How very American of them. S bags! How dare they get the sellouts(albeit talented ones) before us.

    Adjustment to solution #6:

First carpet Bomb all the African Soccer Acdemies of Euopean countries in the name of Freedom, the war on terror and locating hidden WMD...

    Then implement solution #6.

America needs to improve from inside. you need a compe ive league. that means bringing foreign players in the league - but not Beckhams and Ronaldos, that's too big of a gap for MLS to make. They should try with second tier Brazil, Argentina players or some minor African nation players (ala Angola nationals). That won't bring improvement to your national team in 4,8 years but it will help in the long run.

Also you need a good youth system, a pyramid. In Europe if a 16 year old is too good, they will stick him in U-18, if he's still too good they will get him in senior B team and then in senior A team. He will never get in a position where he's the best player on the team for a long time and stagnate.

You do realize that being a mediocre Soccer Nation would be a step up don't you?
you are sadly mistaken. There is only a select core of teams can best the US. US got a tough group combined with lackluster play, questionable reffing and bad coaching decisions. happens. US is slightly above mediocre.

The problem is the Europe hates USA, and you know why.
Thats why you have officiating like that
    Simple
I disagree. That penalty was pure BS, but never attribute to conspiracy what can be blamed on good old-fashioned incompetence.

Besides, FIFA is all about making money, and the US is the hugest untapped/semi-tapped market in the world. They want the U.S. involved in the World Cup, to the point where it will probably be hosted here again in 2018.

And this is why Europe continually lags behind the US economically...

FIFA wants Soccer to be successful in America...that's why they gave us a World Cup to host...that's why they've done everything in their power to assist us in developing Pro Soccer leagues...

Yet their officials undermine that effort...

So basically they undermine their own goals and oppose themselves.

It's never a good idea to let your money get mad...we won't lose sleep over Soccer one way or the other...and if we really want to watch it, we'll just watch our women's team.

    I'm not mistaken...

I've watched the game, and I've watched the other teams in this tournament...

The US is flat out sloooooooow compared to every single other team I have watched, they lack the final gear. Their passing looks like something you might see in a Kid's match...

I'd say our team is the biggest reason everyone else thinks American's don't have a great understanding of Soccer...I'd come to that conclusion watching them play as well.

For all the finanaical and training support we potentially have at our disposal VS what the other countries have...

    We're a ing joke...seriously.

    Denial gets you nowhere.

Let's go find out what the GDP and Population of the team that just whipped our ass is...then tell me we are mediocre.

whottt, I realize your posts are mostly about trying to get a reaction out of the majority of the readers on this thread, but why does soccer/American football have to be an either/or deal? Why do you have to cut one down to prop the other up? The U.S. is so huge and so fragmented media-wise these days (witness the continued lackluster ratings for the NBA finals), that soccer can get its own following without cutting into the popularity of American football. No one's trying to take the Super Bowl away from anybody here.

I get a sense of "If I can't be the best, I'm damned if I'm going to play this sport" from you. The U.S. doesn't have to be the best in the world at everything you know, and it's an impossibility anyway. So why all the disparaging comments?

WOW! been a while since I've read so much bull in one thread alone

All quotes below belong to Whottt

Americans don't get into tricycle racing either...that doesn't mean they don't get it.

There's a reason America is the least ed up country in the World...and 99% of that has to do with the fact that we realize Soccer sucks and the rest of the word is more corrupt...
hmm, I don't even think I need to explain why this is bull . Claiming that football has something to do with countries being corrupt is bull ! and I for one would love for you to base your bull takes on some evidence! something other than ing coincidence.

Seriously, why does everyone always act like Americans don't know about Soccer? We all play it as kids...we were the first country outside of England to play in an international Soccer contest...we had the second or third professional Soccer League in the World...and when Women's Soccer was introduced we dominated it as much as any male team has dominated Men's Soccer(women's team has first tier athletes, men's team has 5th ot 6th). We just found other stuff we like better. The Horse and carriage isn't going to come back in style here...and neither is Soccer.

PS...go read about how our team is being treated over there and the measures they have to take for their safety.
What the does it matter if you played it first or not?? American's don't like it simply because American's love everything fast, neat and easy to understand, simple as that. Its a matter of tastes. at you trying to equate women football with mens! ! for s sake, if I tried to equate WNBA with the NBA you would laugh at my face, but because this is football, a sport you haven't a clue about clearly, there is no poblem with the comparison huh?

Also, the US team needs all that protection because of political reasons that have nothing to do with the sport.

    Soccer=Running
    Ghana = All Black Guys
America = All(American )White Guys except for like 1(who incidentally, is the only guy who looks like he belongs on the field in this game).

I admire the optimism of Johnny Blaze and Manny.

I think I understand Soccer well enough.
oh yes, clearly you have football all firgured out huh? That's why Ivory Coast had such a great time against all white teams like Argentina, Holland (well they have a black guy, but not a very important one).

    Hey ...

The US has won Two World Cups and Two Olympic Gold Medals in Soccer....We are also the defending Champs in Olympic Rugby.

    What's Argentina's tally?
! again with the women football , pathetic. I have nothing against women football, but its kids games compared to men's football.

Whottt's solutions for fixing US Soccer

#3. Threaten to kill the family members of all the players if they do not win.

Works for the rest of the world...
    yet another idiotic joke

IT's alright...but what I find annoying is the constant aire of superiority put off by Soccer Fans as if the game is too sophisticated for the average American to understand...

In fact, it's the least sophisticated game of them all. It's a bunch of dudes, trying to kick a ball.

Now if you want to argue that is it the purest ball related sport you might have a point...but still not one that justifies Soccer being more popular than our other pro sports...

Walking is the purest form of transportation...that doesn't mean it doesn't suck.
You people love baseball! BASEBALL!! and you're telling me football is the least sophisticated sport of all?? give me a ing break!!! You don't know about football!

American's like sports that provide a consistent and constant adrenaline rush, either provided by incredible feats of athleticism and violent compe ion, or else by situations within the course of the game...

It's in this area that Soccer is not compe ive with basketball and football and arguably, even baseball.

And this is by design...American's redesigned Soccer to provide more of these moments, and the result is American Football.

Hockey is similar to Soccer in it's dearth of adrenaline filled moments created by athleticism and situations, but at least Hockey has lots of violence to compensate.
You're telling me you think football has less adrenaline rush than baseball??? ... so stupid its hard to find a decent argument... but I guess that was what you intended. You clearly have no ing clue when it comes to football.

#1. I think it's more like...they go where the money is. Although nothing is keeping them from goung to Europe where there is substantial money in Soccer.

#2. They go where they envision themselves performing in a heroic situation athletically. And it's not Soccer.
pfff... scoring a goal in football is ten times more heroic than anything you could do in basketball, and yet noone is claiming its the better sport. Just because you don't understand what makes football exciting does not mean it isn't. Billions of people love football above any other sport, but because Americans don't like it, all of a sudden it lacks in excitemetn and heroism! Do everyone a favor and don't comment on you clearly don't understand.

And BTW....the record for highest average attendance at any World Cup...was set at the one held in America.

It's not that we don't give the game a chance, I've watched every game, I had an emotional investment, but wasn't as exciting as watching most games fo the NBA Finals featuring two teams I don't even care about...it's just not compe ive with our pro sports int he excitement factor, and as such it attracts low tiered athletes, $$$, and fan support.
Football is not a sport where anyone can watch and be entertained. I disagree with you, I've watched games in which I have nothing invested, and found them incredible matches.

It's never a good idea to let your money get mad...we won't lose sleep over Soccer one way or the other...and if we really want to watch it, we'll just watch our women's team.
damn, again with the officials. You're complaining about officiating in football as a reason for American's disliking it, when officiating in basktball is as bad or even worse! and its ten times easier to officiate in basketball!

Look, you had a couple of bad calls this world cup, I agree, but it has nothing to do with respect or wether FIFA wants the US to "feel welcome" FIFA can't regulate what the refs do in the game, unless you're proposing they benefit American's so they start getting interested...

I think the main reason American's don't like football is because they have never been godo at it. American's are only interested in things they can be good at. Ex: (albeit a lame one) Women's football never got coverage until they started winning championships, before then noone knew, or could give a about women's football. Most American's don't have loyalty towards your squads, its either they do well, and then you support them, or they don't exist plain and simple.

Nice goal by Ronaldo. I think it was wise of Parreira to leave him in, because he's a streaky player and you never know when he'll catch fire. If he gets on a roll, he's going to be dangerous for the rest of the tournament, no matter what his weight is.

I like seeing Ronaldinho playing further up front too.
