It's already happening.

Sorry Eric
Now If you pm me a personal request....Perhaps I will consider your request.![]()
It's the amount of DVD revenues. The producers want to stick with the old scale from 20 yrs ago and the writers want more. And yeah, internet is a huge sticking point. Polls show that up to 70% of all Americans watch some kind of scripted television shows online, whether free on broadcasters' websites or through paysites like iTunes. The writers get no revenue from that at all, and want some whereas the producers are saying it could take up to two years to complete a study to see how profitable online tv will be.
From what I've read, the writers want an $.08 share of the DVD sales, which is $.04 more than what they already get. According to what I've read, the suits are okay with that. They just refuse to give in because of the whole internet revenue thing.
I don't think that it's such a bad thing to let them do a study on the profitability of online shows. They could agree on the DVD issue and put in a provision to revisit the online revenue point in two years. It's really not that difficult. And, if you see it that way, it could be construed as the layoffs being the writers fault.
There is more at stake here. First, they are already selling advertising for their online shows. Every show you watch at NBC, CBS, etc is sponsored by someone or another. They are making money NOW. The writers get none of it.
Oh, and last time they put in a provision to revisit something that they didn't know the profitability of was 20 years ago- DVD sales. You see how the writers have gotten screwed over that for two decades. They don't want that to happen again.
Also, the directors and actors have contracts ending next summer. If the producers give in to the writers, they will have to do the same to the actors and directors, as well. They don't want to do that, thus the elongated battle with the writers.
I wouldn't be surprised if that was the biggest issue. The amount of money they'd be saying goodbye to in order to meet the writers' demands is NOTHING compared to what they would have to part with in order to appease the directors/actors in a similar situation.
I totally understand that, but I also agree that there should be a study to see exactly how much revenue is coming in and how it could be distributed
That's why you shoot for a two year contract. That should give everyone enough time to do whatever research/study they have to make.
This is also why the writers can't get too greedy here. If they do, everyone else loses.
I agree. I think there is a lot of posturing going on because of the bigger peice of the pie at stake next summer, with two guilds going for more instead of just one. What the writers do here will be very important, and that is why you see so many actors supporting them on the picket lines.
It's ing cold in this Starbucks.
Then stop drinking frappuccinos.
I'm only halfway through with mine and I've had it for about half-an-hour.
But I still have about 40 minutes until I have to be at work, but I may just go in early anyway.
Coffee sounds really good right now. Maybe I should make a Starbucks run.
I downloaded some goooooooood music today. I'm happy.
Well I learned the hard way. My husband had one of his employees house sit while we were on vacation a few years back. I came home and found that disgusting thing in my DISHWASHER!!!!!!!!
Oh... that's just wrong.
Did your husband make his employee buy him a new one?
This goes for me as well.
Consider yourself requested!
