DMC, I think you have a big problem understanding what pure scorer means. No way AI belongs anywhere in that list. AI was a pure bricker, nothing more.

Please define for the forum and me what " best pure scorer" means in terms of "in NBA history".

Hopefully then I won't have this big problem understanding it.

I think Barkley put it pretty well when he was describing Melo's game. He said smth like "he scores in the easiest way, scoring comes easy to him".

That's what I would say is a pure scorer, someone who has a very refined offensive game, who can put up 25 without sweating too much. And no, there is no way AI, Vince, Amare should be mentioned in the same breath (well Amare I guess deserves a mention but nothing more) as Dirk when it comes to scoring ability.

First things first: If the term "pure scorer" isn't clearly defined, how can you argue anyone's point on it? You just stated "that's what I would say is a pure scorer..." So am I supposed to get in phase with what each poster would call a pure scorer and try to find some resonance there? Or should I make up my own definition for it and argue from that straw castle?

Can you be a bit more descriptive? Someone who is very loose and scores easily?

You said I don't understand the concept of pure scorer. I asked you to define it. You have not defined it. They all sweat. What is "too much" in terms of sweating?

Is this whole exercise just a tribute to Dirk? If so, just say that and I will agree that Dirk is a great scorer.

AI was once one of the most prolific scorer in the game. Remember, it's about all NBA history, not just those who were in the AS game this year. Many of you don't remember that people like AI, TMac and Vince once were the big scorers. Vince's PPG is still 22 for his career average, even after the last few sub-par years. That shows you how much he scored in his days.

You can argue with the opinions, but not the stats. They are what they are. You decide what they mean.

Barkley was calling Melo the best pure scorer in the game today, not in the history of the game. That was Barkley's opinion, not based on stats.
