that I’m looking at, but Texas is the top school.”

“Texas is known for having a winning program with great coaches and they’re known for their defensive backs,”
he said. “That's what I’m going for – Coach (Duane) Akina is a very good coach. His success with all his players that he has in the NFL really stands out to me.”

“I’ve talked to them (Texas) at least a few times since I left the camp,” said Boyd. “I call Coach Akina a lot. Our last talk was probably four or five days ago. I like talking to him.”

“Recruiting has been going good and I’m getting a feel for how the coaches are,” he said. “That helps my process a lot. I also want to take a visit to Texas A&M and Baylor, because I’m still thinking on my decision."

“I also want to visit Texas again though,”
he added. “I want to see how the city is. I’d like to spend some time with the current players too. I just don’t know when I will go visit yet.”
