I'm of the opinion that he could have just as easily walked away without the body slam, but that's beside the point as I was mostly referring to the comments in this thread. As a few people have suggested that the few punches the little kid threw weren't worth such a violent response (and, to be sure, picking up a kid half your size and slamming him on the ground is a violent act), the response has been to defend his actions with the excuse that he was in the heat of the moment and probably responded blindly, which I find somewhat problematic. I'm not up in arms about big boy's response, overreaction or not, but shouldn't the ability to maintain one's composure in a stressful or antagonistic situation still be the goal?
I would ALMOST agree with you here except for one minor thing...

If anyone here has ever been punched in the face they will understand.

If you have ever experienced being punched in the face-it is very hard to react appropriately to every one's satisfaction.

You're punched, it stings, your eyes water, the adrenaline flows, your rage boils-or fear kicks in, among other body responses...responses that are usually not present in everyday dealings.

If you can still control your reactions and simply walk away-kudos to you, however, half of the witnesses will then be calling you a coward and you will probably be bullied even more. This kid probably had already walked away before and this gave the little bully more confidence to attack him without fear-until he poked the bear just a little too much.

put yourself in the shoes of a teenage boy and with all the hormones and pumping through you, you not only have to deal with that but also some little punching you in the face and trying to show off to some other little s who most likely have abused you too over the course of your adolescent life.

that little , he got what he deserved whether or not it was administered in a more tamed manner.

don't with the bull or you'll get the horns!

I have been far too lazy with this report, but I had made a deal that if 20 more mins passed by and no one had posted this picture, that I would.

If he maintained composure, or tried to just walk away, he would be picked on for the rest of the school year.

Now, maybe instead of the body slam, he could have put the kid in a headlock until he begged for mercy...

Why does it always have to be: retaliate with the same amount of force.
If I got punched, does that mean I should only punch back and wont get to kick him or slam him to the ground?
    - You eliminate the threat as quickly and as effectively as you can.

"Oh this guy is punching me, my instincts are telling me to throat chop him then knock him out with a right hook to the jaw. But wait, what if his throat develops long term problems after this or his head might hit the concrete when I knock him out." - I bet no one thinks like this while they are on a fight.

Bully got lucky the fat kid restrained himself from stomping on his head. Now, that is composure. Knowing when to stop when the fight is over.

Pretty much. Bullies are usually cowards who want no part of an actual fight, but love the idea of attacking people and not having to go on the defensive.

Now, maybe instead of the body slam, he could have put the kid in a headlock until he begged for mercy...
That would just be begging for his other 2 friends to jump in.

Exactly. To add, the body slam sent a message.

CROFL, I can't believe people are still arguing stupid . It's nonsense to think he was out of control. IMO, the big kid's reaction was nearly perfect. It's not like he body slammed his upper body/neck/head area...he slammed him legs first, swung his body on an axis that sent his legs into the pavement first.

He did not do one more thing, and then walked away. Great reaction. Subdued the bag in a way that did not allow for the other potential bullies to jump in, or even want to jump in after seeing the quick yet extremely effective way to put an end to all of this bullying. It was soooo effective, and so immediate...definition of efficient.

A strong punch to the face from the larger kid, who weighs likely twice as much as the bag twerp, could have ed the little one up in so many different ways...eye damage, broken nose, neck + head/brain damage/concussion due to initial strong punch impact and also the bag being sent backwards head-first into the concrete. Thinking conservatively, the punch response could potentially have done the same amount of negative damage as the body slam...and it's with more risk given the situation. Bigger kid is slower by definition, little, lighter bully who was already dancing around with agility could have dodged a few punches. He used his advantage to grapple and pound.

Another option would be to restrain the kid, but that would not send the message, do any damage to the kid, wouldn't likely end the bullying if the bully doesn't get hurt. Also to consider, the other friends could jump in to save him, also a bad option.

Bossman trill OG Casey responded nearly perfectly imo given all the cir stances...his age, persistence of the bullies, multiple bullies around, resolved the conflict immediately. Those of you that don't see this by now...IDK what to say.

I kind of agree with her. She owned up to the fact that her son ed up, at least mostly. She did mention that the other kid was bigger and older, and that was clearly her sons fault for picking on the wrong kid, certainly not his fault for being bigger.

Having said that, it does kind of suck that instead of just having gotten his ass kicked, and being suspended, he has to potentially endure all of the rest of what the internet has brought on him, but that's the day and age we live in and you have to really think thrice before you do something, especially when one of your idiot friends is recording it.

I finally saw the video- while I understand the kid's frustration, his retaliation was not proportional to the taunting. He did not just punch the kid back; he picked him up and body slammed him onto concrete.
You would not be saying this if Casey put a bullet in his own head a couple years from now because the bullying finally got to him.

    Besides, Aussies don't do proportional.

Casey showed great restraint he took a good 4 blows before even reacting. After the body slam he even walked away when he had every right to stomp the punks head in.

The bully got TWO clean shots at Lil Zangief, reacted to stop the aggression, then some other kid steps up Thunderdome style...yet he got in trouble. Policy is policy, but it isn't always the right thing.

Ya know, with all the anti-bullying stuff going on, you'd think kids would stop pulling . This is the future of the world, and they aren't learning from the mistakes of others.

Bullying is all about who is the alpha male... can't exactly stop animal instincts from coming out.

It's more complex than that. People with mental disorders, things like race, sexuality, etc. are all super common motives, wouldn't you say?

Is it any surprise that in the past two pages the two biggest critics of Casey's actions are female (CF and Ploto)? I'm not trolling when I say that it's so typical for girls to be naive when it comes to fighting and social humiliation and how they relate to hormones, especially testosterone and epinephrine. Bottom line, Casey showed GREAT restraint

Are you kidding me-- girls are far worse than boys when it comes to social humiliation.
